Shipping a Stock Catback

I haven’t gotten under the car to check, or found any pictures, but is there anyway to separate the stock cat-back so that shipping would be more manageable. I’m trying to talk the guy who’s got an FI cat-back for sale on AZ to sell it to me + my stock unit. I am willing to send mine first and do it via Greyhound, but I am thinking that one: finding a box that size will be near impossible and two: it may be too big even for Greyhound to take.

Any thoughts? Is doing the deal locally the only way to get rid of a stock exhaust?

Don’t bother boxing it. Wrap it with bubble wrap. Greyhound will take it that way, though I suggest cutting it to keep the size down.

You’re right, I forgot we were talking about greyhound here. No box needed.

I really didn’t want to have to cut it up though. If I did the new guy would have to go get it re-welded before he could install it. Sadly though, I don’t think there would be any other way around it. That why I figured I’d ask.

Chop saw

When I had trexturk do the exhaust on my A4, I had him chop out the resonator and mufflers so if I ever sold the car(and I did) I could just have him reinstall the mufflers and resonator but with new piping that he (or any exhaust shop) could easily fab up.

Isn’t this the guy that is trading the car in? Why does he care what exhaust is on it?

^^He just wants an extra $500 in his pocket. Exhaust does nothing for trade in value.

I’ve still got a non res FI catback sitting at home… LOL

As far as shipping a stock exhaust, could be a PITA even with using greyhound, just because of it all being one piece.

bottom line is the stock exhaust is like 9 or 10 feet long. You need to chop it in half for shipping. It’s really not that big of a deal.

Shipping your stocker will cost a bunch so I’d probably just find a more efficient way to do this. Did Silver B6 S4 ever sell his?

Why not cut the stock exhaust right after the briefcase piece in the middle then use two exhaust clamps like how the downpipes connect to the cat back section? That way the stock cat back exhaust can be shipped in three much more manageable sections.

Here is a picture of where I am talking about.

that would work re cutting it, but taking off your stock exhaust and shipping it cross country just to buy some guy’s used exahust (and hoping he doesn’t sell it to someone else first) would be a HUGE stretch.

Unless he’s only asking $500 for FI…I would find another way.

BC,
If somebody can say for sure that my Non res FI will fit your avant from my sedan, I’ll sell it to ya.

Don’t need a stock exhaust since I don’t have a B6 S4 anymore, but I do need to eventually get rid of this thing, taking up garage space.

The only thing is, I had trexturk cut off my neckdowns when he did my catless DPs, so you’d need an exhaust shop to hook it up however you wanted

If Ryan’s (lqmeh) cat back fits you should buy from him. He’s a stand up guy. Bought my DPs from him and it was a smooth transaction.

what happened to your B6…sold? Did I miss that?

Yeah, about a two months or so

When my bank 2 camshaft adjuster went, and even with my warranty it cost me a bunch outta pocket, they only replaced what went bad.

had they replaced everything I would have kept it, but 2 years in a row I had 2 major failures. 1st was the bank 1 cylinder head, then the bank 2 camshaft.

ended up with a TDI Jetta to save money and eventually buy a project car.

Just didn’t want to keep dumping more money into something that seemed to cause me more problems every year.

good call. I think you have to cut your losses at some point if it’s a car that seems destined to financially kill you.

Sell that Fast Intentions already…they’re valuable in the aftermarket. I had no trouble getting buyers for mine when I was selling it.

Yes, I sold it for $850 shipped back in March.

I just sent him an email. I have other things to fix on my car (ike the A/C since it gets ~100 degrees during mid-day here in GA right now) and non-res isn’t my first choice but if he is looking to unload on that FI catback then I am game.

Emailed you back.

Well you offered me a pretty nice deal but looks like lady luck has shined on me today. Right after reading your email I happened to get on the local cragslist and found somebody selling a FI res-catback super cheap. I’ll be headed down to ATl this evening to pick it up.

that’s awesome BC. Resonated FTW!

iqmeh yours will sell quick. Just advertise it on AZ and it will be gone in a week
