Should be the other way around
Yes it should, good info doesn’t get lost or go unappreciated on AR. AZ is another story, you’ll find your great info somewhere in between “how is my stance yo” and “where can I get the cheapest exhaust possible” threads
…haha, it definitely has gone that way as of recent and makes me wonder how old some of these owners are. In all honesty, that thread is my “tool” to the B6/7 S community; whatever I learned from basic DIY work to major work like timing-related projects, it’s my way of repaying the help I’ve gotten from the knowledgeable veteran members.
On a different note, I got a chance to drive Jimmy’s S/C’d “Silver Bullet” yesterday to get a feeling of the R-series clutch combo and woa, what a completely transformed car. The linear power of the V8 backed by some boost is such a great feeling, especially when I got on it for a bit during the small stretch of straightaway. Haha, dare I say it…felt much more smoother and instantaneous than a STG2 Or STG3 B5 S. The headers, short shifter linkage and R-series clutch threw me for a loop though, had me feeling like a newb. I jerked from first to second on the side streets because I didn’t expect all that low-end torque to be transferred to pavement that quickly. It also solidified my reasoning to go with the JHM STG4 clutch/pp package instead of R-series, driving through DC morning commute would be like an everyday leg workout.
Karma points to Jimmy for allowing me to drive his race car, I can only imagine how that thing reacts on the track.
I’ve just noticed in your signature you owned a stage 2 b5. Your first hand experience clearly says something about how much different the V8 is. I’ve always felt my S5 even with it’s smaller V8 that’s it got some good tq. I can only imagine how much more tq headers and a blower would add.
TOTALLY different; boosted tq is like firing pin hitting the primer and bullet goes “POW” whereas the linear tq just pulls hard and then keeps pulling until you let off or your limiter kicks in. Jimmy’s S/C S4 combined the two differences and just made this majestic mesh of power/tq.
I mean if I continued modding the Avant, the S/C route WOULD be the way to go (or the JHM Nitrous kit).
I personally like the long continual growth of tq. If I wanted the 500rpm power curve of a b5 I’d go by a Honda put a big turbo on it save thousands of dollars and have a car that runs.
Slow has been on the dark side and now on the…I don’t know what the other side is called in star wars. V8+ boost=win V8+nitrous=big grin every time
Evening gents, just an update; some of you will probably groan, while others will think “WTF?”.

EDiT:
Those rotors are f**king heavy!!! ;D
Was there a big price difference between those rotors and the jhm lw rotors? Just curious.
About $1000?
JHM slotted front/rear: 650+550
PowerStop cross-drilled/slotted from RockAuto: 120+85
I’m not planning on doing any serious track work so my reasoning for the x-drilled slotted is purely cosmetic. I originally wanted just slotted rotors because I’ve read about x-drills cracking under pressure and hard use but not many distributors offer JUST slotted. When I found these in comparison to the JHM, ECS, Adams, and some other site, they seemed too good to be true. I googled about them and read the reviews; seemed like the people who bought them are mainly DDers with some reviews about track runs.
Point is, if they crack, they crack and I’ll just go back to OEM rotors as a lesson learned.
Stock rotors are about the same price aren’t they? Maybe a hair more. I was shocked how cheap stock S4 rotors were in the real world (vs. the dealership world). The RS4 rotors are another story. Best price you can find anywhere for 2 fronts is about $800.
OEM Front Rotors from GAP: 105 x2
OEM Rear Rotors from GAP: 79 x2
Comes out to about 360, about $150 more than what I paid to RockAuto
what’s GAP? The Gap? Thought they sold boring shirts and shorts with too many pockets on them?
;D
Genuine Audi Parts
You can never have too many pockets…
Slow: Wow, those are cheap! Hopefully they hold up for you!
I finally got the chance to breakdown my package from JHM and GAP. As a DIY enthusiast, I think the guides are one of the coolest parts of our engine. It was pretty friggin neat to see how simplistic yet sturdy it could be. I mean ya it’s heavy duty plastic but I kinda now understand the decision to go with something soft yet sturdy versus metallic.

The JHM mechanical adjuster is just cool in itself to look at, haha.

Hard to believe that this (or all 40 of them) might be the root of all that’s evil in my Avant…oil consumption.

What’s in the box, you might ask…

I will be using it as my core while my original gets the JHM treatment. Its a dirty little f**ker so I plan on cleaning it out this weekend, manifold AND throttle body; might even consider painting it baby blue [:D].
Nice! Im saving up my pennies now for a JHM intake manifold. After the winter im hoping to have it. Did you ever try deustche auto parts? Thier website doesnt have shit listed but if you call they can get anything cheap. Just curious.
I wanna know how the Manifold pulls on the top end. Im hoping its a noticeable change. Look forward for the update
(You goin to h2o?)
I did browse through Deutsche Auto Parts and there wasn’t much to offer. I was sorta thrown off by the “turbo + assoc” listing…is there something the site knows about that we don’t? ;D
And yes, I will be at H2O; frat-sharing a townhouse with some local guys. You know Piotr, correct? I was hoping to get last years place with him, Johnny and a few other guys but things fell through. I did give him info on a townhouse, just a few homes down but they already found a spot down by the boardwalk.
Hehe, our house will be full of B6/7s; Jimmy’s S/C B6 S4, my B6 S4 Avant, Rob’s B6 S4 Cab and Johnny’s BT A3 to list a few.
Hopefully Bud can make it out there with the C6 S6 or his dad’s RS4 cab.
It’s always exciting to get fresh car parts. What’s the one part that you said might have something to do with the oil consumption?
