The Concert Thread

^ Love me some Dinosaur Jr! Band named Built to Spill is pretty good and in the same spirit. Caught them local last year. Very impressed.

Jerry Garcia. The Grateful Dead…

Thanks for the reminder. Might have been less than 100% coherent at times in those days. I did remember Vedder climbing the stage the though. And Ministry’s stage setup freaked me out during nightfall. Intense. Butthole Surfers, Gibby on stage with them and others that day. Either singing or just spinning on stage making an ass of himself. Fun to experience at the time.

Want to say that the lineup was not always the same back then. I think possibly the Beastie Boys (maybe Cypress Hill) were a side stage and also Jesus and the Mary Chain?

Another great lineup I caught back in the day was Blind Melon, Soundgarden and Neil Young at World Music Theater in Tinley Park, IL. Awesome random mix.

Oh, and Blues Traveler was incredible the first 10 years or so. Actually saw Dave Matthews band open for them at the State Palace theatre in New Orleans.

Tough to list top 5 attended concerts; take a shot:

  1. Pink Floyd (Superdome)
  2. Jane’s Addiction (Phoenix)
  3. Widespread Panic (Tipitina’s)
  4. Grateful Dead (many)
  5. My Morning Jacket (Fillmore, New Years Eve show)

Very difficult to qualify and frankly that 92 lollapalooza might have topped them all but Floyd was badass.

See, that list is shot. Cannot leave out first concert ever attended, RUSH Power windows tour, followed by Hold Your Fire tour, Presto tour. Interest waivered a bit following release of Roll the Bones. Most recently, Timepieces tour. Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughs final show at Alpine Valley, dozens of Allman Brothers Band shows, Van Morrison at the Hollywood Bowl. Farm Aids. Beck was awesome!

Memories…Ha!

Good list of shows you’ve seen. Kudos.

If I were a betting man…irrespective of the odds…I’d lay a wager that David Gilmour shows up to play that show at coachella or whatever it’s being called. The weekend with Who, Stones, Dylan, Young and McCartney

Speaking of, I’d love to see McCartney, just because he’s so damn important musically.

You have to see your favourites before they die.

Next concert I need to make happen is Maiden.

p.s. Porch was the song playing. That was the song Eddie would always wander off and climb the rafters on. In Toronto he just wandered around the back and sides of the stage waving to the crowd last week. I pointed to a ladder running up the stage to the lighting rigs when he came to our side of the stage and he laughed. Pretty cool for me.

Partial list of bands I have seen in concert:

Metallica (x6)
Megadeth (x2)
Joe Satriani
G3 a couple of times (best was Satch/Vai/Petrucci)
Pantera & White Zombie show (great that I got this in prior to DD’s murder)
Slayer & Biohazard (but the guys I was with didn’t care to see Biohazard so I only caught Biohazard’s last song which didn’t sit with me too well)
Godsmack
Heart (x2)
Headstones (x50) but a lot of those are more “gigs” than “concerts”
Aerosmith
Ozzfest (1996 at Copps Coliseum; Zakk Wylde had JUST left and I didn’t know. Thought I was gonna see him. Was PISSED. Rob Trujillo was Ozzy’s bassist that night. I didn’t know who he was back then but I can vividly recall a dark skinned black hair in braids thick guy kinda crouching on bass. That’s him haha) But Danzig and Sepultura opened. Sepultura was amazing.
Suicidal Tendencies
Soundgarden
Limp Bizkit
Dave Matthews (x2) (Going to a Dave Matthews show is amazing for girl watching. There are droves of 20-something girls dressed as hot as they can possibly dress because they all hope Dave Matthews will notice them and want to fuck them back stage after the show)
Maroon 5
Linkin Park
King’s X
Dream Theater
Rik Emmett
I Mother Earth
Collective Soul
Beastie Boys
Smashing Pumpkins
David Wilcox
etc etc

Plus a billion small local gigs featuring independent acts. Those can be so good if you get the right band. Glueleg comes to mind. Gargun. Salmonblaster. Ghandarvas. Adam West. Many bands I don’t remember the name of.

Haven’t seen AC/DC. Looks like that one got away.
Haven’t seen Elton John either; probably the same problem. Would have loved that.
Haven’t seen Tool. Fuck.

Love live music…seem to lean toward liking bands whose live performance are above studio offerings.

oldchella, lol!

McCartney would be awesome and must see for sure given the chance. Have seen Ringo allstar band. Not great and sure McCartney would be much better.

Oh, and “yes”, with all former members in the round rotating stage 2nd row was friggin awesome!

Galactic (funk) was great in the day when they had their original mc/singer. Not as much now. Still incredibly talented sax and drummer.

H.O.R.D.E. was also great back in the day. Blues Traveler, Widespresd, Primus, Crazy horse, Morphine, etc, etc.

How about favorite venues attended? Tend to enjoy smaller theaters about 4,000. More intimate shows. Festivals had my time and pretty much over them nowadays. I would highly recommend the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage festival though. Great time and people. Went 4 years in a row in the 90’s. Dr. John is a must see! One of the PJ shows attended was on their own during that time at municipal auditorium.

Anyone interested in prophets of rage? Rage minus zach (presence missed) but chuck d (public enemy) and b real (Cyprus hill). Pretty damn interesting. https://www.google.com/amp/consequenceofsound.net/2016/06/prophets-of-rage-announce-north-american-tour/amp/?client=ms-android-verizon#
Will def be seeing one of these dates.

That’s a neat lineup. Chuck D is the greatest.
Only rapper I’ve ever cared for
