I thought it’d be nice to have a dedicated thread to post up progress in other platforms, new cars that are to come out, and legit builds. I know we all look to other platforms for their achievements and even for possibly your next car, so post em up as you see them.
I’ll start it off with two that are quite impressive to me.
First the 335/135 have really taken some big leaps lately. No one is really sure where the stock limits of the motor is, but someone is going to figure out soon enough. Either way, it’s pretty impressive how things stand right now.

[QUOTE=Terry @ BMS;213119]Hey guys,
Great weather at Famoso today and the car is running strong. Our first run just happened to set a new world record for both MPH and ET stock turbo no nitrous, 11.3@125! :happy
Later in the day on a harder launch the car ran 11.2@123. Another new ET record!
Mods are the same as the 8.57 60-130 VBOX times, only with a 30# lighter driver and straight race gas. All launches were done in 2nd gear as traction was limited as usual. :burnrubber:

[QUOTE=Terry @ BMS;213329]I was cutting 1.6 60’ times before and after. If I could do it all over again I’d probably pass on it. I’m sure it’s a must have for road racing but I use this car more like a drag car.

Rear & passenger seats are out, so I know some people knock that. But I still think it’s a big accomplishment for stock turbo’s, stock motor, and a obviously great driver.
It also looks like the long time work of the single turbo conversion on the 335 is finally coming to light. I know we don’t hold much stock in dyno plots over here. But I’m sure the bmw guys will tear them up if it’s a sham a lot faster than the audi guys do, and the bmw guys obviously like the 1/4.

Original dyno/info thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=646950
Hi guys,
The last few days have been a bit hectic. We did the following maintenance work to our 82,000 mile old test car:
- Intake valve cleaning (walnut shell blasting at dealership)
- New DME harness (original one was a mess from 6 years of development/testing).
- New rear o2 sensors (Universal Bosch sensors @ 75/each)
- New spark plugs (previous ones were 10,000 miles old)
- New fuel injectors (replacing the originals which had 82,000 miles of use)
The last item, in particular, made a huge difference. For some reason, the production date of our car (03/06) made it ineligible for the big fuel injector recall last year. But recently I started noticing a miss during very light load at 2500-3000rpm. Not bad enough to trigger any codes but bad enough to notice if you paid attention. This also caused fuel adaptions on bank 1 to get wacky, racketing up to 22% at times. The tech at the dealer was surprised to see original injectors on such a high mileage car, suggesting that they all go bad by 60k miles. So i went ahead and replaced all the injectors earlier this morning. And what a difference it made! The car drove much smoother and the light throttle hiccups were gone! The car felt more powerful as well which meant it was time to go back to the dyno (Dynojet at DNR Performance, Hayward CA).
And she did well! Especially considering that the current Procede firmware limits boost to a maximum of 20psi. Over the next few days, we’ll raise this value to 23psi (limit of stock MAP sensor). But even at 20psi, the old girl made a whopping 585whp. And now that the Procede is controlling boost so nicely, I implemented an gradually upward sloping boost curve. The relatively low boost target at 4000rpm resulted in minimal driveline stress and surprisingly good traction on the street. And the gradually upward sloping boost from then up to 6000rpm kept the torque curve nice and flat which got us the big power number. With a simple firmware revision (with higher max allowable boost), we should keep this ramping up to 6800rpm (21-21.5psi) which should give us the 600whp we are after. But that is not for another few days.
Some dyno runs from tonight:

Some observations:
-
Our Procede-controlled upgrade fuel system is working well. This upgrade does no involve additional injectors. Nor crazy amounts of methanol injection. With it in its current state of tune, there are no signs of nearby fuel system limitation. Fuel rail pressure is spot on as well (see datalog). Clearly, any claims of the DI system having injector on-time limitations is unfounded as well. As are claims of the factory DME code bottlenecks. Funny how quickly misinformation spreads.
-
The stock cylinder head flows well! We are making nearly 17hp per psi of absolute pressure. That is rocking! Much better than an FBO car running stock turbos at max efficiency at just 5psi. So much for the naysayers
-
The reasonable low boost pressures in the midrange makes the car far less octane sensitive than running 20psi from 4000rpm on up. This is probably why we are getting away with running just 93oct plus meth.
-
Compared to upgraded twin turbos (RB/ASR) set-ups running the same 20psi of boost, this single turbo system:
- Makes another ~80-100whp up top.
- Doesn’t smoke out the tailpipe
- Doesn’t fill up the catch can with any oil
- Doesn’t whine/whistle/howl
- Does having any wastegate rattle
- Sounds a hell of a lot better with no low end exhaust drone
- Isn’t nearly as octane sensitive which means larger margin of safety even at higher power levels.
- Feels heaps “happier” and offers faster boost response above 4000rpm (which is where you would want to be if your having fun anyway).
- Isn’t misfire prone AT ALL. Not even once.
- Runs a less aggressive ignition advance curve
This upcoming week, we should have the Procede firmware revised to allow up to 23psi of max boost. Although we should only need 21-21.5psi to make our goal of 600whp.
And after that, we target 700whp!
Exciting times for N54 tuning. It’s about time these engines made some serious power!
Cheers,
Shiv

I’m also excited to see some of the new AMG (and even non AMG models come out due to their switch from NA to twin turbo. Even the new E550 is going to be a 4.6L TT stock making 400/420, but a simple remap should take that to the 550/600 range (crank).
The new M3 is also going to a forced induction platform, with supposedly ~450hp. But the gains seen in the 335 and the X5/6M (and soon to be M5 with it’s new V8TT motor similar to X5/6M) should mean that number will jump very very quickly when it hits the tuners hands.

Looks pretty good! K04 cars can get into 8-9sec 60-130 range around 420WHP +. I would say its very comparable to very healthy Stage 3 B5’s.
A lot of K04 cars that are not maxed out, see 11-13sec 60-130’s.
wonder what a stock B7 RS4 would do. I have a pbox. I just don’t have a get out of jail free card.
I hear Mexico is nice at this time of year.
Nothing new but do domestics count? After my first dragstrip experience in Cayuga, the only other wagon there was some sort of Dodge Magnum. I can’t find the actual car that I gawped at in the lane next to me, but V8, 420hp-ish, ok not AWD but still a 4 seater wagon. Ok not as classy as Audi but still… anyway here’s one poster’s time at Cayuga:

I guess I just have a thing for fast wagons. Carry on…
Plus owning a mk6 GTI, I’ve been keeping an eye on the transverse 2.0T scene. The pissing match between the usual suspects (GIAC, Revo, APR) has not been unlike the 3.0T forum warz. I question the ethics of arin@APR maintaining the Vortex 1/4 mile list but at least they’re asking for timeslips. The top few are garbage (100AKI and/or seats removed), but this one caught my eye:
[quote]2011/06/30 - 12.261@112.42 - FWD - 6MT - GTI MK5 - BW K04-64 - APR - 93 AKI - SpaceJayce

Essentially pump gas, street tyres, K04, APR tune. Not bad for a little grocery getter.
Not sure why this hasn’t translated into monster gains on the 2.0T longitudinal platform, but here’s some of the lulz: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/471237-2-0t-a4-1-4-time

yeah the LX scene is pretty big, and the SRT8s are a mean motor as much as it pains me to compliment a Mopar lol
other domestics to consider for this thread:
Ford Coyote 5.0 V8
Ford Ecoboost 3.5 V6TT
5th Gen SBC soon (fingers crossed)
Reserved post for some badass fords…here’s a coyote to start with
!!!
oh wow, that is quite nutty
That one is nothing compared to this one. Notice the LA on this car…looks familiar

Yea, american muscle certainly counts. I meant to include the new Mustang’s in my first couple posts but ran out of town. But the advancements in that platform have been truly nutty! (in a good way for them) It’d be tough to own a mustang, but this last model really is a different animal.
Joe. . . those launches are just nuts. .
man that looks loose and scary to run beside. Let him go. That’s one of those slips where I have a 4 second reaction time because I just let them get half way down the track before I go so I don’t need to worry about them. See the first run? He near hits the lane marker AND the wall. The first vid you posted, the driver seemed way better. Straighter and shifts were epic. Making way less power but driven like a champ.
p.s. why do those cars go to the dragstrip? Don’t they know they’re supposed to do 60-130 once they get above 400 whp?
Yeah the stock suspension is a little loose from the factory on the new mustangs so they are hard to keep in a straight line on 10 second passes. I wonder why they run these cars with stock suspension?
Lethal performance is like the JHM of the Mustang world. They buy all of their shop cars brand new, test parts on them before the consumer ever sees it, and makes epic no-bullshit videos to prove their shit performs.
I swear if something on my car goes bad and I need to ditch it, I’ll be driving a mustang. Not a new one since their so expensive. A nicely equipped 5.0 is barely under 40k.
you want a soft rear end so you dont get axle hop… are the new rustangs IFS? That could be the issue right there.
You mean IRS? The new ones are still live axle, even the Shelby. The 2014’s are getting IRS
yeah IRS I mean, been spending too much time on the jeep forums
