The Competition

iirc the dsg ones with launch control were like low 12 with 113ish trap

yeah that R&T test was probably the slowest one

however the car and driver 12.1 @ whatever and 0-60 in 3.6 seconds appears to be a crock…typical when you use a personal use performance meter on a ‘flat section’ of a racetrack rather than going to a dragstrip.

the car makes about 290-295 whp/wtq and weighs around 3200 lbs…but the car & driver numbers appear to be a bit ambitious, DSG or not.

I know this is an all out build, but I still thought it was pretty worthwhile mentioning as that trap shows the car was REALLY moving, and one of the first E46 M3’s to really do something impressive at the track, especially considering the number of big dyno claims on the HPF M3’s.

Pretty impressive hearing the tires chirp on even the 3-4 shift lol.

[quote] Well, here it is, an E46 M3 in the 10’s in the United States. To note, an E46 in Sweden did run 10.71 but that was not a strip with NHRA approved timing equipment. Regardless, this is the first true 10 second M3 in the USA with a 10.89@141. Tuning was handled by ProEFI and the hardware was built by Saad Racing. This breaks the record HPF held but we expect this record to be retaken by HPF shortly. Of note, this is a full interior street car.

Specs:

Full Interior Daily Driven M3
Full ProEFI ECU Package on Flex Fuel
Saad Racing built Engine
Saad Racing Fuel System
Saad Racing Ignition System, featuring ProEFI Lightning Coils
Saad Racing intake manifold
Saad Racing Turbo System, featuring Precision 67-66 turbocharger
Tuned by Jason Siebels at ProEFI
Driven by Saad N. Saad of Saad Racing

Wow that this certainly moves out, it is only .05 seconds faster than JHM’s B5 S4 and that was with a dodgy TB…can you imagine what it will do when that is fixed and the tuned polished.

I was under the impression that en E46 in the 10’s was a regular occurrence. I thought the HPF cars do that in their sleep. Guess I never took the time to actually look it up.

Pretty impressive…although I always though they were much faster. B5’s for the win. And soon, built 4.2’s…

HPF have just never been able to hook up at all. There 60-120 times are nuts (and their heads up roll races as well), and they make the power, they just can’t do it down low at all.

But I was pretty impressed by that trap most of all, especially since they did it right with full interior vs stripped out etc.

nope, they run 12s and blame the track.

what did it have for tire? I was under the impression you couldnt fit much for a tire so that was part of their issue

they have had a couple in the low 11s, but they mostly run 12.2 @ 126 kind of numbers

E46 M3s can have some pretty good tires out back. It just seems the kits are poorly designed/tuned, so power waits waits waits then comes on like a ton of bricks and takes the car by surprise.

Hell stock tire C63 guys with headers/catless/exhaust/tune run better times than many of the HPF cars. HPS M3 = Tial B5 S4…tons of power, tons of trouble making good use of it where it matters (under 100 mph)

Any of you guys see this yet?

…I’m impressed!

crazy how fast cars are

The 335’s are going to be way fast with the single turbos as well, vishnu is making over 600 wheel on the stock block and this summer he will have some kind of 10 second pass I would assume!

Wow, low 12’s with just basic mods is incredible.

That is like the 335 they go like crazy…

careful…we all assumed LAST YEAR he would have had that 10 second pass. That project looks interesting but it’s all dynos and lots of teasing so far. Just post a fucking time already.

I bet they’ve been to the strip and ran 11.7 @ 126 or something, so they’re working on a bunch of shit. Happens all the time. Shops like that who splash a dyno around have almost ALWAYS gone to the dragstrip already. Dynos sell to noobs…1/4 mile passes make your accomplishments go viral across the entire car forum internet. They’ve been…they’re just not happy with the result yet so they’re not telling us.

^I dunno, but I don’t really think that’s the case. The single turbo build hasn’t been going on for very long. I think it just started ~6 months ago for that company. My understanding was that the Dyno plot shown was one of the first times they got it on the dyno, and had just begun tuning it. It was 91oct +meth, and now are tuning for more area under the curve. Now will that happen? Possibly, but if anything, I bet the ET isn’t killer but the trap surpasses your guess by a few mph at least.

And heck, the RB turbo’s as mentioned have run 11.1@129 on just modified stock turbo’s as I understand. So that’s really moving out for somewhat minimal mods when looking at “builds”.

HPF has had a customer’s car for 3+ years though for a single turbo project and it still isn’t done! Guess they just really don’t care, pretty shitty to be that customer b/c when he sent the car to them it was in the mid $40k range at least, now you can pick 335’s up in the $20k’s.

I think your memory is betraying you. This has been going on for quite a while. Don’t forget 6 months ago was October…

I’ll ask you this…if JHM had a car dyno’d 18 months ago (that’s when the first single turbo N54 dyno was, and I believe you were the one who posted it) you really think they’d be playing in the lab for 6 months and not driving it? And not hitting Sac?

Here’s one of the first ones. Still no timeslips though

Oh sorry for the confusion. I was referencing this current kit specifically. Just like the Audi scene, the BMW scene is plagued with tuners that can get quick easy results out of a factory F.I. car, but not necessarily are impressive tuners or anything special. From what I understand, “Shiv” is kinda the king in the BMW 335 tuning world right now, so I was referencing the kit that they just started building late last year.

So in short, there are a lot of EPL/AMD/PES people that we saw in the B6/7 world which promised lots and deliver only marginal gains. In the 335 world, those people are creating impressive gains, but impressive gains are to be had by simply turning up boost.

I know we’re not very trusting in dyno’s, but imo if you look at just the hardware and engine capabilities, it’s making serious power. 500whp is 100+ less than claimed, and still would be impressive in my book for a bone stock motor, especially frustrating knowing the limitations our motor has.

And, JHM was on the dyno a year+ (heck almost 2) before we ever saw a 1/4 time from them. Granted they only released a sneak peak video when they were close and little info with no “claims” or “dyno sheets”, and just waited till they had a 1/4 time to back up their performance. I think we all like that style of doing it, but they’re build has taken quite a while for due reasons.

well, Audi’s B5 S4 was good for up to 500 whp on the stock motor…the B8 S4 appears to be comfortable getting close to that once they go stage III…the B7 RS4 and B8 S4 4.2 FSI (high revving and normal) are both very comfortable with 500 whp.

That’s not really a breakthrough…
