Last night at work me and a few friends were talking and an interesting situation popped up. With lots of the people getting taxes back several people mentioned that they had about $200 extra, that they could just do whatever with. So, the question. If you had $200 extra to just spend on yourself what would you get? At first it sounds like an easy question, but to me it seemed to get harder when thinking about what you would get. $200 to me is an in-between amount of money. It’s not enough for the “big” things and seems to sit in a odd spot for what you can get.

So with that. What would you get? It just can’t be something you already have.

Good question. It’s definitely in-between money. I’d probably look for a deal on last year’s model of the Nike drivers. If not that, then something else for golf - perhaps a new 60 degree wedge and a re-grip of all my irons.

Smart choice would be to spend it on the gf

But it could also buy:

External HDD
Nice bottle of scotch
Detail car
Tickets to a sports game
Random craigslist deal
Cheap flight somewhere
New shoes

try to do a value chain on craigslist or kijiji.

Find something grossly undervalued and buy it. Sell it for fair value and use the proceeds to find something else grossly undervalued. See how far you can go. The famous story is of that kid doing this for a couple of years and ending up with a high mileage Porsche Boxster after starting with an iPod.

Definitely pocket money. That’s what I take out of the ATM when I get cash.

More than that would go into a bank account.

I just picked up a whole bunch of 7.62x39 at Wal-Mart because they lifted the “3 boxs of ammo per person” limit rule.

For $200 I would probably put it towards a budget supercharged nova project I would like to start ;D

Probably some more tools. You can never have enough specialty tools for common annoying tasks.

Things like plucking those annoying “sleeved” plastic fasteners that a flat screwdriver sucks for. Or some odd shaped pliers that make removing stuck hoses a breeze.

Or maybe something to make my life easier like a flat roll garden hose or some sort of easy rollup thing for compressed air hoses.

Basically something that I’d probably keep around for a long time and get some good utility out of.

Haha yeah, the whole top half my safe is filled with 7.62 boxes (roughly a 1000 rounds) so I should be good for a while since I don’t shoot as often as I used to. I have a decent amount of .223 and .556 as well.

$200 - I’d probably go and see the Leafs/Red Wings at the Joe on the 18th. My wife said it was a pretty rocking atmosphere for the preseason game there.

$100 on 10 $10 scratch offs & $100 on your girl

Give $100 to a (insert anything here) friend, family member, stranger in need)) that you know could use the small token in your world but would end up being a larger relief in their world. The other $100 on your favorite hobby.

$200 in ammo is always a solid option
$200 in gold is probably still a solid investment

I would fab up a table to hold a engine, transmission, and subframe. Like the factory special tool table with adjustable height arms and it would be able to slide apart so I can separate the transmission from the engine.

10 various “presents” I bought for the RS4 that were under $200, in no particular order…

  1. Interior LED’s
  2. First aid kit (mine was missing)
  3. Foam gun, miscellaneous detailing supplies
  4. Air filter, cabin filter, fuel filter, oil change
  5. Used JHM piggies (although I have not installed yet)
  6. Bentley electronic manual and used ACER netbook (Windoze XP) w/ car charger
  7. About to buy a new battery this weekend
  8. Brushed aluminum switchgear for the seat controls
  9. R8 oil and coolant caps
  10. Replacement wipers

I’d probably put it towards ebay S6 mirror caps.
