Anyone have any recommendations for places to go in Colorado? Been looking at Telluride and Steamboat but open to suggestions. There are 4-5 of us hoping to go President’s Day weekend. We are looking for somewhere that will be less crowded that is not too absurdly expensive.
I have actually never been to either of those places in the 20 years I’ve skied in Colorado. I was going to suggest Vail or Beaver Creek but it can get expensive. Keystone would be a cheaper place to go but it’s quite a bit smaller especially when compared to vail which is probably 5 times as big. Breckinridge can also be nice but it’s generally one of the more crowded places I’d say.

Telluride is a great place, skiing and the town itself. Like most ski resort towns, its not cheap. Comparable to other areas though. Stayed at a nice condo walking distance to lift for around $400/night. Not bad split between the group. Telluride has a nice mix of varied terrain and has never been crowded the handful of times I’ve been. Its not the easiest or cheapest to get to flight wise but worth it imo. Cool bars and restaurants for nightlife. Good local breakfast spots too.
We booked our trip to Steamboat this year. First week of Feb. Never been but looking fwd to it.
I enjoy CO a lot but we always love our trips to Park City area. Lots of skiing options all less than hour drive tops and easy flight into slc and hour shuttle into Park City. Just pass on the Canyons. Never again. Dont like it at all.
my experience is Presidents Day weekend, MLK are generally pretty crowded everywhere and lodging prices are elevated so beware. Few deals to be had because they dont need to offer them.

Telluride is one of the few I haven’t checked off my list but damn it’s tough/expensive to get to. It’s easier to do Aspen the telluride. I’ll make it there at some point.
Im lucky enough to be about 6 hours door to door now so will make at least a couple long weekends there this season. That and Taos if it is a good season this year.

At the moment, we are looking into Telluride the weekend after President’s Day. We would all rather take an extra vacation day and end up with a cheaper, less crowded weekend of skiing/snowboarding. We are considering flying into Montrose Airport, renting a car, and making the short 1.5hr drive to town.
Winter Park is the jam if your trying to beat the crowds. Mary Jane peak in the best in bounds riding I have experience in Colorado(besides Breck Imperial Bowl). Keystone/Breck great for park riding - Vail is just down right expensive and has super flat cat-tracks that you need to transverse to get anywhere rewarding. Just PRAY for snow and hope it’s not dust on crust!
Yep. Pretty much what you have to do. That or there are shuttles from airport. Really no need for a car once in town. Gondola up from old town into mtn village and back. Runs all night. Spend most our time in town after skiing anyway. And good call on avoiding the holiday weekend.

Telluride is a great mountain, and so is Steamboat. Steamboat has become so damn built up over the last 10 years though its incredible. Great mountain, but I am sure it is crowded during the holidays (haven’t been in a few years).
Anyone been to Silverton? Trying to get out there for a couple days.
Unfortunately it looks like our Telluride trip will not be happening this winter. A couple of friends from our group recently started new jobs and won’t be able to take off for any significant time this winter.
However, the upside is that we booked a trip for next winter, January 2016…
I found a massive house on the mountain with 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, ski-in/out for only $400 a night. The property manager had not yet adjusted the prices for ski season in 2016 so I got it at less than half the usual January rate. Already looking forward to it.
I guess I can hone my skills up in Wisconsin this winter so I have the confidence to ski some more serious stuff come Telluride. I might also pick up my own set of boots after this ski season.
Another friend invited me to tag along for his Breckenridge trip this Friday… Round trip flights were $1600… no thanks.
