Teaser: APR 3.0 TFSI Stage III Supercharger System

You know what might be a great idea if you want to try. Get the 2010 dsg ecu. You should be able to plug that into your 2014 and that should in theory fix your shifting issues. With all the other things your looking into that just might be the best solution.

That doesn’t sound like a good idea. No way it’s that simple.

Wonder if this is one of the reasons APR has been taking so long as well.

What’s torque spread?

Is that their way of talking about the curve?

If so that’s not the issue. The 1740 makes considerably more torque at every single rpm.

Don’t forget that mrc tried a rotrex unit that TTS (British SC company) used on the RS4 kit. It was nicely mated to the rs4 because that particular blower thrives on high rpms…but isn’t very torque focused.

On a 4.2 litre v8 that makes considerable torque everywhere on its own, and that revs to 8200 rpm, that’s a perfect match.

On a small 3.0 v6 that is only built to Rev to 7k, that would feel gutless most of the time.

I’m actually surprised they chose that. Seems rather poorly chosen. If it was a cheap and easy test sure. Good on them to admit the mistake (and to test on their own car)

To be honest as the Apr financials story gets more legs I think it’s clear why these projects aren’t moving forward.

Very true saki about the financial points.

I’m not familiar with the various types of chargers and was hoping someone with more knowledge would comment. I am assuming torque spread is the English verbiage for torque curve.

Sounds like it.

APR just posted that they’ve shunted the RS5 supercharger kit for various time/money reasons. So far we have seen the 1740 released on the RS4 right? That’s it?

On the forums, we have seen

  1. a car they used to test the supercharger 6 months ago…which is back at APR? Why is it at APR still (or back at APR?) Is something wrong with the car or is the owner just lending it to them for a long time?

  2. flying tomatoes - his car appears to be running well, but to be honest, I don’t think you’d hear the truth if something went wrong

  3. meem - his motor blew within a month of installing the kit.

The R8 I have no idea about. The B8 S4 seems to have been shelved. The RS5 is confirmed shelved.

There are also rumours of angry 2.0T big turbo people shouting about APR right now. A number of blown motors, some related to calibration issues. Not to mention the people who are upset about the 2014 stage 1 and stage 2 B8 S4 tuning.

Maybe the new head calibrator Eric Urness isn’t such a tuning guru after all. Ever since he arrived at APR, things have been going badly.

Wow,

When outlined like that there are a number of major issues.

What car did meem have?

RS4.

Yeah, it doesn’t seem too terrible until you amass all of the issues across the different platforms and start to see the big picture. I didn’t realize they were having issues with their big turbo stuff, I was always under the impression that it was a pretty bullet proof kit (assuming you mean stg3 and not something custom).

That RS4 that they did all the testing on in the videos, was GRD Tunning’s car. Last time I talked to them in the spring they said they were getting the car back soon, and going to sell. Which I think they were going to ask WAY to much money for $55,000. They said they were going to sell it to buy a RS7 or a new RS4 can’t remember.

^^ Are you referring to Genesis Racing here in Chicago?

There’s also an unimpressed Stage 3 TTRS owner. I’ll let him decide if he wants to post his experience here.

Meem’s engine? Ouch. Did he ever make a public post about it? I’ve always had great admiration for his attention to detail and how well he’s maintained his vehicles over the years.

Dave

meem did not. I posted a thread about it and he responded very ambiguously.
