FWIW so many bimmers on the road now, I find it doesn’t matter if I drive the M, S4, NSX, or whatever, it’s only the a-holes that play highway games that do silly things, they don’t care what you drive. I have found people move to the right fastest when I’ve driven full-size trucks or SUVs and approach them extra fast…
Ohhh man…you didnt… a bmw…I have had so many dissipointmrnts with the 335 that I just have nothing good to say about bmw… I know the M is different… sill I think after 6 to 8 momths you will start to want out…to me the bmw m cars are like corvettes… in great weather ots a grest car…for a while then its becomes boring very quick…in bad weather the car is a bad car and in terrible weather its a terrible car…
First let me say that Endras BMW has been fantastic. I was pretty excited to get my M so I went a few hours early as I knew paperwork would need to be done and I always like to look at what they have on the lot.
Got there about 2:45 (my appointment was for 5:00) my salesperson Peter was very attentive. Can’t tell you how many times he asked if I was okay (water, coffee, cappuccino, etc.) I think he even offered to get me something to eat well we wait. I say “we wait” as he stayed with me the entire time!
Paperwork took about an hour or so and after that he got me an Ipad well he confirmed with the guys in the garage as to when the car will be ready. Once he returned he explained it would be about another hour of detailing and a final inspection so we went down stairs to look at some bikes, 1000RR was crazy, and talked about the upcoming BMW track day.
Fast forward about a hour (shortly after 5:00) and Peter checks on the car one last time and returns with a sad look on his face… oh no… He explains that during the final inspection they plugged the car into BMW’s central database and a software update was automatically initiated. He said they had no clue as to how long it would take as 100’s of M3 where connected and being updated at the same time. He apologized and said “we’ll set you up in a fully loaded 640i which” which was the owners demo (pics above).
I was admittedly disappointed but remembered reading a thread on E90post about this update and some of the other members dealer experiences so I felt my dealer was handling it well by loaning me a sweet ride for the day so I was okay at this point. I told Peter I understand and he said the dealership also wants to throw in either a full car detail or cover the full track day cost we where talking about. I was like wow! Didn’t expect that at all… I ended up choosing the track day and spoke with the marketing manager about the event as Peter got the car ready.
Finally, the owner of the dealership came by to apologize and said once the car was done updating they’d drop the car off where ever I was.
In the end, I’m obviously disappointed that I didn’t get my M when I was supposed to but I always believed that what makes a great company great is not because they never make mistakes but how they handle the fallout afterward. I feel Endras BMW has been a great dealership to work with thus far and IF I stay with BMW they will have my future business…
Initial driving impression… The car is definitely not as fast as the S4 down low but handles better and pulls comparable up top. The exhaust sound, though muted, still sounds nice when you get on it. Compared to the milltek it’s not as deep and sounds raspier (more exotic). Paint colour is amazing! It’s impossible for me to capture the true colour via photos but from a distance the car looks like a deep rich black but as you get closer, and the sun hits it, the ruby red really shines through making you do a double take trying to distinguish the actual colour. The DSG shifts harder than the Stronic which I actually prefer. Tough to compare amenities as my S4 was more stripped down vs. the M3 fully loaded. I’m sure I’ll add to this thread as a few weeks/months pass and I get used to the car but for now I’m very excited to driver her!
You’ve had much better experiences at car dealerships than I.
I remember a service at the Audi dealer where they didn’t place the oil filter in right and I had oil in my garage and driveway. They took me in the next day to replace the filter and clean the engine bay but wouldn’t lend me a car! They said they didn’t have any loaner available but I could pay a for rental car if I needed one… what? I said that was unacceptable and I wanted to speak with the service manager. Shortly and mysteriously there after, a base Jetta was just returned (it was pouring rain outside and this thing was bone dry) and they were nice enough to lend it to me while they cleaned up the mess they made. Now you can see why my expectation level with dealerships are so low…
The car does have paddles I guess the steering wheel is turned just so that it’s tough to see them.
Oh and I’m not going anywhere! where all car enthusiast and I can’t wait to see what PT and the rest of you guys can achieve once APR’s S/C is released!
I’ll definitely take her a few times down the 1/4 but I know she’s better suited to be a track car rather than a 1/4 monster. lol!
I had a similar experience with an oil filter install around 8k. Unfortunately for me, the oil started spewing all over my engine and brakes during a 400 mile trip to Mid-Missouri. Brakes felt like they failed because they were covered in oil and then I got an EPC light due to all of the electronics being soaked in oil. Luckily that happened within 5 miles of my destination.
However, unlike your experience, AOA towed my car 150 miles to St. Louis (nearest dealership), had everything taken care of and then had it towed back for me. Still didn’t get a rental… Oh and then had the same situation when my water pump failed a few months later. That time, I had to go to St. Louis to pick the car up.
