Yeah, it’s great for the platform and Audi brand in general to see the competition continue to improve… Forces them all to invest more and be on their game, which is good for us customers…
If you run your car in a trim that you would not be able to sell the car in. That is what I do think needs to be given a mark.
If you went to sell your car and a buyer shows up and you have no seats in the car. The buyer is going to be outraged. This isn’t a full car its missing crutual parts that make it a full car.
I agree with kyuss and chris. I think moving parts takes away from the truth factor. It should be for bragging rights not for a list that is supposed to reflect performance parts and there results.
APR TVS1740 kit on 93 tune ran 11.156 @123.11. JHM’s ran 11.12 @ 125mph. I know there are some other variables like fueling, exhaust, LW rotors, intake spacers, etc. that differ between the 2 kits. JHM introduced their kit at $11k and APR is rumored to list theirs at the same as their old TVS1340 at around $14-15k. Which one would you pick if both are running similar numbers but the pricing differed by $3-4K hypothetically speaking?
Something also to not forget. The 11.156 run was done with the stock catback, and I presume stock rotors, no intake spacers, heavier wheels than the jhm car/ run etc.
The catback alone takes off some of the hp in the higher Rpm range. If the car would have ran with the same exhaust setup, lw parts, solids mounts, intake adjustments, I’m sure a better time would have been made then the jhm run. But with the fuel upgrades and higher boost I who knows.
Impressive none the less, not to forget when the times get quick it is exponential more difficult to get better results.
Congrats to Arin and APR! Awesome to see progress like this
The TSW nurburgrings are very light. I think they’re around 21 lbs. So the APR wheels and the JHM wheels were pretty similar.
The APR car definitely has a lot more in it, but you’re missing something crucial…the JHM car ran on stock fuelling, and was held back by the fuelling. Think abotu that for a second. APR has upgraded HPFP, and JHM is running the stock fuel system and is tuning the car to be held back, and they STILL ran 11.12 @ 125 (and trapped 126.something as well on 93). That’s HUGE.
Further the JHM car ran in +650 feet of density altitude I believe (going by memory) and the APR ran in 0 or -DA.
So while the JHM car certainly had a better modlist with respect to LW rotors and catback, the APR car had it’s advantages too.
Bottom line? Both kicked the shit out of that asshole JAson from AMD
Way to go APR!
What I can’t wait to see is the JHM car on upgraded fuel pumps. Their first stage 2 customer took it to the track once with upgraded fuelling but an axle gave way in the first 60 feet of the first pass unfortunately. To compound things, the fucking non-Audi winter mat slid forward on the launch and jammed the accelerator WOT for a second.
Now I have been saying this for a while so don’t say it hasn’t been said. I seriously think if your on the 1/4 mile board and you stripped out interior parts there needs to be an * next to the time. If you have slicks I think that needs to be there as well. adding it at the end of the list in others just isn’t enough…
who here hasn’t been waiting to see the v8s just crush the winny kids with the B5s. This record crushes everyother record…its a big win for all of us. I dont thgik any of us believe apr didn’t go 10s just with stripped out interior. They should have other 10s times. I just can’t stress enough I think we need to add a * next to any times wehre interiror parts were removed. I think it should be the same with slicks.
I think the weight removal of interior is just as impornant to note as race gas.
If we are the standard for what everyone will see in the 1/4 mile as I think AR has the best collection of Audi 1/4 miles I think that needs to be added.
Removing 40 lbs of rotating unsprung weight is far more important than removing the 100 lbs of seats. So does a car with LW rotors and wheels get an asterisk? No, it gets noted in the notes section/miscellaneous mods.
The drag radials are another story, and are a huge game changer, but again, where do you draw the line? Just at wrinkle wall hoosiers? Or any slick? How about Michelin Cup, a semi slick? Or snow tires which are a soft compound some people swear by?
I think at the end of the day if the car is materially different to a ‘normal’ version of that car, it is noted in the list already. Hell some people would say pulling the seats is less of a big deal than bolting giant turbos to a small V6 engine. Which B5 S4 is more materially different to a stock/normal B5…one with no backseat and passenger seat (saving 120 lbs) or one with gigantic GT turbos, forged internals, upgraded fuelling, tuning, exhaust etc? You want to asterisk the car that dropped 120 lbs of sprung weight, and NOT the one that completely blew up everything Audi put under the hood except the iron block?
For me, the list works well as is, but tihs forum is about all of us, so everyone chime in. The true ‘asterisk’ scenario is running a time at a non-certified track…and with our rules, the time won’t even make the list. But if you take your RS4 with your 4.2 FSI BNS engine out to a certified track and run XX.X @ XXX.XX, it’s going on the list with notes depicting, thoroughly, what you did to make that happen.
The list isn’t a contest with winners (but there are some losers lol). The list is a source of information and comparison.
this is the only platform of cars that debates weight removal and slicks. Any other car, forget JDM but vw, bmw american have no debate on this. You show up with a gutted car, slicks, etc run a good time you get a pat on the back and thats that. I really do not feel it is a big deal. Everyone has an equal opportunity to do the same.
And trust me, driving a completely gutted car is not the easiest thing to do mentally and physically. Im sure you know that as well.
I think this is a great disscuession. I say we find and draw the line. The line is anything that makes you go…ohhhh well that isn’t really a represintive of a true time…you had to take out your seats… At no point is someone going to say… ohhh wait let me pull over and pull out my seats…
Changeing turbos… you make a great point… we have a spot on the list for just turbos and blower sizes.
Rototational weight can be looked at as impornant… still that is listed crank pulley lightweight rotors flywheel rims… All these are accepted and normal things that you add to the car and drive the car 100% of the time on… Removal of parts and driving the car with them removed is not 100% of how the car is used and the removval of those parts has a short term intended goal. Its not trully reflective of how that will actually perform.
I say the line works like this. You can add race gas… Its not really street represintive but people do and can eaisly add race gas and like primetime use it often… You can add or swap parts… thats still the car in its current form… You added different parts… Your removeing interior parts… thats not adding or swapping anything… if someone had lightweight race seats I say that is something to note but thats how the car is… unless they just put in race seats for the track evernt…
Adding or swaping seems to already have a spot… removal of parts that is different and should be taken as a more harsh strike.
I don’t know. They used Jason wheels from his b6 s4. Check the video? Can’t remember what they were. Around 41-42 lbs per corner I believe with 245.40.18tires
