RS5 headers option already?

Don’t know how effective they’ll be, and based on the jagged catback bends and what looks like 2.50" pipe, not holding my breath… But pretty interesting nonetheless. Just don’t ask the price.

[QUOTE=Felix_Kline;3744052]KLINE INCONEL project.

http://s9.postimage.org/dy08rkohn/poza5a.jpg

One of our development projects on an AUDI RS5 V8.

We designed :

  • complete DE CAT manifolds
  • manifold back system valvetronic

The system, made from F1 grade INCONEL 625, is very lightweight and high strength,

The sound is very much GT race car on Dynamic mode. But when you switch the car to comfort mode it becomes OEM quiet, the diffrence is stunning. The car can be driven incognito on comfort mode but transform into a race car just with the push of a button !

Manifolds are a mere 2.8 kg each.

Some pics and a video to enjoy.

the pricetag is gonna hurt, material alone is going to be big with the inconel

Catback is…

$9,000!!!

did they make the catback from inconel?

I think so. 625

says each header weighs 6 lbs. That seems light. Yours were what…around 12-13 each? Flanges were heavy. Going by memory and feel of picking them up. I was surprised how small the were in person. They seem much larger in photos etc.

There will still be some good gains IF the stock manifolds are a huge restriction. Leaving price out of the discussion they look like a solid product. Equal length too from what I can tell.

these headers probably have a fairly thin wall, the inconel can deal with heat much better so they can use less of it

just seems like a waste to me, 321 stainless holds up fine for manifolds and an inconel catback is excessive. Maybe for a turbo manifold, but not for N/A headers.

the inconel parts made at the plant I work at are far more impressive anyways lol

I think it’s just typical European exhaust stuff…absurdly priced and ‘exclusive’.

Appearls to many.

Anyone know what the RS5 stock exhaust setup is? Let’s check my thread on RS246…

lol 2 months since the last post, none of which was on topic

Whats with the loop of henle in the most medial section of the headers? That must cause a bunch of restriction

medial…loop of henle…how medical student.

It’s to keep each line the same length. It’s closest to the rear of the car so gases exiting that port and line will have the shortest distance to travel before they collect. The other lines from the farther forward ports are much longer naturally…so the shortest ones take a circuitous route to keep lengths equal. The ones in the middle, as you can see, take the outside route while the longest take the round the outside route. All to keep equality in length (or to preserve gas pulse efficiency). I believe if you mess up the lengths, you lose some of the flow efficiency as the pulses of spent gases from each cylinder firing are slamming into each other rather than moving along their paths unhindered.

Imagine a fire alarm where everyone panics and bolts for a single small door…mayhem ensues as everyone clogs it up. Much better for them to move out one at a time in a nice co-ordinated exit.

beem will correct my many errors

I will say that the Euro headers (like these or the SuperSprint B7 RS4 ones) always seem to be very jagged and squarish looking.

Here’s the supersprint…doesn’t look like they paid much attention to the lengths.

Here’s JHM’s B6/7 headers in contrast. Smooooothe.

Even the flow challenged space of the B8 S5 bay still looks quite smoothe despite require 90 degree bends…

Sorry, its the best way I know of explaining what area I was talking about :). Appreciate the education, and the physics of the flow and resonance makes complete sense now.

B8 S5 headers!?? tested with reported gains??

[quote=“bigserve134,post:12,topic:4055”]
No idea. Jhm had made some

From the look at my friends brand new RS5 tonight it appears that the RS5 does not, I repeat DOES NOT have headers from the factory. Instead it looks like the RS5 has shitty exhaust manifolds and catalytic converters/downpipes like the rest of the B8s. Now I am really impressed in a way and look forward to the future monsters that these cars can be.

Sadly it is cold as shit out here at 20 degrees F so I couldn’t get a good picture but when he reaches 1K miles I am going to change fluids and it will be a great time to look at the entire system.

Really… wow, so they might be leaving more on the table in terms of performance than was previously thought… Cool!!!

edit no sarcasm, I’ve always been excited about this car since I heard about it.

Makes no sense why Audi would engineer with exhaust manifold over headers on an RS… ??? ??? ???

They were able to get 450hp out of them, don’t think they were like “oh shit we forgot to make them headers instead of an exhaust manifold.” Whatever the case, it means there is more room to grow with the platform, which is awesome.

Definitely, one simple change and instead of being equivalent to the E92 M3 they would have surpassed it.

I’m sure there are lots of little things like that to try to keep the costs down.

are the B8 manifolds confirmed shitty? Some are not bad. The B6/7 S4 ones for example were crap. The B5 S4 ones however were pretty good.+

If the B8 ones are crap…and the B8 RS5 has them (as well as the RS4 I’m sure) it will be interesting to see if someone makes headers that give it some good gains. We may be seeing 11 second RS4/5 just from exhaust mods.

Someone said Road and Track tested an RS5 and ran a 12.2 second quarter mile stock. Is that accurate?
