S4, A6 Dragstrip Day

Ynnekdude and I hit the track yesterday. Lots of fun, and we were able to make about 12 passes in total. Here’s the mod list:

Ynnekdude - APR Stage II V2, Stasis exhaust, custom intake, race gas (100) w/ approx. 1/2 tank, winter tires (anything else?)

Clochner - APR Stage II V2, Milltek non-res, APR full intake, pump gas (93) with approx. 1/4 tank, 18" winter tires

DA was -656.4

I believe Ynnekdude’s best was 12.94 @ 108.90, and my best was 12.59 @ 109.74. Here are vids and slips for my three best passes (Ynnekdude may have vids of his passes as well):

(1) 12.59 @ 109.74

Overall, I was disappointed. I went in hoping to beat my personal best of 12.45 @ 112, but left without even coming close.

I’d really like anyone’s input as to whether my winter tires were holding me back. Now that I’ve had a chance to watch the videos a few times, you can definitely hear the tire spin. I never had this issue when running my summers. So I think any gains I may have had with reduced weight were negated by the loss of traction.

It’s also interesting to note that my boost gauge never goes above 15psi. Shouldn’t I be around 17psi with my mods? If this is an issue, then perhaps something went wrong when I re-flashed a few weeks ago to V2?

I guess my technique could also be off-mark, but I’m not sure how I could have launched any differently.

Anyway, it was still a great time, and I intend on heading back with my summers to see if I can do better. I’ll let Ynnekdude speak to his times. It was pretty cool running against such a unique A6.

Few pics of our cars . . .

I found this guy’s license plate interesting, given that he was running about 15 second times . . .

Good to see you guys get out there, and we now have our first a6, and it’s in the twelves.

What size were your winters vs your summers? A winter soft compound can help to an extent but if you’re on 225 vs 255 it may mean you lose so much patch that it doesn’t matter how grippy they are.
P. S. The mitsu is indeed funny. Isn’t he missing half of his exhaust? Or is that just an upgraded rear valence and he’s making payments on the other farther an on layaway?

I was actually on the APR 93 tune but with 100 octane in the tank. There is no program switching for the A6 unfortunately. Wheels are 18" VMRs and they’re hiding some lighter Stoptechs underneath. Otherwise, spot on.

While I was shooting for 12.7x, I’m relatively happy with 12.9. A new intake that runs down into the fender area and feeds from the fog grill will be installed by my next track visit. Hopefully that will gain me a tenth or two. Maybe I’ll have program switching then as well…?

In regards to our times, I have a feeling that sitting around in a line with heat building up under the hood was not conducive to fast times. I believe I had my second best run and you had your 12.5 run after we let our cars cool down with the hoods open around noon. Where do I find DA? I used the calculator on drag times and it gave me -46ft at the time of our first runs.

(Plate is erased ;))

Here’s my compilation of footage. Unfortunately missed a few runs because the camera turned off after idling too long. The last clip shows a transmission glitch during the 1-2 shift. ESP was off at the time so I don’t know what the cause is. It has happened before and I’m starting to think it might have something to do with brake torquing.

Was great meeting you yesterday. Looking forward to doing it again in the near future.

12.94 doesn’t count as 12’s!!???

You have to get 12.00 to be in the 12’s…

Jk lol what thread was that on QW?

Ah sorry about that. I meant that you had the 93 file, just with 100 fuel. And you make a good point about the time we had to wait in between passes. My best run was indeed after the cool-down period.

Re DA, I used 50 degrees (as an average for the day), pressure of 30.05 in., and 30 degrees for dew point. I could be totally wrong on this, though. Here’s the weather data I used:

http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KENW/2013/3/30/DailyHistory.html?req_city=Kenosha&req_state=WI&req_statename=Wisconsin

And the DA calculator:

Great video btw! Your car sounds amazing from inside the cabin. I love the supercharger whine.

I have the Dunlop Winter Sport 3D - so 245 v. 255 (summers).

Why not shut the car down in line and restart to move up? Better than idling, no? Nice cars btw!

Outside temps? Did I miss it?

lol that was autocorrect. Should be called auto incorrect.

That’s not a huge. But certainly ly significant. Also the winters will have a narrower track than a same size summer regardless of the stated size. What do those weigh?

As for staging lanes, I keep the car off and hood open wait for a gap then get goo and turn it off coasting in neutral. If you’re really keen, push your car.

Do a couple or few runs in a row if it’s not busy then if you’re slowing down park it hood up with ice on the Intake manifold let it sit till my oil is back to cold or 60 celsius. If I’m alone e I will bring a laptop and watch a movie I’ve downloaded in between runs.

nope…12.00 is twelves…

I have never weighed them. The tires themselves are 25 lbs according to Tirerack, but looks like Tirerack doesn’t sell the specific wheels I have any more - so can’t get specs on them. They are definitely lighter than the peelers.

Thnx, man! I’m pretty sure we were the only two Audis there - and we received at least a few compliments on our cars. It was also pretty cool to see a supercharged Jeep SRT run an 11.7. That thing was insane!

Temp avg was about 50. Unfortunately, it took an extra two hours for the track to open, so we couldn’t take advantage of the early morning temps.

I like those srt8 jeeps

We used to have a guy here with a real quick one. They get out of the hole like nobody’s business. Do they ever lose time om the second half of the track though when physics starts laying an ass whooping on the aero.

So the appropriate thing to do is insert “fastest stock-catted A6!” into my signature and then proceed to argue with every single person who mentions “A6” and “1/4” in the same sentence, right? Heck, maybe I’ll mention that my A6 is faster than primetime’s A6 as well…

You can put

“Fastest a6 on earth*”

*earth=audirevolution.net/quartermile

It’s also faster than primetime’s TTRS which will be going 20 mph max for the next few weeks l

^^ Lol! Can’t wait to see Prime’s build and track times with the TTRS.
