Honestly honing your skills on the shitty snow (reads ice) in midwest really makes getting on actual snow a big help. Terrain, sure its steeper and longer, but the actual snow conditions you are rewarded with make it seem like a breeze. At least thats been my experience. I learned to ski at the same places as you. Once I went out west it was great to know if I can hold edge on the ice, I can blast down the fresh snow out west with confidence.

Amazing day at Cannon/Mitersill today, the base was deeper than I’ve ever seen at Mitersill. Caught the last chair up to boot.

Had to hike a bit to get to this but it was worth it (lost boys glade)

The most snow I’ve ever seen under the abandoned Mitersill T-bar

Some random shoot on Mitersill, branches were about chest height

That cloud decided to hang around all day
Telluride is a great mountain, and so is Steamboat. Steamboat has become so damn built up over the last 10 years though its incredible. Great mountain, but I am sure it is crowded during the holidays (haven’t been in a few years).
Anyone been to Silverton? Trying to get out there for a couple days.
Unfortunately it looks like our Telluride trip will not be happening this winter. A couple of friends from our group recently started new jobs and won’t be able to take off for any significant time this winter.
However, the upside is that we booked a trip for next winter, January 2016…
I found a massive house on the mountain with 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, ski-in/out for only $400 a night. The property manager had not yet adjusted the prices for ski season in 2016 so I got it at less than half the usual January rate. Already looking forward to it.
I guess I can hone my skills up in Wisconsin this winter so I have the confidence to ski some more serious stuff come Telluride. I might also pick up my own set of boots after this ski season.
Another friend invited me to tag along for his Breckenridge trip this Friday… Round trip flights were $1600… no thanks.
So, we may be looking at going to Telluride in Mid March. Haven’t completely committed but looking into it pretty seriously.

Loveland wasn’t bad today. First time there. There was a good amount of powder to play in too.

^So envious of you guys with all that great terrain nearby.
Went to Wilmot with a coworker last night straight from work. Only took us about 1.25hrs to get there. Had a great time until I ate shit when I hit a concealed patch of grass near the bottom. Got absolutely slammed into the frozen ground. Pretty sure I have a broken thumb. Really swollen, black and blue. Might have to get it checked out this afternoon.
Headed to Alpine tomorrow. Hopefully I can power through the pain and avoid any further injuries.

There are always trade offs. I can’t even put into words how much I miss the food in Chicago. But yeah it’s a big part of the reason I moved here. Unfortunately I don’t get to go as much as I want. Loveland is only 60 miles from me though and only $60 for a lift pass so I may start going more now that I know I like it.

Damn dude. Take care and get better soon.
I hope to hit the slopes on Saturday unless if it rains and we get frozen concrete.

went back to Loveland today and it was quite a bit better. It wasn’t snowing and it was sunny and warmer. Took some decent pictures to share.

Pretty cold. Sub 0 F wind chills again. Had a good time but was being very cautious thanks to the thumb…
