Neat thing they did but utterly stupid. In the end you’ll actually loose power. There is the chance that the upper rpm range might flow a little better but the down low will take a big hit and overall its not a positive. Add the fact you can’t have a hood and its a big nothing burger. Still neat to see it can be done. Wonder how much if any adjustments needed to be made.
i’m just quoting this for the fact that you used the term “nothing burger” and i found it hilarious.
but it does makes sense since the gallardo engine is meant to run at much higher RPMs and the car is much lighter. for luxury sedans, low-end torque is more meaningful (practically) than high-end power.
I just don’t get that people spend all this time to buy these parts but know so little about them and how they work. EXACTLY what you mentioned. The lambo and R8 are 8500rpm cars the with a camshaft profile and intake profile to match a much higher gear ratio and lower weight car. The S6 has a camshaft profile that is so much different and the aim is to the lower rpm range with a max range of 6800rpm where the car shifts.
You see pictures like that and sure to all the credit. That’s incredibly stupid but cool all in the same breath.
I hear you Justin you are right about the factory use for that intake, but you don’t know the build, and have no idea what they put into it. I think turning your back on the Lambo R8 world of parts could offer is just being stubborn. And Obviously it ridiculous intake filters sitting on the windshield would have to have a huge Cowl to fit it under but some people like that look. I applaud the guy for trying something new and with the right modifications, I couldn’t in any way see why more air flow wouldn’t be beneficial . Besides it’s not like we have many options seems like all the projects have lost their spunk. it’s not always about being piratical some times it just cause that is Freaking Awesome! I think I need to be talking on the forum that has the guy with the lambo intake manifold maybe I can share what I have learned and help someone.
To each his own, but that mod is just plain silly to me. Certainly from an appearance standpoint (debatable, I know). And, if no changes were made to the base engine components, its silly from an engineering standpoint (not debatable, for at least the reasons Justin mentions).
While I appreciate your excitement I would say… don’t look and think its stubborn… look at it like I’m being more so realistic.
Sure you can say I don’t know what they put into it but at the same time I know that they didn’t put into it and that’s a lot of thought. and just looking at the picture will tell you that. I can attach a carnival ride seat to the back of my car but didn’t make it a good idea.
IMHO everyone here will say about what you see them saying. WOW that’s neat but… stupid. And AGAIN I’ll say that’s neat but stupid because it is.
Technically why is it stupid.
no matter what you do for a single plane short runner intake you need -
1 higher RPM. You don’t have that. Your transmission controls the shifting RPM. even if you could control the shifting rpm in the transmission they don’t hold up to those high rpms
2 a longer duration and lift in the camshafts to achieve use of the intake. don’t have that either
3 an adjustment in the ECU to accept the higher rev range and hp if any is made. Keep in mind that the ECU is restricted on the S6 and S8 as it is detuned.
4 if not most obvious a solution that won’t flood your engine bay when it rains.
5 its not multi stage to help build low end TQ that the S6 needs and the list goes on but that’s the short list.
I think there is the school of thought that because the R8 and lambo have so much more power than the S6 and S8 do that its as easy as bolting on there parts. But there is also an utter lack of mechanical understanding on what parts do what and why.
Maybe its just me but.
I think We are looking at this in two different perspectives.
Progress for the sake of progress isn’t progress. when Its just trying to do something because nothing else is getting done and if its making less power and moving in a direction that makes no sense then its not progress its not the right parts and its not awesome…
I’ve seen for years where hords of guys will cheer on unsuspecting guys to try endless money dumping projects only to see the project fail because there was more excitement to do something than excitement to make sure what your doing made any sense.
Its the hot air intake debate in sorts. You get S6 onwers who put hot air intakes on there car because its doing SOMETHING. Until you realize that your OEM air boxes acted as high pressure zones that helped push air into the motor and now with a hot air intake your just pulling in hot air that is causing your car to pull more ignition and super heat the intake track.
Now with all that being said in my above post. I love to see people really stretching the limits and doing things differently. If you want to put a 50 foot wing on the back of your car. ok… I don’t think its a great idea but I have no issues if someone wants to do it.
Now the difference is when someone wants to put a 50 foot wing on there car and they think its going to help the car be better in some way that it won’t. At that point the entire idea of the forum and its supporting members is to say something. Like Hey a 50 foot wing as a terrible idea and its not going to do what you want to do. So maybe think about something different.
But if that someone says hey I want to put this 50 foot wing on the back of my car because I love 50 foot wings and thats why. Then I’ll be happy to be like… ok try to bolt it here and here for the best strength.
If the guy with the lambo intake was like hey I just want to put a lambo intake on my car for no other reason than its a lambo intake and I have money to burn… Then great job… But even then I might have said exactly what murphenur said and thats well think about turning it around the other direction.
IMHO the entire idea of the forum is to help eachother. I don’t want to see you or anyone burn good money on a pipe dream. You or anyone can do whatever they like but if good people don’t step in and say… yeah hey… that might not be a good idea and here is why…Then why are we here.
Fenixgoon you said it. I hate to come off as a hater but it actually looks worse in video and sounds worse than I was expecting. I would have to assume the one camera flyby was at leaset at part throttle but it just sounded like it was lugging and didnt sound like it was moving quickly though the rev range. Almost exactly like its got a short runner intake on it with no low end.
neat that someone did this and it seems clear that nobody should do the same thing
Sexy ASF! I LOVE ITB’s, and the dual stage probably isn’t helping as much as the stock manifold in the torque department because the trumpets are so short - but my god that sound. You’d have to develop a stand alone management system to get around the two throttle bodies and map/maf to use open ITB’s though, but that’s where the really sexy sounds are at.
I’ll have to load this up in chrome to translate - curious as to where the plenums and tb’s are from.
