Make sure you break it in by doing WOT 100x in a row to redline, allowing it to engine break in between pulls
Is the car catless right now? If I had a new motor, I would break it in catless and tuned from the get-go. At least catless so it never sees obscene and unnecessary cylinder temps
You have a thing for BenSTI huh? I assume you are quoting his process for breaking in a motor? Your sarcasm could be misleading to those that don’t know you - I’d suggest placing an emoticon following your statements when sarcasm is intended. Or, if you are serious, please put the glue down.
My car has the stock DP’s installed with all cats in tact.
As far as break in, I’m following AOA’s techline’s guidlines. Nothing special - vary the RPM’s, city driving is advantageous for the first 500 miles, limit revs to 5.5K for first 500 miles, gradual WOT in 1st, 2nd & 3rd up to 4K -5K up an incline to ensure the piston travels the full length of the cylinder at load, no bogging, drop oil at 500 miles. 500+ miles, similar process but can increase rev range to 7K. Drop oil at 1,200 miles. 1,200+ miles = process done. My situtation is different from a new car owner process. The break in cycles are done (differently) at the factory prior to customer/dealership delivery.
I happen to agree. Joe is a funny dude but I don’t know if everyone knows when he is kidding vs. serious. Ben seems to have some crazy issue with motors - no idea what he is doing to cause these failures (4 in total I think, 3 subi’s and 1 RS4?) but anyone I would imagine would think twice before following his recommended break in procedures. I assumed Joe was quoting something Ben wrote somewhere because someone else pm’d me those exact instructions and said “Ben gave me this info.”
I have a post/thread cued up just for Ben. I had it written and then didn’t post it. Maybe I should lol.
Do people know that he’s like 18? Not saying that being young is a bad thing, but I think he presents himself as some knowledgeable car wizard when in fact he’s a high school student who plays with lasers and computers all day.
I was kidding. There is no way to add an emoticon using Quick-Reply so I just don’t use them on here. I guess I could memorize the codes for the emoticons.
Sakimano, just from an education standpoint, you should post the Benjamin Tobias Steigerwald FAQ
After every post Joe makes Ben jumps all over him now. Its getting a little old. Joe doesn’t even mention JHM and Ben pulls out the JHM fanboy smack talk every time. Dude is a broken record.
^Yeah I know. He is buddies with NGNG so he’s trained to attack anyone who likes JHM. Anyone ever wonder if NGNG pays him to make up stories about his car pinging?
It’s the big white box at the bottom of the page. Maybe you have to enable it in your settings? Don’t remember
It would be nice to be catless for cylinder temps, but the RS4 design is a bit better on manifolds to dp/cats. But I completely understand why you’re just grateful they were so nice to give you a new motor basically and will do your best to appease them for now.
Also, nice explanation of the AoA engine break-in procedure. It’d be nice to have that information stickied somewhere for reference and understanding.
I don’t think they’re proper friends. They live in the same state, but I’d submit that they just both hate JHM and the JHM fanboys (a.k.a. 90% of the 4.2 forum folks lol).
ngng is probably around 30. ben is like senior-in-high-school aged. There’s a bit of a NAMBLA thing there if they’re hanging out.
