Shooting Shit Thread

Long distance shooting.

I just thought this gun as art enough to have a shelf of its own.

Love the long guns, CV!

Here’s my “birthday present” (ordered in Dec, arrived yesterday).

SIG SAUER MCX in 5.56

Stock trigger was crisp, but ultra heavy (like 10lbs lol). So installed a Geissele 2 stage trigger (SSA-E).

With BCM KAG and an empty 30rd Lancer L5AWM mag, it weighed in at 7.2 pounds.

Already have a Surefire X300 Ultra on order and figuring out what Red Dot to put on it (leaning towards a Trijicon MRO)

Nice stuff gents!

First outing with my SIG MCX at an indoor 25 yard range. I installed a Geissele SSA-E trigger as soon as I got home with it (after giving it a good cleaning) - along with a BCM KAG. Rifle now also wears the newer Surefire X300 Ultra (600 lumens and increased run time).

All shots were with M193 ball ammo (specifically, Igman M193).

First two shots from the rifle at the range (untouched Iron Sights - resting rifle on the shelf, me shooting from a kneeling position):

Setting up the irons at 25 (resting rifle on the shelf, me shooting from a kneeling position):

Here’s a fruit phone slo-mo of me shooting (pardon the vertical video - the one taking the video apparently did not share my extreme dislike of vertical videos):

I also found out that I have been shooting the rifle at the “-” (suppressed) gas position lol. It cycles!

I then installed a Trijicon MRO and again went to an indoor 25 yard range and shot shoulder fired (unsupported without a sling - do excuse the flyer lol - for size reference, that’s a standard letter sized paper target):

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160207/3a4d56f3c11860872219ecc090a4563d.jpg

I did this ahead of hitting the 100 yard range. Unfortunately, the screws on the MRO’s stock mount were super soft and I rounded one of the screw heads while checking torque (and was under the rating too… grr…). So I replaced it with an ADM QD mount and did my best to readjust it using the iron sights as best I could (full cowitness for the win!).

And hit the outdoor range again today (again, shooting M193 ball):

It was good enough to hit paper from the first shot. Walked it in from high and left (excuse the bigger holes group was via my FN SCAR 17S with magnified optic shooting ball ammo).

So I’m pretty happy with the results for a non magnified optic. I’m sure with more rounds, I’ll build proficiency and the groups will shrink.

Pic of the rifle at the range:

All 100 yard shots were done with the handguard on the sandbag (the BCM KAG really shining) and unsupported in the rear (just my arms and elbows - no sleds or sandbags).

I’m will report back with American Eagle M193 and PPU M193 at some point if there’s any difference (not really expecting there to be - plan on just sticking with M193 for this rifle).

The slow mo is cool that it has sound. My note 3 does good slo mo video but no sound. It’s about 3 years old though. Which phone did you use?

Thanks! I just used the iPhone 6. The video is very compressed though (soft/fuzzy looking).

I like how you free hold and fire off sand. I see too may people at the range in lock jiggs shooting. I think its ok to site in the rifle but for testing and actual shooting free hold is the way to go. Nice groups add in that the scope isnt magnafied thats very impressive

probably doesn’t help that someone is handholding the phone. Try a tripod or fixed mount next time. Should improve. and try to add some light.

My 7.62x39 Upper parts are in the mail, can’t wait to get that going.

Had an interesting day at the range on Saturday. I installed a 3.5lb ghost trigger connector and it didn’t work too well. It would fire twice for every trigger pull. Once when I pulled the trigger and once when I let go. Fun to shoot fast but that was about it. Junked it right when I got home.

THEN.

Two different S&W .357 revolvers plinking with some Fiocchi 38SPC. TWO SQUIBS IN A ROW FROM THE SAME BOX. I couldn’t believe it. Fiocchi is a good brand and to have two squibs back to back, as rare as those happen I should have bought a lottery ticket.

Gun made to look like a smartphone.

interesting.

It’s an interesting derringer design. Love how some of the media picked it up and went all crazy with it. haha!

I have never seen a real photo of this “phone gun” that everyone is getting their panties in a wad for.

what’s the point of it? doesn’t make sense. There’s still a big gun handle. Doesn’t look very effective at concealing its identity.

The handle is supposed to fold so it looks like a phone. This is just something someone drew up and liberals are freaking out over it.

My arsenal is growing. Picked this up a few months ago. Love it.

That is sweet!

I bought my first Glock a while back. A Glock 43 as a super compact carry. The first and only Glock that I can actually shoot decently.

At 15 yards:

very nice. is that your carry weapon?

Yeah, it’s my “summer” (tshirt and shorts) carry. It’s really nice. Holster I have allows me to carry a spare mag easily too (without having to take up a pocket).

I still carry the 1911, but I really want to downsize to a ‘commander’ sized barrel (cut down the length by almost an inch).

Last time I was at the range, my good buddy suggested that I practice shouldering the rifle or bringing up the pistol to my eyes from a low ready everytime I shoot.

That way, I can develop muscle memory and improve target acquisition. Also helps practice from a draw.

He also gave me some pointers to think about about both my pistol and rifle hold.

So, I did just that.

Got a few fliers in the beginning, but really solidified as I went through my 30rd magazine. Target was at 25 yards and my rifle has a 100 yards zero (so it should hit 1.5-2 inches low at 25 yards). And I got a good group where the holes were connecting.

Very confidence inspiring to know I can hit the center mass of a target at 25 yards very quickly through my unmagnified red dot.

He also stressed that I should break up from shooting in a static manner (it’s great for working on fundamentals and accuracy, but he said that in real world application, it’s always dynamic and never ideal. He also suggested that I start incorporating things like kneeling and leaning (like shooting from corners).

It’s very cool to get shooting pointers from a 20 year retired US Army Special Forces guy (who’s also one of the nicest folks I know).

Also, to break things up, I tried the ‘Mozambique Drill’ for the first time (from 10 yards).
