So how bad am I going to lose?

Yeah, I know a bench racing post… For now… lol Jeff and I plan to race at Thompson on Oct. 12th or 19th. I wasn’t going to mention it but since he did I figured why not… Will both have gopros and I’ll have someone tape from outside the cars, hopefully, not my one brother but that may be my only option… Both are TNT days so it shouldn’t be crowded and we will get plenty of passes… Hoping for a low DA given the time of year…

Cars:
Me - 2010 S4 – APR tune, pulley, CPS, 034 HFC’s, Miltek non-res exhaust, custom intake, Brembo BBK, JHM LW rear rotors, BBS CHR wheels, H&R sways, and Alu-Kruez

Jeff - 2012 S4 – GIAC tune, GIAC DSG tune, pulley, meth injection, Eurocode longtubes, AWE resonated exhaust, roc-euro intake, VMR wheels, ECS rotors, Eurocode USS setup, Alu-Kruez, H&R sports, and SPC adj. control arms

Should be interesting! On paper he has me with the headers, DSG tune, and meth… I believe I have more experience with this car at the strip but not sure how much it will help? Either way it should be fun and stir some good GIAC/APR discussions! LOL

Headers vs decat = nominal
Dsg tune vs stock 2010= nothing
Meth + 93 on a race tune vs actual race gas = nothing (i would give advantage to you actually)

Only possible advantage is if he runs abracebfile and runs the same fuel as you but also runs me for cooling. Otherwise I don’t see the advantage.

This is the guy who thinks he is running pump gas when he runs a race file with meth +pump?

Based on that alone i don’t think he will win. Also didn’t he run like low13s as his best? And isn’t the GIAC Dsg for the new cars still all wonky? I wouldn’t be surprised to see him run 12.4

P. S prime time…on audizine when you want to link to a guy’s post, click on the little number of his post and use that url. Then when we click it, it takes us right to it.

Saki, Thanks for the heads up on the linking… Wasn’t aware of that…

As for the race…

I agree the headers vs HFC’s is nominal at best… I think the higher redline of the DSG tune will help a little so I call this nominal as well… Although my 60’s have proven tough to beat… I believe he will be running race gas as I will… I have a few pails of URT left and one is designated for this day…

He went 12.9x with intake, headers and exhaust in 2500+ DA and has gone 12.3 at 114 on 93 pre DSG tune and w/m…

At the end of the day win or lose it will be fun and good for the platform… Also, I’m sure GIAC would like to see him win so who knows what the tune will be? I know he has their 104 version but maybe he will have a specific 104+ meth tune so as you alluded too that could make the difference but I’m sure he would disclose that… I’ve talked to him quite a bit over email and he seems like a really good car dude… So we decided this would be a fun thing to do and he was willing to drive down for it so I fiigured why not… Like I said will make for some good forum banter either way… lol

when did he go 12.3? don’t remember that. Maybe I forgot to add him.

PT this one is super tough to gauge… I would say you have the edge based on your consistent results and tried and true launch method… I know little to nothing about W/M other than it provides additional cooling and I believe reduces knock allowing for more aggressive tuning.

One question I have is why Jeff would run race gas if his goal is to be the fastest pump gas (lets assume 93+WM is still considered pump gas) B8S4?

Anyway, good luck to both of you and I can’t wait to see the results!

fixed

If I understood his post right he runs the racegas map on 93+wm. I dont think he did the dyno testing with 93 & 100. In an earlier post he said it would be nearly impossible for same day as he’d have to wait for the gas in the lines to run through.

Saki, I thought he posted it but I can’t seem to find it… I’ll have to see if he emailed it to me or I’ll hit him up…

Bear, Agreed… Should be fun and entertaining either way… Thought I was going to lose to Imolamonster when he came gutted but I out drove him… don’t think that will be as big a factor here, could be wrong… will be interesting to see the 60ft comparisons on our cars to really see what the dsg tune does… or doesn’t do?

Yeah, I know that is his posts stated goal so maybe he will run 93? Not the impression I got but I could be wrong… Him on 93 w/m vs me on race, probably my win… Him on race w/m current tune vs me race, too close to call… Him on race w/m new tune vs me on race, probably his win…

Correct that is my understanding as well… He has sent me a few different logs and we have traded many emails…

However, if I’m driving from Canada to Thompson OH with the most or one of the most modified GIAC cars to race a fairly proven APR car who’s owner talks a lot of shit wouldn’t you go for broke? That’s just me though… Pretty sure I would have a updated tune designed for the w/m also, but again that’s just me…

I get the impression that WM+race will be a complete waste of time on this platform and nobody will bother doing it 6 months from now.

I say betting on primetime is the right way to go…

Prime GIAC takes tbus stuff serious. Back in the b5 days they would make one off files for stuff like tbis…knowing apr seems to bave the biggest market share… GIAC migbt take this as an opertunity to prove a point…

The headers might help WM is a waste I agree with saki anyone using it with race gas is stupid… the dag tune…that might actually hurt him… more rpm is just more heat…its not like the manual guys are getting better times with it… I still say you will win…knwoing GIAC I think file wise he will have a non off the shelf advantage

Can’t wait to see the result of this. If you win I have a feeling I’m going to enjoy the resulting thread.

I’ll go for prime- clearly he knows the car better than anyone down the 1320, driver mod ftw.

Have your race and then see if he’ll let you take it for a run

Prime without a doubt.

I personally think he’s playing with fire running the meth+93 on a race file especially on these cars.

Should be interesting!

Most of all, should be fun for Ron running up against another B8 S4. ;D

Few clarifications here.

He’s running 100% meth + 93octane on the 104 GIAC tune.

There is no reason to ever run meth on top of race gas. Maybe water injection for cooling alone, but not 100% meth.

Seems like there is a lot of misconceptions about methanol injection around here.

Patiently waiting for results…

Can you elaborate on these statements? How is octane + cooling worse than octane alone?

Vogz, Pretty sure he trying a few different things… A specific race gas tune compensating for the results of the wm will gain power over race gas alone… If he is running off the shelf tune, I agree with you… Will see how he does tonight…

Can you elaborate on where anyone said cooling plus octane is worse than octane?

Can you also elaborate where anyone is misunderstanding meth ‘around here’?
