The Skiing/Boarding Thread

Damn, I could never deal with such a thick glove, limits dexterity too much for me. These are my go to from about -10 to 40, above 40 I ditch the gloves.

My fingertips do not seem to fare well when the temps drop below 10 degrees F and there’s wind. I often end up clenching my hands to stay warm on the lifts. The Oakley gloves I’ve been using are pretty meh; high quality gloves with some good features but they don’t appear waterproof as claimed.

Going to give these gloves a shot and see if they are workable with poles. They are rated for 26,000+ft so they better be warm lol.

Have you gone to Devils Head yet? Seem to remember liking it better than Cascade

Nope not yet. We may actually head there next weekend. Looks like it should be even better based on reviews. Trying to get in as much skiing as possible before the warm weather comes back.

Ordered some new mitts, Outdoor Research Altis. Don’t see my hands getting cold in these.

Oakley gloves have not been cutting it.

2 of my super skier friends (national team calibre) both wore deerskin or sheepskin mitts (something that you would buy at Mark’s Work Wearhouse). They were like elbow length

Same size as those ones ynneK posted. I always thought they were funny looking. Everyone else had the fancy high tech gloves and stuff, and these two guys who could out ski anyone on virtually any mountain were wearing these things…which were warm as hell.

Mittens are usually warmer. Report back on Devils Head. Went there years ago for nye all night skiing. Ah, good old days…

Haven’t seen many western skiing pics here. Here’s one from Crested Butte, CO last weekend. Skiing was amazing.

And another.

Heard they have opened plenty of new terrain since last I was there close to 15 years ago.

CB has a lot a pretty steep stuff, but dunno when they opened it up. Awesome mountain; much better vibe than areas that are closer to Denver.

Ya, we really liked it out there. They have always had steeps, just recall hearing they opened up more terrain with easier access to more of it. Used to hold extreme skiing competitions back in the day. Seems every resort does now but they used to be the go to spot. Fond place in my heart because my girlfriend learned to ski there.
