Something New...

That is so ironic!

Since the Audi is hands down the more aesthetically appealing car over the last 10 years

And

The BMWs have dominated the performance scene forever (in general); only recently Audi is closing the gap.

However, with the B8 S4 I believe many BMW owners jumped ship to the Audi, so it is all mixed now.

Yup that’s him. Very nice guy!

But one thing I’ve realized is BMW people are very different from Audi people… ;D

What about Bavarian Technic? I guess you mean tools for both diagnostics/datalogging AND doing stuff like bulb out errors and all that stuff (can’t think off the top of my head lol).

That’s weird, I feel the opposite. The BMW crowd (335i crowd at least) are very analytical about the mods and power. They want the best tune and about to fine tune it themselves or have a shop do it if needed.

The audi crowd (b8 s4) seem to only accept information to be true if it’s from the big two (apr/giac)
Audi people don’t dyno their cars to back up what the tuners say and they do very minimal mods and don’t care about pricing. (Example: time for 335i =$400, a flag that can’t be changed or managed for b8 s4 =$2400)

please elaborate on the different stereotypical audi vs bmw people

Yeah my issue with BT is they limit the number of cars it works on unless you buy the pro version for $750. Also, I don’t think it does it all as you stated above. Either way, I’m just thinking that could be part of the reason the bmw crowd I’ve hung with doesn’t seem too concerned with conducting independent logging…

Maybe we hang around different crowds i.e most of the guys I speak with are M3 owners vs. 335 owners.

As for the audi crowd, in general, I’d agree that they mainly listen to the big two. That’s why I specified the AR crowd. Lol! I think this crowd is more real world independent data driven (1/4 and 60-130) vs. dyno results. Don’t get me wrong I think dyno’s are great for determining gains (via delta) it’s just where I live 3 pulls is $150 and I’d rather spend that money on mods! LOL!!

Not so much a stereotype but more general observations…

Before I go any further I’ve been in the Audi scene far longer than BMW so my observations maybe skewed toward the Audi group.

I just find that the Audi group (you guys more so than AZ) are more analytical. You seems to be more concerned with performance improvements and quantifying them through various forms (1/4 mile, 60-130, Vagcom, etc.) vs. aesthetics. Obviously, looks are still very important to the Audi group but in a more subtle way and to a lesser degree…

The BMW guys I’ve spoken to seem to be the reverse. They are more concerned with aesthetics (front lip, rear diffuser, spoilers, etc.) than outright performance. This maybe a result of their age as in general they tend to be a younger group (20-30ish). Further, they aren’t overly concerned about measuring performance independently as they usually accept company dyno figures as fact. Also, I think the lack of a reasonably priced Vagcom(ish) tools (for the BMW) maybe another reason they don’t appear as analytically inclined as the Audi group.

Overall, everyone I’ve met from both sides have been extremely friendly but I feel I gravitate more toward the Audi group mentality vs. the BMW group…

Hit up this guy for logging

http://bimmersoftware.com/products

I used that and a $100 cable for my 335i
