Hello…, I am an AR noob, and, a complete Audi in general noob, but have always had a hankering for an RS4…(how could you be a car enthusiast and not?) and honestly, it is even better then anticipated. Wow! What a fun car. After my acquisition of Gus (as named by my kids), the subtle niblings for more power started becoming stronger and stronger, so much so that even though my wife was waiting in the wings with divorce papers if another bill for car goodies came across her desk, the fight just couldn’t be fought anymore. The search was on for mas boost! First up was AMD, and honestly really liked the kit in general, but wasn’t a fan of the way the owner portrayed himself on the forums so quickly decided to pass on that one. Next up was APR, definitely impressed with what they accomplished at the track, plus would be dealing with a very reputable company. They were at the top of the list until I delved further into JHM. There really isn’t much info out there regarding their stage 1 setup (rs4 trim), but during this time numerous emails were exchanged with Jake. Jake is a prince among men in the game of customer service, emails returned promptly and well thought-out and expressed responses. He provided me with a secure sense of comfort in purchasing from JHM. After the dust settled, they were easily the clear winner. Lower boost yet proven numbers, thoroughly tried and tested, the backing of a committed company, Jake’s exceptional service, potential to expand in the future, and as a bonus, priced lower then the competition. My order has been placed and I am ecstatic. Stage 1 for now as we await stage 2 to be finalized, and a lwfw/5r clutch package to harness the power. I will be doing the install myself with the help of a couple friends, or should I say there will be some qualified mechanics doing the work and I will be grunting around grabbing tools and providing moral support as needed. ;D I will document some of this process if any folks have interest, and more importantly will add a ton more (picture and video-wise) to this thread once the install is complete, the clutch has been broken in, and Gus is back on the road with the added power. I anticipate it to be truly exceptional! Also, if anyone has any suggestions or tips during the install process, I am all ears. Thanks.
Welcom you came to the right site…the good news is the stage 1 kit for the rs4 already has been tested on the b6 s4 for years. The extra rpm of the rs4 makes the vortech unit the best choice. Look at all roots or screw blowers none of them come from factory oem car makers on cars with more then 6500rpm. Also tons of jhm supercharged guys are on here. Best forum for technical information and support.
The rs4 and the vortech units are a match made in heaven. You made the best choice especially when you factor in the cost.
How could there be? It isn’t even officially released yet. There wasn’t much on the S4 kit either. I would say the JHM kit has just as much video/documentation as anyone else.
is there a ton of documentation or videos about any of the kits? Apr made a dragstrip video. Great, so did JHM 7 months ago. So did amd . So did TTS 2 years ago.
Want some Dyno sheets? You already know how that’s going to go. JHM won’t show them. Apr who are normally dyno champions haven’t shown theirs either. Nor has AMD because they couldn’t get the numbers they wanted and focused on dragstrip performance instead. TTS and MRC have posted theirs.
So I don’t really know what documentation there could be.
JHM is making an installation guide. That’s the biggest holdup and the reason until now they weren’t taking orders for DIY or other shop installs. That wanted half a dozen local cars or so running for a while before letting someone in florida or England install a kit. The install guide is huge and very thorough and will be included for those who don’t live near JHM.
There’s a pretty long list who have been waiting for the go-ahead for DIY/external installs. Going to be pretty fun to watch them start showing up on forums.
Weird part is it’s tons of quiet guys who haven’t posted before…then they end up with full exhaust and a supercharger.
Why is everyone sounding so but hurt like I am attacking JHM lol. I am simply stating that it will be exciting to actually hear some reviews and see some videos from a customer. Considering they have 6-12? of these running around probably I am just surprised there have not been more videos or pulls or fly byes.
I asked a question…what are you looking for, documentation wise or video wise?
Nobody is butt hurt. Maybe Flying Tomatoes is because he locked down his instagram. Other than that…not sure. I can’t answer for EuroSwagr, but he doesn’t seem butt hurt.
Just seemed like a defensive post. Im looking for exactly what I posted, some videos of pulls against other cars, fly byes, 60-130 etc. Basically what Axel has provided us.
I’m definitely not butt hurt. I was simply stating that there is almost nothing out there for any of the kits except dragstrip passes, not just the JHM kit.
Most customers are probably on beta files still and have some kind of agreement not to release a boat load of info…well…before JHMs actual release of the product. Axel provided everything well after the release to the public.
You should also know that 60-130 isn’t some great feat here…and most guys don’t care about it.
So as it stands for the few companies with a kit…
We have 0-130 (nearly) on video with sound
We have a thread dedicated to some of the different kit specifications, thanks to Saki and representatives from the company’s (Arin, Jonathan Cohen)
That seems like a pretty decent amount of info. JHM has tons of Facebook pictures of installed kits too.
Races against other cars are cool to watch, but don’t mean squat truthfully. What if the other driver sucks, or is a friend and let’s you murder him so you can say how great the kit is?
Fly bys with the centri kit will sound like an RS4…it will just fly by faster, haha
Fly bys with the top mounts will have a whine combined with an RS4 exhaust note
Now I’m thinking, why would a fly by video make you any more likely to choose that kit. It is almost like comparing how the rollers sound on the dyno video.
Thanks much for the warm reception. It is nice to share the excitement. Yes, as far as I know this will be the 1st kit installed on an rs4 outside JHM world headquarters, although Jake would know better regarding that.
I definitely plan to share thoughts, pictures, and videos once it is installed. While JHM has provided documentation on this and the stage 2, none of the others owners running this kit are on the forums so there is no actual easily accessible info from the owners themselves…or it might be as euro says and they have an agreement not to release info yet? (Although, supposedly that should be changing shortly as someone on the forums is having a kit currently installed at JHM. Excited to hear their thoughts!) I don’t know about 60-130 times, I am getting a little old to be playing with fire on the streets and besides my other car runs it in 5.8 and that is enough of a thrill for me! I definitely will run it at the track though. I have done some drag racing in the past, and have to admit, am excited to show up and not have to mount drag radials or slicks this time around. Thumbs up for awd! Also, plan to road course it some as the schedule allows.
^very cool and best of luck. But be prepared for the possibly hiccup or two. It’s not the most complicated thing in the world, but there are a lot of man hours in the install and some tedious parts for a first timer.
What “other car” you got that runs a 5.8 in the 60-130? That’s scootin along haha. Any 1/4 with it?
