WHY JHM 2.5" Stainless Steel Test-Pipes or HFC Pipes?
One look at the OEM Cat-Pipes that come on your B8-S5 4.2L FSI V8 and you’ll see how important it is to upgrade your pipes from the factory setup:
As most of you already know, the S5 comes with a weak launch assist feature stock. Of course we changed it around to help get you out of the hole better.
However, during the R&D of tuning the S5 we couldn’t get over the fact that the Launch Assist did not sound “manly” enough, so we actually went back in and changed the tuning of the Launch Assist feature to give it that aggressive sound you hear in the video. Even though the performance between JHM LA V1 and JHM LA V-Manly is the same, the feeling you get when engaging the new manly launch assist is priceless!
I remember the first time I used LA on my B7 S4 I scared the shot out of my buddy and his wife behind us. He said, “dude I seriously almost shit myself because I didn’t know what was happening, I jumped like a little bitch!”
Car sounds totally awesome no doubt… what kind of 60ft time with the lc? seems to spin a decent amount, does it bog bad if you lower the rpm’s a little? just curious…
p.s. Jake, you guys should get an AudioTechnica lavalier microphone like the one we discussed in the GoPro thread. I showed it to Jason when I was there in December and he was going to order one (like $20) but from the sounds of that video, he didn’t.
I will have to check that out. I need a mic for my hero3. Jason probably hasn’t had a chance to get around to ordering it lol. A lot of that footage is not very recent either.
You guys could probably pick up 40 hp with full catless exhaust. Unfortunately you have a manifold instead of headers which leaves a bunch on the table although expensive to replace , and then you have these jagged bends in the downpipes and cat sections. No idea what diameter they are.
I started a thread on rs246 a year ago asking for rs5 exhaust information (pictures, measurements) and there has been nothing useful posted. Just “I bought a milltek for mine”. That’s the standard over there, especially for the b7 rs4. Most on that site don’t like buying American exhausts that are properly sized. Not sure if its because America, or because they don’t have measuring tapes because milltek is a frigging replica of stock
They go to mrc, pay $7000 for milltek exhaust, carbon clean, intake port and polish, mrc ‘stage 2’ tune, and sing the praises of mrc when they gain 40 crank hp over their stock dyno run from all of that, zero of which is the exhaust, most is the carbon and a bit the tune.
Its really weird. Here if you took a carbonned up rs4 (300 whp or so), and gave it JHM fullback and tune (360+ whp) , you would gain something like 75 HP at the crank. Over there, the only time they see that kind of delta is when they had a vac leak stock.
Here’s the fastest UK bolt on rs4 with a full mod list. I think he went 12.6 later
There’s a few guys in the UK who already have the Jhm tune and a few more getting tune + exhaust or other 2.75 exhaust, so hopefully we can convince a couple to go to santa pod. DA is great there year round thanks to it always being mild.
Rant over. Hopefully now that the rs5 is selling over here we will some get some good bolt on mods.
nice find. What a waste of time and money those aftermarket headers are then. I gave them some credit thinking the RS5 just had a crappy manifold.
although it’s lame that there’s a cat jammed on the stock headers right up 12" from the ports. What a dumb design. Great for emissions. Shit for everything else.
