Clochner wore a Banana hammock in Milan?
I’m going to Italy? Sweet.
Apparently, and that’s WAY more than a 3.5 hour drive! ;D
In any case, Route 66 is closed for the year, so that leaves only GLD for the 31st. They’re open on weekends (weather permitting) until the snow flies.
I’m penciling it in. Looking forward to seeing anyone who can make it!
Really?
I might be headed back to the area myself. Hoping my interview on Monday went well enough to get the offer that will allow it.
Yeah, I got an awesome job offer so I had to take it. Are you originally from the Midwest too? I wish you the best of luck with the new job.
Ya, Chicago. Well the burbs, northwest area. And thanks man. Hope to be there soon too.
Roll call: Anyone in for Saturday the 31st or Sunday the 1st, weather and open drag strip permitting?
I’m still up for Saturday if the weather holds off. Not looking great right now.
make sure you guys PM MDUBZ…he has a reasonably quick car that would like to get out again.
supposed to rain here sat but be a bit better sun. I imagine same in Chicagoland.
The only problem is my first gear synchro is shot. I can all but guarantee I’ll be towing the car home if I go.
Why would first gear synchro be a problem here???
Maybe it won’t. I don’t know exactly what’s going on. During my last run at Milan, the shifter shot out of gear after the 60ft. and now there’s a really loud whine/moan happening as I’m driving In first gear which gets louder with speed. The transmission is also making some loud noise at about 90mph while cruising. Is this something you guys would be worried about or not? I really want to go and thinking I may just suck it up, just not looking forward to losing my car for an indefinite amount of time again and spending $5k+ to buy another transmission and ship the car to JHM again to get it installed. Decisions decisions. What do you guys think?
If you decide to get a spare transmission and rebuild it, I would recommend a .528 (TDI) 6th gear. Not if you’re going to road course it, but I built mine to do stretches of Interstate, which it now does at 25 - 26 MPG.
Soooooooo, looks like I’m out for this weekend, but for good reason:
My daughter flew in from college in CA last night to surprise me for my birthday, so I’m thinking that I’m going to spend some quality time with her this weekend.
My next best opportunity to hit the strip is Sunday November 8th, and the long-range forecast (for what those are worth) looks good, so that’s what I’m going to aim for.
You bought a JHM rebuilt transmission and it’s fucked? Or was it from somewhere else? Ask JHM for some help. I think they owe you some goodwill…you’re probably their best customer ever.
I brought my car to Chicago Performance & Tuning back in December 2011. Al sent out the transmission to Scotty@AdvancedAutomotion to get it rebuilt. I paid Scott $3000 for all new synchros and shift collars and also 3 gears were replaced. Would have to pull the receipts to be sure but I think I remember it being 2, 3, and 4. I’ve put on maybe 15k miles since then and only really launched the car that night at Milan. So I got 1 day at the track using a Scotty transmission. Take a guess if I’ll ever go back.
One of the best at least, I remember Jake saying I had the biggest finished build to date when I picked up my car last November. However, I think that RS7 guy has me beat with his RS4 build.
Either way, when I decide to pull the trigger on the transmission, the car’s going back to JHM. I also want to have Jason lay down a time in my car at the strip and it may as well be during the winter when I can’t race it out here.
Uh oh…sorry to hear that
If I recover from this stomach bug by then, I plan on heading down to no limit raceway on sunday with a few others.
Feel free to join!
I’m still planning to head to GLD tomorrow morning…
