Completely on same page gentleman… I’m going to try and take some of the parameters away but not sure if it’ll work since I have the HEX-NET VCDS… Use turbo mode “I’ve tried and it won’t work” also I’ll pick up some race gas "the one you’ll suggested and give it a shot… If I can’t make it to the track this or next week I’ll do it on some quiet desolate street in Mexico in the wee hours…lmao. For the record I did this with 100 Sunoco in June/July added a tank full of the good stuff to about 4 gallons of 93 and although logs as usual weren’t great… There was no T pull or B dump… So I’m sure you’re suspicions are correct… Seems V2 tune for B8.5’s is super aggressive for 93 octane but that’s for another thread…
I’ll make a thread discussing my cars performance in the b8 section, there is some good and some bad. But here are my best times (quite a few not so good ones lol)
DA ~ 150 - Milan MI 10/23/2015 from 5-8pm
12.297@116.18 1.946 60’
12.275@115.45 1.914 60’
Temp 18 C
-176 DA first run by the end it was -600’s
MASSIVE TIMING PULL AND BOOST DUMP
FULL weight 4170lbs with me and 3/4 tank of 93 octane
APR STAGE II w/ TRANNY TUNE
APR CPS V2
NO launch control used
My best 60’ times best ET… :-/ ET and MPH leave something to be desired should’ve been much better on both ends lmao…
The et’s are pretty damn good for pump gas stg 2, do you have some logs? We should discuss this in the B8 section, maybe start a thread for your passes or we can talk in one that I’ll make? I ran LC on pretty much every pass which engages a shifting mode called “amax”. It does something weird with slipping the clutches on the 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4 shifts. If you were not using LC then you were probably not in amax mode. I made one pass without LC and trapped 107, the trans was shifting at 5.5k RPM in sport mode with TC fully disabled. This could have been due to the trans temp climbing but I’m not sure. I had a hard time getting a good launch, was just spinning tires. Tried dropping tire pressure but only had access to a gas station pen gauge.
No they just have the 100 octane tune but from what I have seen most people run the ms109 which is 105 octane. The advantage is that if you have some residual pumpgas in the fuel system you will still be running 100+ octane…
Yes I data log with the APR dongle device. It is great…
Boost pressure max I have seen at etown was on the racegas tune at about 2 bar net of absolute pressure on gearshift and dropping at about 1.7-1.8 at redline…
IT’S I remember starting at about 50 degrees before the run and increasing to about 61-62 by the finish line…
One thing I am trying to figure out is the launch… I have seen other cars running 1.6x 60ft, while my best ever was on the 10.61 run at 1.703… the car with maybe a lighter driver can launch harder… I weight 275lbs so the extra 100 lbs or so from a normal person do not help… lol!
I posted the one log I managed to get which was first run then computer was at 2% and I didn’t bother figured it would probably crap out before next run… I’m concerned about timing pull and boost dump… Over 9 degrees of timing being pulled and boost dump I can’t figure out but think it’s like 25% not sure… IAT’s were pretty decent…and Air mass if I’m not mistaken with the roc-euro were 1300’s You can definitely take the logs and post them on you’re thread… You guys have a better handle on this then me… I’m still learning about these procedures and absorbing as much as I can from the gurus…
moogas1, Good runs! You forgot turbo and group by so not much to see… IAT’s are very good… Dumping 25%ish of your boost and pulling a ton of timing… However, it’s like 10 data point and only 3-4 over 6K rpm…
60ft times look good, et’s good but traps off which makes sense given the timing pull and boost dump… Shitty gas maybe?
Gotcha… If you can source it try Sunoco GT260+ I find it to be better at making power over the MS109. Shell URT was the best shame they quit making it…
yeah IAT’s are nice for that boost level… Any idea on total timing?
Hard to say on the launch w/o actual experience… I’d just play around on the street until I had the best launched figured out… No doubt you can get that 60 lower though… Those times are just crazy for the size of the car and how easy it looks doing what it does… lol
Sure… It’s just so little data… Bypass is opening way too much… timing is actually strong between the 6500-7100 data point but it’s pulling 5-10 also on multiple cylincers… Given all this your times are actually pretty damn good really… You’d pick up a ton of trap w/o the bypass and pull… Again, my guess is gas… Can you get a can of race gas and do some logs? That would prove it or rule it out…
Agreed with Ron on the lack of good data. Would be very helpful to log with turbo mode and grouping enabled. You can just do some 5-80 pulls on some on-ramps to get an idea on knock. Then once we confirm the issue (which is pretty much 90% happening given your boost/timing pull), we can start going through the list of potential causes. The first question will always be gas, need to see if the issue is mitigated by removing octane as a culprit. I was told to pick up non-oxygenated race gas, which probably needs to be ordered from VP (MS109 is oxygenated). Next would be spark plugs and coil packs? You should make a thread and I will contribute what I learned through my quest (which wasn’t very rigorous).
