if that was directed at me, i meant were getting more and more members coming over to the better side of the forum world
Been here for a year, just got tired of lurking, haha.
ah sorry, i thought you said APR is picking up some steam. Thought something cool had happened lol.
hahaha, that would figure.
Anyone else notice that turkey neck has disappeared…
His wife has been out of town with HER car…
i’m anxiously awaiting the other tunes to have a go in real temperatures.
Should be an interesting summer to say the least ;D
I think you mean the entire GIAC thing
- AWE - dead quiet
- GIAC Austin - dead quiet
- 1fast scammer - gone
- then there’s what’s his name…bigfatzero who pretended to not be affiliated with GIAC
All have vanished. All have gone quiet. All those quarter mile attempts? None.
Definitely something strange going on.
Did TSIVAS ever get some data on a GIAC car at the dyno or on the pbox?
Saki- u missed my followup post!! ;D

I did Vbox, vag com logs on a 93 GIAC 6MT (weird I have tested more manuals than DSGs on our test track).
The 4200-6500 rpms times (3rd gear pull) I recorded via vagcom were ~4.1 seconds. On par with what I did with my APR stage 1 tune (with passenger).
APR Stage 2+ version 1 times for same 4200-6500 rpms pull in 3rd were about 3.6s for 93 octane and 3.51s for 100 file.
Analyzing measuring blocks…
—MAF is about same as APR stage 1 ~1365 Kg/h or 379 g/s (Revo and APR Stage 2 max out at 1400 kg/h or 389 g/s IIRC).
—Timing… Hit a max of 20.625 Degrees. Revo hit a max of 25.125, I hit max of 20.625-21 I believe. There was also timing pull on his logs as opposed the the Zero point zero timing pull I saw on the Revo logs.
—Boost… Seemed to definitely be on the lower end. It maxed out early (only ~13.8 psi on one run with the 1017 mbar atm pressure that night) and def tapered off like a stock boost graph, whereas the other two tunes built up peak boost at around redline or close to it. Don’t know what was going on there. Boost leak??
—A/F… Ran ~11.7:1, about same as APR. Revo ran richer.
—Bypass valve… stayed shut for a while and opened to ~16%, APR stage 2 v1 did not stay shut at all and was dumping boost from the get go up to max ~19%. Revo stayed shut for almost the entire run and dumped a little boost towards end (was like 5% IIRC).
That being said… Vbox data was better than the Vagcom data for the GIAC car.
Acceleration was on par with the APR Stage 2 v1 setup I have 60-120 (taking the 5th gear change out of equation).
GIAC 93 stage 1 car/6MT. (DA -1300)
MODS: AWE intake, FI exhaust
Run 1
60-90 3.8 s
60-100 5.69s
60-120 9.7s
60-130 12.02s (nice shift to 5th)
Run 2
60-90 3.71s
60-100 5.57s
60-120 9.5s
60-130 12.19s (nice shift to 5th)
Run 3
60-90 3.79s
60-100 5.87s
60-120 9.91s
60-130 13.18s
APR Stage 2+ V1 93 6MT (DA -780)
MODS: Tune, AWE tuning intake/exhaust
60-90 … 3.65 seconds
60-100 … 5.73 seconds
60-120 … 9.53 seconds
60-130 … 12.73 seconds (bad shift to 5th)
APR Stage 2+ V2 93 6MT *(DA -780)
MODS: Stratmosphere Intake, Winter wheels/tires
60-90 … 3.74 seconds
60-100 … 5.51 seconds
60-120 … 9.31 seconds
60-130 … 11.60 seconds *(no need to shift to 5th)
Revo Stage 1 93 6MT (DA -780)
MODS: Tune only
60-90 … 3.52 seconds
60-100 … 5.55 seconds
60-120 … 9.21 seconds
60-130 … 12.98 seconds (bad shift to 5th)
Revo Stage 1 93 DSG (DA -1000)
MODS: Tune only
60-90 … 3.63 seconds
60-100 … 5.25 seconds
60-120 … 9.15 seconds
60-130 … 11.87 seconds
Seems like the Revo Stage 1 in our 6MT tests is even faster than the APR stage 2 v2 up to 120. If he had done a good shift to 5th he would have had a better time too.
Gotta retest Apexit’s setup again because his times were beating every setup we had tested which is promising. But then again he has a BBK and LW wheels which help a ton. just busting apexit’s chops.
why are you looking at 4200-6500 stuff? That’s applicable only to old ass B5 S4s with a tune where the tuner didn’t know enough to eliminate the torque/throttle limiter.
That’s why FATS is a joke by the way. None of those guys seem to talk about it, but the specific range was created to allow comparison of all tunes, including the ones where the tuner didn’t eliminate that simple restriction (early B5 tunes were…shall we say…terribly simple).
I guess that’s what always happens…early B6/7 tunes were terrible. JHM came in 3-4 years after the platform launched here. Early RS4 tunes even worse. Early B8 tunes were pretty simple too…simple enough that APR had to scramble to create updated versions to keep up once competition arrived.
The point it you shouldn’t create a measuring stick for your modern car that is based on a silly handicap that a few guys hadn’t figured out…on another platform…8 years ago.
Yeah I know. I can do full rev range in future I was just being lazy and using an old FATS calculator where u drop the revs and times in. Gotta reconfigure for new data range for 6mt guys and another database for DSG guys. U know I love doing this shit lol.
I like 3000-7000 rpms- third gear pulls.
No comments on the other more important stuff!?!
On GIAC?
Yeah, pretty simple. No fucking way they’d make 400 whp on a dyno that wasn’t under their control (or wasn’t an insanely happy reading dyno).
All marketing crock. Oh…and this thread is finally back on topic! lol.
Yep, and their strip times are no better than mine were with APR V1 tune, even in better conditions with the exact same mods albeit different manufactuers…
LOL ^^^
tsivas, to give you something to waste your time, you should make a spreadhseet with all the 60-90 times you were able to gather. Not 60-100 because there’ sa shift. Not 60-120 because it’s a shift AND you’re into double the speed limit etc.
60-90 seems a nice piece of data. Or 30-90
Then you can sort the spreadsheet to compare all the same trans B8 guys to each other and just see who pulls and who doesn’t. Comparing to MT to DSG may not be applicable as the gearing is different. i.e. the slower car may be faster in a different gear, thus making the comparison not exactly perfect. Still interesting.
how about you all just line up and race. 1st gear roll, say 10mph and gun it. probably the most accurate way to see who is faster, the faster car simply wins. if 6spd guys want to bitch that dsg’s are faster, line up 6spds and dsg’s separate, winners face eachother. almost like march madness, the fastest car will win
I like this idea but I prefer a dig race at a strip so no one goes to jail and it’s all timed… Besides us slow DSG’s can only launch off idle so a 6-speed car has to be faster, no? LOL Just tough to get people from all over the country into one place…
in a group of 100 you’ll get good results. In a group of 3 if they’re close (as they are) you’ll get the one good driver winning. You should see some of the shift data on the pbox. Some guys take 0.25 seconds to shift (fast). Some guys take 0.4 seconds to shift (common). Some guys take 0.6 seconds. It’s all over the place. A 0.25 guy vs. a 0.4 guy, through 3 shifts (10-120 mph for example) is going to pick up about 2 car lengths.
bring your pbox this friday. I want to see some of my data.
