RS5 headers option already?

I think that’s evident on the B8 platform. They did a lot of work to bring the pricing down to be more competitive. The B7 RS4 was quite a bit more expensive than it’s competitors (vs. E92 M3, C63), as was the B7 S4 (vs E46 M3). Tough to justify if you’re not blowing them out of the water.

The B8 cars have cut lots of little corners out to save money, and Audi have priced them very competitively as a result. This goes for the V6 3.0T cars for sure and the B8 RS4/5 which are priced pretty much right on the number with their competitors, when you factor in similar equipment. Not that you’d really notice most of the cut corners unless you were looking.

That is the only reason I could to after seeing the car.

From what I have seen with doing the secondary air port cleaning on a 3.2 V6 and replacing clutches on 3.0Ts the manifolds look very similar to the older B6/7 S4s. The look that I got at my friends car was from the top of the engine and you can easily see the huge catalytic converters right next to the engine at a terrible angle just like the rest of the B8s.

I remember backing up euroswager in a thread on Audizine a while ago with a link to that faster time for the RS5 but I can’t find it now. Most of the magazines are quoting around 12.5/12.6 right now though.

This is completely off topic, but goes towards Saki’s talk about the b8s cutting corners. One of the things that I find most annoying about the b8 s4 and the newer Audi model lines are the fucking trim levels. There are about a million combinations of an S4. The b6/b7 s4s were pretty much all loaded give or take a few options, but the later B8 can have so many different variations based on the trim level.

For instance my wife’s Q5 is a premium plus sline, but honestly the prestige only offered features that weren’t even that great. I had to research a million and one options to figure out where to start…

Back to the topic, it’s funny jimmy brought that up because I just thought about that thread. I have 100% faith that an RS5 will be in the 11s NA…and I think that is even possible with just exhaust modification like Saki mentioned. I also remember 12.2, but not sure where we found it.

Agreed. Im sure there would be more options out there for headers if the install wasnt so ridiculous.

That is really weird…photo of an S5 below.

As for the RS5, I’ve seen 12.4 stock a couple of places, including the only two customer runs on dragstrips (APR’s stock runs + thte Australian guy). I just hadn’t seen a road test in Road and Track.

here’s some good photos comparing RS4/S5/RS5

[QUOTE=r8dream]s5 headers are going to be difficult due to small space and mlb platform(s5 underside pic).
look at oem s5 manifold and inside of s4 4.2 manifold cut open.
s5 oem upper cat pic. on engine sideview.
supersprint’s expensive downpipes move the original position of the cats farther down the pipe(better for heat loss)and get rid of the first resonator.
although they aren’t so popular due to engine or gearbox removal for fitting.
supersprint is the first to have rs4 4.2 headers in production. rs4 oem engine sideview pic.
gmg is the first to have b8(mlb platform) s4 3.0 headers in production.
rs5 cutaway shows similar exhaust layout to s5, with upper cat position. rs5 engine pic.
and if you were completley insane, the best sounding v8 headers are the 180 degree crossover ones like on the gt40’s(bundle of snakes).

There is a lot of room behind the engine and on top of the transmission with the service opening so you could make the bundle of snakes headers but good luck.

They supersprint headers done F ALL on my B7 rs4

You had the ss headers on your car? I didn’t realize that. Tell us what you experienced with them.

Interesting you thought they did F ALL lol. Did you have before and after headers dynos? Or was it more of a value for money thing?

And then a question to those familiar with the JHM B6/7 S4 headers - how do the stock RS4 headers compare to those longtube headers?

mrc tested them I believe and found them not to work well.

Not surprisingly as we mentioned by just looking at them. Oddly shaped, not equal length. Poorly thought out really.

Wish beemercer would comment.

What kind of gains did the JHM b6/7 S4 ones yield?

Hard to say. They were mixed with tune etc.

Stock car typically 255-265 whp
Piggies and jhm tune and catback typically 280 whp 270 wtq
Cat less 2.5 + catback and jhm tune typically 285-290 whp 280 wtq
Add jhm manifold 295-300 whp, 280-285wtq
Add jhm headers 310-320 whp, 310-315 wtq

These are vague ranges. Your mileage may vary. Basically as I recall it though stock vs tune plus headers equals +40 whp and +60 wtq

thanks

Makes sense, more flow for more go!

My limited understanding is that headers got you firmly into the 12’s. Before I bought my car, I exchanged a couple of emails with JHM about the headers. They said headers and other add ons could get the torque of the S4 up to RS4 fast. Lo and behold stock RS4 runs 12.75, JHM S4 runs 12.7x.

S4 and rs4 torque aren’t that far apart to begin with really. Heck piggies probably get you to rs4 torque. Although the torque effect of the rs4 final drive definitely gives it an edge.

Nice, have they produced RS4 headers? I would assume since there is even a S5 prototype

Didnt bother as the rs4 comes with headers from the factory.

And RS5 doesnt ???

correct. B8 cost savings program.

I’m talking B7 RS4 has headers. B8 RS4/RS5 does not.
