The Competition

I knew mustangs would come up in this thread soon enough. The new 5.0s are awesome engines IMHO. My roommate has a '12 boss 302 and that thing is balls out ridiculous. I know the outdated axle thing is always brought up, but that thing handles amazingly from what I experienced. While I would never get one myself, I’d love to have a car that I sit in, drive and think to myself “I don’t need to mod this”.

^^^lots of bench racers love to put down the technology without driving the car or looking at the actual results. It usually leads to being embarassed when your textbooks and equations let you down, and the car you picked on kills it on the road/track/strip.

There are a couple of companies that took shots at JHM for using a centrifugal supercharger in online forums. Unfortunately for them JHM is destroying them in just about every single performance category on every car they’ve touched.

yeah its funny seeing people take digs at old technology, just because its old… pushrod motors being the classic example

the LSx motors are great and proven and all but it seems time has caught up. when you see what these coyotes are doing with similar mods its just insane.

yeah but figure the gen 4 ls’s have been out for quite some time, look to the gen 5 to put overhead cam motors back in their place lol

I’m thinking the pushrod motors are pretty stout out of the box and still have a lot of life in them. The supercharged ZR1 is simply incredible bang for the buck performance :o

Yeah pushrods are awesome for bang for your buck mods. I mean…1 cam and you pick up insane power and get a dirty lope to go with it. I personally wish they didn’t go VVT on the new motors.

the vvt is letting you have a bigger cam and still have a decent idle, same reason ohc motors have vvt… ever drive a non-vvt ohc motor? Theyre dogs.

From an OEM’s standpoint vvt is a win win, more power, better driveability, no sacrifice… they have no reason not to use vvt really.

The lope is cool, but I’d rather have the vvt and an even bigger cam and still have acceptable vacuum. Driving a car with a massive lope can be a hastle if you still have vac assisted accessories (ie your brakes stop working)

Speaking of pushrods, ZR1’s are hitting 10.4 at 134 mph with just drag radials.

I love C6 vettes. Great article in Road and Track this month, doing a thorough ass road test of every Vette currently for sale. Vette, Vette Cab, Grand Sport, Grand Sport Cab, Z06, ZR1

Personally it’s the Z06 that catches my eye. ZR1 is awesome and all, but something about that LS7 (well named) making all motor power and the widebody…fucking awesome. THey had one of the 100th anniversary cars at the Toronto Auto Show last week. Black, and excellent looking. Had Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires on it. Standard tires lol.

yeah I’ve always loved the Z06 the most, drove one a few years ago and it was absurd for a stock car

the GTR and the Z06 are the greatest deals in the world. GTR is a better car, but I’d pick a Z06 9 times out of 10. The 10th time, when I picked the GTR, would be from checking the wrong checkbox.

^I sat in a GTR yesterday as my buddy’s dealership has it on consignment. I was a bit depressed at the cabin space based on the size of the car from the outside. The backseat is just there for insurance and groceries, which is fine by me, but the drivers seat even seemed a bit cramped for me.

Truly an impressive car though, and the new one is even more balls to the wall. The seating position in the vette’s is also a bit weird to me. Seems like a very “relaxed” seating position and takes away some of the connection to the car & road imo.

I agree about the seats in the vette. The seats aren’t aggressive enough and the cushion is weird. I think the s4 recars are 9x better than the vette seats. But that’s been something the corvette has always been weak on.

Around where i live, corvettes are all driven by AARP members who probably wouldn’t care if the seats were lawn chairs.

Do we know if Jdubya ever picked up a Z06? He parted/sold the s4 in a hurry to get one and we never heard from him.

the new 100th anniversary Z06 has solid seats. Sat in it at the auto show.

speaking of competition. the TT-RS is officially beast.

The TTRS’s are going to be insane once the quirks in the aftermarket are fixed and production parts are released.

strangely, for a 3200 lb car making 600 hp at the crank, it only ran 60-130 in about 9 seconds. Frankly that’s shit for those numbers.

maybe the B5 guys will chime in.

(have a look at APR’s youtube to see the video)

cant wait to see what it runs

^^ Didn’t realise stock TTRS is 12.6 @ 109 (http://www.roadandtrack.com/tests/car/2012-audi-tt-rs). Holy schmokes!
