Yes. A4, fully loaded (Nav/Satellite/Bluetooth/ etc, 6 SPD ;D, this is actually the same car I put the first few miles on it when it was delivered to Audi. I got it with 19 or 29 miles a few months ago and put almost 2,500 miles on it last time. Now it has roughly 4,5XX on it. Still smells new.
lol - I’ve thought about that idea before…lol.
I really think quite a few RS4 owners feel the same way. Once they have these available I think they will sell a bunch.
Teaser update, 2/29/12…
The car is finally back in my posession - full update with some pics to follow this evening.
Cliff’s Notes: I have a new engine. ;D ;D ;D
wow. crazy!
B7 RS4 owner for life now.
Cool!! Waiting on the details…
Wow. Another one?
I think we might have BenSTi #2 here. Just kidding.
lol. F U. ;D
The history is in this thread and I don’t want to write a boring wall of text and bore everyone to tears.
After many parts being replaced under extended warranty my issue was still present over the course of the past year.
Dealer worked with me the whole time trying to make things right.
Short list of parts (cam follower covers, vc’s, I/M, HEADS, entire PCV system) = part of the problem solved. The valve guides were slightly worn.
Most recent tear down revealed some piston skirts were out of spec (not sure how many or which ones) and EVERY connecting rod bearing was scored. Interesting, not sure what the cause was. Everyone’s guess is the original owner didn’t maintain the car as one should. All records I have show that the car did go in at every service interval on time or early though – weird.
End result, a new short block was ordered. I essentially have a brand new engine top to bottom and I’m relieved to be finished with this problem.
The pictures I have aren’t that great and they don’t show anything related to the problem. If you guys want a few pics of the heads removed, the old short block on the floor and maybe the back side of one cam follower cover I can post them up.
Ask any questions, I’ll answer them the best I can.
Thanks for all the help along the way, it was a very frustrating journey.
I wonder if the dealer would allow for some aftermarket internals to be installed? Drop the compression, advance the cams and slap a blower on it running 15 lbs of boost, you’d have on seriously bad ass RS4 that can run hard on the street and strip ;D
Custom Mahle 8:1 pistons, Lunati Billet rods and bolt it all down with ARP studs
I always wanted to do something like that to my RS4 but cost is was high, you’d save quite a bit since the motor is out ;D
awesome Paul. congrats on getting the car back.
I was beginning to think the car was a myth like bigfoot.
I am tired of seeing Tony’s car all the time. He just got his back today also. It’s gonna take him forever to break his clutch in.
now get some miles on it!!!
Richi was kind enough to loan me his Vbox Pbox whatever box this thing is called.
Awesome that is great news…
Thanks guys. Will be enjoying the car in it’s current state (semi stock) for a while. Need to make sure all is well and I don’t want to piss of my dealership since they went above and beyond on this last repair…the warranty company only covered the labor - guess who footed the bill for all the parts including the short block :o
They really came through for me, the warranty company didn’t want to cover squat because for 18 days sometime early in the year I had catless dp’s installed (so ridiculous but it’s their right to deny based on ANY modification) So out of respect for my dealer’s wishes, I’ll keep the car as is until the extended warranty is up.
Make sure you break it in by doing WOT 100x in a row to redline, allowing it to engine break in between pulls
Is the car catless right now? If I had a new motor, I would break it in catless and tuned from the get-go. At least catless so it never sees obscene and unnecessary cylinder temps
You have a thing for BenSTI huh? I assume you are quoting his process for breaking in a motor? Your sarcasm could be misleading to those that don’t know you - I’d suggest placing an emoticon following your statements when sarcasm is intended. Or, if you are serious, please put the glue down.
My car has the stock DP’s installed with all cats in tact.
As far as break in, I’m following AOA’s techline’s guidlines. Nothing special - vary the RPM’s, city driving is advantageous for the first 500 miles, limit revs to 5.5K for first 500 miles, gradual WOT in 1st, 2nd & 3rd up to 4K -5K up an incline to ensure the piston travels the full length of the cylinder at load, no bogging, drop oil at 500 miles. 500+ miles, similar process but can increase rev range to 7K. Drop oil at 1,200 miles. 1,200+ miles = process done. My situtation is different from a new car owner process. The break in cycles are done (differently) at the factory prior to customer/dealership delivery.
I think Ben’s method of breaking in his motor is so insane it needs no emoticon.
I happen to agree. Joe is a funny dude but I don’t know if everyone knows when he is kidding vs. serious. Ben seems to have some crazy issue with motors - no idea what he is doing to cause these failures (4 in total I think, 3 subi’s and 1 RS4?) but anyone I would imagine would think twice before following his recommended break in procedures. I assumed Joe was quoting something Ben wrote somewhere because someone else pm’d me those exact instructions and said “Ben gave me this info.”
I have a post/thread cued up just for Ben. I had it written and then didn’t post it. Maybe I should lol.
Do people know that he’s like 18? Not saying that being young is a bad thing, but I think he presents himself as some knowledgeable car wizard when in fact he’s a high school student who plays with lasers and computers all day.
I was kidding. There is no way to add an emoticon using Quick-Reply so I just don’t use them on here. I guess I could memorize the codes for the emoticons.
Sakimano, just from an education standpoint, you should post the Benjamin Tobias Steigerwald FAQ
How do you “quick reply?” I only see “reply.”
