yeha, for a race gas daily driver, you have a better shot at seeing some delta, but it looks like the pump gas ship has sailed.

By your 60’ I’d say your car has another 0.1 or so in ET to give. Basically McLaren or Huracan ETs in a luxury Audi. Shame on Audi that they didn’t bring the RS6. Beautiful car you have.

I think with some more testing with the tire pressures I can further improve on the 60ft. Also I have to work on my shift points to maximize the crazy torque that the engine produces.

Plus I weight 275lbs where a normal person is in the 175lbs range! 100lbs WILL make a difference! LOL! ;D

You keep referencing shift points? Your doing this manually?

Have you just tried to run in sport mode or without trying to shift manually?

the splits all line up. The trap speed also lines up. Pretty much exactly where it should be.

In fact 1.55 x your 1/8 = exactly 10.97

APR claimed a time of 10.6 @ 129 on the 93 file

I am shifting manually with the exception of 1st to 2nd. What I 've seen is that if I let the car auto shift, there is a delay in shifting. I tested it extensively when stock. And it seems it reacts the same with the tune too…

When stock, I could run my best traps when shifting around 6K rpm and with the delay it would make the actual shift around 6.3K rpm.

Now with the tune, the power band is different so I have to do more testing to figure it out…

Correct… I have not seen a customer car matching their run… The closest I 've seen is a 10.8x from 2014 cars and less trap than the 129mph…

I think with better weather and more practice, the car might run better… Plus I am trying another gas station in case I have fuel issues…

Plus the weight guys… it sounds funny but I am convinced that if I was a 175lbs driver the car would go faster! No joke! I am even considering having a Puerto Rican friend of mine to drive the car because he weights less than 150lbs! :o :o :o ;D

Just today APR fixed my mobile access so I can log the car… At least going forward I will have date to review and compare.

Haha using a jockey may be a good idea. A couple of the B8 S4 guys do that.

Here’s an interesting post from Arin@APR. Anyone want to confirm it? He is speaking about jones2012S4. Seems the mystery mod was an overdrive crank pulley that drives the blower harder, especially in tandem with the smaller supercharger pulley. JHM is making one of these, but jones I think said he didn’t have a JHM part. Since the cat is out of the bag, it would be helpful if we could know the actual part on the car so I can correct the list.

It should be noted that jeff had MS109 which is 105 octane…Arin got that wrong.

Another thing Arin got wrong was attempting to discount Jeff’s time because he was ‘spinning the blower faster than everyone else’. How the fuck is that a negative lol. That’s like saying 'sure stage 2 beat stage 1, but it was spinning the blower fast. no shit it was.

The truth is that with jeff’s dual pulley setup, if safe for the 1320, it blows a GIGANTIC hole in the viability of the 1740 kit, and it’s probably $500 rather than $10,000. So you can understand why he/APR are trying to discount his success.

If someone could post up the warranty RPMs the 1320 is good for, and anyone’s experience on other platforms for a safe RPM to spin it, it would be really interesting to see if this is a strategy everyone should be following.

questions

  1. would the existing stage 2 tunes accomodate this dual pulley level of boost, or would they bleed off boost (i.e. they set boost request beyond what stage 2 (one pulley) can do, but is it enough headroom for stage 2+ (the double pulley)? If not you’d need a custom tune. Does jeff have a custom GIAC tune?

  2. are the current stage 2 supercharger pulleys sized where they are because they’re at the limit of their ability to hold the belt without slip, or because this is the limit of safe RPMs for the TVS1320? If the former, the overdrive crank is a great option. If the latter, not so great.

  3. does auditude have the overdrive crank on his dad’s car yet ? If not, when?

  4. conversely, does primetime? Will be interesting to see if primetime does so because it would kill APR to see an APR stage 2+ car within a tenth or two of the stage 3 kit. If APR/Magnuson keeps fucking him around, I reckon we’ll see him go the stage 2+ route :slight_smile:

Nobody (with any common sense) is going to pay $10,000 for 2 mph. If you understand how cars work…and the stage 2+ setup is safe for the 1320, why on earth would you entertain the stage 3 kit? Sure the guy with the green hulk SQ5 will buy it because he’s clueless, but seriously knowing what we know today, and if it checks out as safe for the 1320 who could buy a stage 3 kit now?

We do have an overdrive pulley available. The only other pulleys out there are the GMG pulley, but thats no longer available and some company in Europe (forget the name) but couldn’t find any information on it.

Saki, My thoughts below…

  1. I believe there is enough headroom in the APR stage II tune between requested boost and actual that will allow for some additional boost… IE I think both are doable, can’t comment on GIAC tune or Jeff’s car as I’ll let him do that…

  2. I don’t think it’s a slipping issue and I also don’t think the blower is maxed but has some room left but the blower is getting close® to being maxed out… Not sure running two will “max it out” or shorten it’s life…

  3. No clue but I’d guess no since GMG was the only seller and they have a 6 month wait! LOL Some supply chain eh!

  4. Not yet, but will this weekend :slight_smile: My increase in trap came from tune revisions so this should only add to it… Besides I’m already pretty close to the trap speed of the stage III kit granted in a better DA and much worse ET, but again that was a tranny issue. I’m done waiting on stage III for the fall, the season here is just to short and I enjoy racing every weekend in Oct/Nov weather permitting… So I’ve moved on and once Jake reached out to me that the pulley was ready it was a no brainer…

Weather permitting I’m hitting Thompson Wed. but it’s not looking good… Hoping to confirm all dsg issues are sorted and if not APR will get me an update… Then putting on the crank pulley and will run not this weekend but next… Then I have another change that I’ll discuss as it gets closer to completion, it’s in process now and I think it’s going to be a very very good mod! Time will tell and I’ll share what I’m doing and how it works out…

any input on the stage 2+ (I’m trying to make that stick) and how many RPMs this would be on the blower? I saw somewhere what the max was and what the warrantied max was. But I don’t know the numbers for the following

TVS1320 max RPMs at 7000 engine RPMs on stock pulley
TVS1320 max RPMs at 7000 engine RPMs on APR/GIAC pulley
TVS1320 max RPMs at 7000 engine RPMs on APR/GIAC pulley + JHM overdrive crank pulley (or GMG for that matter, but 6 months seems a little ridiculous)

I’m sure Eaton has some info published for the blower, but I’m not sure if anyone has done the math on these setups. Seems like a job for drob23 or jspazz or someone who has likely already done this.

The other question I have is…what the hell is JHM making an overdrive pulley for? I get that they wanted to replace the shit two piece failing stock pulley…but what do they have up their sleeve? And how would supercharger RPMs on just APR/GIAC pulley vs. just JHM pulley stack up. Similarly? If so, they’re making a tune. And if so, that’s pretty cool…and a well kept secret if I didn’t know lol.

I don’t know the dimensions of the new pulley yet, but I’ll measure it prior to install along with getting the weight compared to stock. I’d like to also compare to GMG at some point… I’d prefer to let Jake/JHM speak to their product but I believe it’s big enough to make comparable boost to the current pulley’s on the market… Below is the various sizes.

Stock: 63.25mm
Unitronic: 58.30mm
APR: 57.75mm
Revo: 57.65mm
GIAC/AWE: 57.55mm
CTS: 57.02

I like your idea of the various setup’s but will need to increase the rpm’s to 7150ish vs 7000 for anyone with dsg tune or manual assuming the shift right at redline… I’ll be honest I haven’t done the math as it would probably give me a headache and I’ll get it wrong so I’ll let spazz or someone else chime in there… I honestly believe there is enough delta between suggested and actual boost that bypass won’t occur but logs will tell for sure… If it does I’ll see what if anything APR is willing to do to help me?

I know Eaton and APR for that matter or conservative so again I think the blower will be OK for how I use the car, IE weekend drives and drag racing… If the blower gernades I’m sure a stage III customer will sell me his or hers cheap ;D

No idea on why JHM did this but I know I’ve been bugging Jake for a while! I would have bought the LW only one if I got the stage III kit and if I end up doing that I’ll end up taking this one off and going to the LW only one or using it instead of the APR pulley… Yes, it would be cool if JHM got more involved and CV made a tune but until that happens I’m doing what I can with APR and they’ve been great to work with me and test things, stage III aside but we don’t need to rehash that here…

I’m in a meeting bored, but can’t look stuff up, but if I remember correctly:

1.) we’re already over the RPM limit for the blower on stage II, stock is 18000 rpm at redline, I believe stage II takes us to almost 20000, and the TVS is rated for “bursts” somewhere around 21000 rpm, I think his came from APR on the stage II release. Will confirm. I’d imagine some load requests will have to be adjusted in any tune if the gains are any more than 2-3% airflow.

2.) I also recall the GIAC requested manifold pressure cutting back at 2150 hPa or so, but this was a couple years ago, and was cutting back a little boost at 6500 and up. APR was getting over 2200 (which was funny because it was not meeting the request, and they made fun of REVO for this).

Really neat that JHM is making the pulley, would be great to have them in the game. I understood a smaller blower pulley would slip, so a larger crank pulley would be required, I have no evidence but maybe could calculate. Given 40+ hp is required to drive the pulley, it looks pretty small already.

Jake how much is the overdrive on that pulley?

I haven’t logged requested as much anymore since I’m not bypassing boost and I’d rather get faster sampling or more knock logs, but I have plenty of logs from v2 with pulley that shows requested in the 2,250+ range while actual is in the 2,100-2,150 range so in my simple mind I have 4-7% upside before I hit the requested max. Remember I’m not running in negative DA’s and these cars need to be tuned/desinged for Colorado to the eastern shore… I don’t believe APR lowered on v3 and I think their changes were more in the timing and correction areas… If I make passes on Wed. I’ll log and report back…

The other concern besides killing the blower is IAT’s and I’ll monitor those closely and I think the tune safeguards will help plus we are heading into the fall… I’d be more worried in the summer if say I was sitting in traffic for an extended period and then romped on the car with high IAT’s and pushing all that boost but again I still think the safeguards would protect the motor… My other mod will help in this area as well…

If this doesn’t work and APR won’t retune the car I’ll just pull it off and go back to stock or the LW one… Got to pay to play and try some things if you want to go fast! LOL LOL
