Not even close to true. Domestic guys make a big deal about this. The team GM group wont even include you on the list if you strip out parts of the car. Your removing weight that you would never ever ever do in real life ever… how is that even remotly represitive of the car…
let me say this. we are and can set the standard here. I think we should do just that with the *
collecting the times and gathering the data is impornant. We have the biggest audi 1/4 mile list I have seen. I think the * can help keep things more honest and start a trend where people think twice about stripping there cars out temperairly to get a record. I have been saying thsi forever. I don’t think that should be rewarded… The * is a black mark…
This is actually not quite the truth. Every platform I have ever been around this has been a huge debate. Weight removal and slicks is always the argument, “yup, so and so ran such and such, but they were on slicks with a gutted interior so it doesn’t really count.” For me personally, I think it is great that some folks want to put the time and energy to removing literally everything from their car, ensuring they have the most minut amount of fuel as possible (have seen people run out of fuel halfway down the track because of this) slap a set of slicks on and go all out for those record passes, but I am so much more impressed by the folks that show up and run 'em the way they drive 'em.
If you run your car in a trim that you would not be able to sell the car in. That is what I do think needs to be given a mark.
If you went to sell your car and a buyer shows up and you have no seats in the car. The buyer is going to be outraged. This isn’t a full car its missing crutual parts that make it a full car.
I agree with kyuss and chris. I think moving parts takes away from the truth factor. It should be for bragging rights not for a list that is supposed to reflect performance parts and there results.
APR TVS1740 kit on 93 tune ran 11.156 @123.11. JHM’s ran 11.12 @ 125mph. I know there are some other variables like fueling, exhaust, LW rotors, intake spacers, etc. that differ between the 2 kits. JHM introduced their kit at $11k and APR is rumored to list theirs at the same as their old TVS1340 at around $14-15k. Which one would you pick if both are running similar numbers but the pricing differed by $3-4K hypothetically speaking?
Something also to not forget. The 11.156 run was done with the stock catback, and I presume stock rotors, no intake spacers, heavier wheels than the jhm car/ run etc.
The catback alone takes off some of the hp in the higher Rpm range. If the car would have ran with the same exhaust setup, lw parts, solids mounts, intake adjustments, I’m sure a better time would have been made then the jhm run. But with the fuel upgrades and higher boost I who knows.
Impressive none the less, not to forget when the times get quick it is exponential more difficult to get better results.
Congrats to Arin and APR! Awesome to see progress like this
The TSW nurburgrings are very light. I think they’re around 21 lbs. So the APR wheels and the JHM wheels were pretty similar.
The APR car definitely has a lot more in it, but you’re missing something crucial…the JHM car ran on stock fuelling, and was held back by the fuelling. Think abotu that for a second. APR has upgraded HPFP, and JHM is running the stock fuel system and is tuning the car to be held back, and they STILL ran 11.12 @ 125 (and trapped 126.something as well on 93). That’s HUGE.
Further the JHM car ran in +650 feet of density altitude I believe (going by memory) and the APR ran in 0 or -DA.
So while the JHM car certainly had a better modlist with respect to LW rotors and catback, the APR car had it’s advantages too.
Bottom line? Both kicked the shit out of that asshole JAson from AMD
Way to go APR!
What I can’t wait to see is the JHM car on upgraded fuel pumps. Their first stage 2 customer took it to the track once with upgraded fuelling but an axle gave way in the first 60 feet of the first pass unfortunately. To compound things, the fucking non-Audi winter mat slid forward on the launch and jammed the accelerator WOT for a second.
I don’t know. They used Jason wheels from his b6 s4. Check the video? Can’t remember what they were. Around 41-42 lbs per corner I believe with 245.40.18tires
