Strangely the family called the cops and basically said, weeks ago, ‘our kid is nuts and talking about doing bad stuff on youtube’
So the cops interviewed him, and deemed him fine. But…none of them subscribed to his fucking youtube channel? If one person had, they would have seen this video, and could have stopped him.
This video was a cry for help. He gave everyone a chance to stop him. Nobody did…and then he went through with it.
That’s disturbing shit. Really tragic what happened.
I’m not sure there’s much the cops could have done, given that it’s pretty difficult to commit someone to a psych ward against their will. At least that’s my understanding. I don’t think generalized threats like the ones in his videos would be sufficient for an arrest.
(Thanks for the summary bango - I had missed it. Very upsetting.)
In Florida, we have the “Baker Act” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_Mental_Health_Act) where someone can be involuntarily committed for further evaluation if they are considered a harm to themself or others. Not sure how Cali handles things.
The video is disturbing, no doubt. Police get pretty numb to shit, though. They deal with crackpots (many harmless) all day long. Not hard to imagine what happens when they talk to a clean kid in a BMW who took his meds that day…
You maybe didn’t watch the second video from liveleak (which was deleted from his YouTube) . If the cops had been watching his YouTube channel they would have heard him say “tomorrow night, as payback for girls not liking me, I’m going to the most popular sorority house here at UCSB to kill every blonde slut in there, and then I’m going to slaughter as many people as I can in the streets of (whatever his town is)”
Yes but again, managing mental health issues is one thing. Subscribing to his YouTube channel since his videos were obviously his only outlet, and were escalating, is another. He laid it all out to see if anyone care enough to stop him.
To be honest I am doubting the whole ‘we told the cops ages ago’. The ‘police’ (campus police? FBI? local guys?), according to the lawyer, “described the child as a wonder full caring human”
I can promise you… No cop would call a 20 year old a child…nor would they call him a wonderful human lol. That was the lawyer trying to paint a picture. That picture being that his clients did the right thing, and that they raised a great kid and are great parents. He referred to him as a child 16 times in a 3 minute statement. He was very deliberate with his use of the word child.
Sounds like his parents and their truly AWFUL lawyer are trying to get out ahead of a liability. Trying to eliminate any culpability or negligence. I think they forgot they live in America lol.
I would love to get a 3-4 year old 4.2 if I could fit. They don’t depreciate much. I bet you could drive it for 7,000 bucks a year when you add up depreciation. Aka what people pay to lease a b8 a4 2.0t s-line lol
