s6 brake upgrade options

So i have standard discs and pads on my s6, Im thinking of swapping out the pads for something with a bit more stopping power, Ferodo ds2500’s seem like a good option. Also is it worth upgrading the brake lines to the stainless steel braided lines? I currently dont have much confidence in the standard setup to stop things tanks very well when you are driving the car on a bit  Is there any other upgrade options from any other models that people do consider on the s6 which is a nice upgrade for daily driving?

From my experience and watching others I’d stick with the oem brake lines I’ve seen more stainless steel lines fail then I have rubber oem.

i dont see many options from the likes of Goodridge. ill guess ill just stick with the stock ones ill try some different pads and fresh fluid

I used techstar pads and oem rotors with motul 5.1 brake fluid and was pretty satisfied with the performance.

Fitting the VW Phaeton brake ducts has been the best upgrade for my brakes to date.

Parts numbers are

3D0 615 447 G
3D0 615 448 G

3D0 615 311 C
3D0 615 312 C

Very easy to fit with just a minor adjustment required to the lower mounting hole.

Buddyboy check with JHM they might have lightweight rotors to go with your combo.

I have seen the same thing. OE brake lines are very good. Usually there is more gain by using a better fluid then a better brake line

Chatting with previous owner he said that there are already brake ducts on it, i must get it up on the car lift later to investigate so and see whats there.

I’ve always liked the Phaeton, but everytime I’ve looked for one for sale two things happened

  1. there are like 4 for sale in all of canada
  2. all 4 have 200,000 kms on them

Seems like there is no brake ducts on it. ill add these parts to the shopping list so for the new year

I’d avoid JHM.

Ordered manifold spacers with an additional set of gaskets back in October for when I did the carbon cleanout/manifold replacement.

When installing the spacers, discovered they sent me 4 of the drivers side gaskets rather than 2 of each, as well as not sending enough hardware (longer manifold bolts to compensate for the spacer thickness).

Ended up going to the dealer and paying for new gaskets to finish the install.

Contacted them on the following Monday to have them send me a return label and the missing hardware, to which I was told I wouldn’t receive a refund for the money I spent on the incorrect parts they sent until the parts were received. (being the owner/operator of a small automotive business, had this been one of my customers I’d immediately issue the refund for the difference and trust that the parts would be sent back)

After confirming my return was received I was told refund would go through on Friday (almost three weeks ago now). I’ve emailed and called multiple times since with no answers. Only replies via email have been “i’m going to look into it right now”, and then receive no follow up.

As of today, the money still hasn’t been refunded, and for the third week in a row I’ve been told “we don’t issue refunds until Friday”. Filed a dispute with my CC company today for the $50 difference.

That sucks. I never had any issues with them and I know lots of others that have done well.

Try sending jake a pm on here. I know it is a little late now but he is very helpful. I know anytime there has been mix ups in the past jake took care of it.

Jake is the one I’ve been dealing with via email. Hopefully my case is just a one off thing, but sucks it’s my first time dealing with them and it takes a month to get refunded for parts they sent incorrectly.
Last couple weeks it’s been “I’m looking into it right now” and then silence after that until I call again…

I did finally receive an email yesterday evening saying my return has been processed, however I haven’t seen it reflected on my account. Once the money shows up in my account i’ll cancel the dispute.

After much research, I went with EBC USR rotors and Redstuff pads. Not a lot of options for rotors.

As to upgrades of the brake system in general, there aren’t many kits with a ‘larger capacity’ than what we’ve got. I have a brake set from the RS5/R8 and at 365mm, it is debatable if they would have better thermal properties. Definitely look cooler. C6 RS6 brakes are the obvious choice, but also consider that upgrading to any RS brakes will really limit your options in terms of pads & rotors. And they will be much more expensive.

So, my advice is, try RedStuff or YellowStuff on a quality rotor - if you are finding you’re getting too much fade, then consider going bigger.

I have a B7 RS4 eight piston front brake setup with YellowStuff pads over JHM lightweight rotor rings on my B6 S4. It can easily cause the 265/35/18 Michelin SS tires to lock up and trip the ABS on. I know that the C6 S6 is a bigger and heavier car but those brakes should still get the job done well. The only real downside is the lack of options for replacement pads/rotors and of course the prices as you already said.

I think ill just throw in a set of Yellowstuff when the current oem ones are gone. They are easily to get locally. I told myself i wouldnt mod this car, so ill just call it improvements over standardweak points

Dont fight the urge to mod the car.

I had the same problem with JHM
I ordered the spacers and they sent me passenger side gaskets and no bolts. I asked them for a refund because I had to go out and buy the drivers side from the dealer and they told me they can’t do that. I politely told the guy to kiss my a$$.
I was very polite and the guy kept transferring me to someone else… I am pissed but over it. Screw them.

“Screw JHM, they are the only company who gives a fuck about making new parts for my car”

…haha

I’m sure we are only getting one side here, but my dealings with JHM are pretty flawless. I had a few complaints a couple years ago when they grew too fast, were under staffed and impossible to get in touch with, but it would have been absurd to write them off as a company I’d do business with in the future. Correct me if I’m wrong but the two of you are willing to cut ties with the only company making new parts for your almost 10 year old cars because of $50 worth of parts and a little of your time. I personally think that is crazy…do you say fuck McDonald’s over a $2 cheeseburger they screwed up?

Both cases seem to be pretty poorly handled by jhm. They deserve this punch in the face for that first story if that is true.

When a company blows Mr off like that for $50 it makes me think they are $50 from bankruptcy and can’t afford it. .
We know that’s not the case as jhm is a multi million dollar business. So I’m not sure why they just don’t eat shit when they fuck up. Must be that car parts world is full of scam artists and liars so they have to treat everyone shit to cover their own ass.

The second case it sounds like the guy ‘resolved’ the issue before contacting jhm then they were unable to do anything for him. Makes sense. Still sucks because it was caused by their fuckup.

The moral of the story is to check your order when you receive it (from anywhere) before you get in too deep to the job. This is work 101.

As another McDonald’s analogy, these two stories are the equivalent of buying drive thru , then driving 6 miles away before checking the order.

Opening up your car by removing the manifold, and THEN checking your spacers gaskets and hardware order is correct is a recipe for being stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I did finally have the money appear back in my account about a week ago. So it ‘only’ took 6 weeks (since I sent them an email to notify them they sent the wrong parts) to refund $50, which seems pretty absurd for a large company. Amazon refunds your money same day, and if they lose my business they wouldn’t even notice. I also assume people attempt to defraud Amazon far more regularly.

The person I dealt with over the phone was friendly enough and I never found them to be rude at all. I simply posted to share my experience of poor service as far as returns/refunds go.

I never said screw them, just simply that I would avoid them. I’m somewhat fortunate as I have a background in fabrication within the automotive field, so them being one of the few manufacturers for parts for these cars doesn’t effect me as much as most.
