REVOLUTIONARY RESULTS - Dragstrip database update notification thread

Everything you said makes sense. I think Jeff is just a very competitive guy (which in the end ben efits our community) and will definitely disclose the secret sauce once his car performs like he thinks it can. I think his mic drop thread was meant to be more foreshadowing than anything…think back to when he made threads for his previous record runs (and awe ran articles in fortitude etc). Pretty much the exact opposite of mic drops lol

But like I said, it should be moot after the fall with lots of new performance mods for the B8 on the table. APR DSG, Magnussen/APR 1740, APR e85, Jeff Jones trapping 121 with 19" wheels and DA +1200.

I’m totally fine if you want a giant asterisk there or even want to remove it. Mainly because I doubt it matters in 3 months ;D

for people who know everything, sure that’s true.

For the other 99.9% of the world, who just check our list, Jones’ GIAC trapped 121.26 and your APR trapped 117.12

I say we let him find out what his new mod is really capable of doing this fall… Assuming he sets another record, it should then be disclosed if he wants the time to stay on here. For now leave it up with an asterisk saying secret mod lol

I respect the guy for pushing the envelope… I can understand him not wanting others to copy his idea before he’s had the chance to fully test it

+1 if it means anything

^^ did we ever get this resolved? I think it’s pretty ridiculous this issue has been pending for so long. I vote to remove the time from the database until we have full disclosure. You post a time here, it’s your obligation to be forthright on your mods.

Jones was away on vacation. He sent me a pm yesterday.

He has created a custom part for his car that he doesn’t want copied. Thus the secrecy. It’s not a power adder. IE not nitrous or something.

So I leave it to the forum to decide.

We can delete his time
We can edit his time to add ‘custom part’
We can leave it as is

If it is adding 20 hp or something like that, it’s significant. Unfortunately GIAC will stand up and take credit for it when it has nothing to do with them. In fact they already have by pointing to their place atop the heap.

Personally I get not wanting everyone to know your secret sauce, however I don’t get wanting privacy…then starting mic drop threads on multiple forums and wanting the fame. And then telling primetime lol.

I reckon he will tell everyone eventually.

If we were guessing I’d guess it was some type of air ducting routing cold air to the airbox . The thing that stands out though is that he ran his larger, heavier wheels. Almost like he had to for the new part to work.

In any event we can have our own open mic and guys can share their opinions here.

So…?

My vote is the time should stand… Jeff ran the number with documentation and I understand why he doesn’t want to disclose. Personally, I think he should but it’s his car and his information to share.

He didn’t beat the top time by enough to even matter honestly. I say let it stand because his ‘secret’ may have done absolutely nothing and the stars just aligned perfectly the day he ran. I agree with Saki though, you don’t advertise your time and make it known, then turn around and attempt some claim of privacy.

I thought he was selling the car anyway?

Well I trust prime. If he knows what the mod is and is comfortable with the time standing, then I revise my vote.

Seriously, jones, just disclose. I don’t see how anyone could claim credit for your new mod - in fact, I think secrecy makes the opposite more likely.

I’ve spoken to him and think the time should stand. He has done quite a bit of custom mods that are hard to quantify in terms of performance. Keep in mind that he ran that time in May/April when the DA was +1200.

I believe he is driving out to e-town in the fall or at the least running the car a bunch once the DA drops. If he is able to significantly best his time like he should in -1500 DA, I figure then he’ll probably disclose all. But at least give him the chance to properly set the bar without everyone copying him and beating him to the punch. So, this debate will probably be moot in a couple months. That’s my .02

Yeah, it’s not like he went 11.2 @ 126 where there’s obviously something very significant. So we’re talking about 2 hundredths better than Auditude’s dad/Tsivas. The DA and the MPH have to be taken into account though.

My concern is that just like when someone runs with no interior and no catback and doesn’t disclose, it makes the rest of their mods look better than they actually are. i.e. people come to our site for facts. They read our list to see what works.

When someone sees that GIAC stage 2 on race gas is posting MPH that is 2 or 3 above the fastest APR cars, they may infer that the trap is because of GIAC’s secret sauce.

If jones were to disclose a little…i.e. ‘it’s an airbox mod’ or ‘it’s a cooling mod’ I’d be 100% for posting the time without digging deeper. When I get nothing though, I’m torn.

At the end of the day, it’s everyone’s list. If we think putting the time there without disclosing the 3rd most significant mod (tune, then pulley then this mystery mod) then we can just modify the entry and leave it.

Let the time stand. Jones is a pretty upstanding member here and I’d imagine he’d share in time. I guess I’d be upset if it was anything significant power-added wise like blower mods or a sneaky pete bottle. But I’d give him the benny of the doubt.

He only trapped .40 mph better than my best MPH… Of course his ET was half second better because of my cars shifting… lol Agree with the rest of what you said…

Thanks for the words guys.

At work and AR is blocked on our proxy.

Will write an information post when I get home in 12 hours. OT Life.

I made sure that GIAC would not use this as advertisement when it happened.

I cannot stop however(as Saki mentioned), the owners who just skim the list and see the MPH discrepancy.

I did not create the part.

It is not something crazy or even that special, I just thought it would help, and it did exactly what I wanted it to, and was the first to think of and do so in conjunction with existing mods.

I have been torture testing it all summer.

I will be running in the fall as I do not believe the new C63 AMG S Coupe I have my eyes on will be released until MY2017.

Once I feel I have run the best I can I will share.

You will not be amazed or blown away by the part, it is neat and falls well within my daily driving 11 sec goals.

I feel realistically the car will, at best, run an 11.3@123-124.

Thanks!

I agree let it stand with “mystery mod” in the comments column. I’m sure one day we’ll find out what it is and the entry can be updated accordingly
