the v10 s6 project

Just read through teh whole thread

  1. holy cow man, 2 years without the car??
  2. those headers are TITS!!! Our S8 is new to us right now…but when its a bit older and we get yet another car…these are right on the list. the whole exhaust system looks very very well done. The headers are much nicer than those 10k ones (from japan i believe?) Nice, straight and looks equal length. The collector is VERY well done as well! The sound clip you posted was awesome, would love to see a dyno vid or drive by to hear it with the engine loaded

That Dash is a nice touch, looks like it flows with the seats too.

The headers and exhaust are made by CV. He has made headers for the 4.2 S4 the 4.2 S5 and the 5.2 V10 they are impressive . Powerwise they actually test them to verify that there are better outputs. It will be interesting to see how much further ahead V8A6’s car is then evryone else.

Thanks guys!

As Justin said, CV is the artist behind the headers.

And agreed, over two plus years is a LONG time. Especially since I have never really had the car in my possession for any significant length of time, since it was purchased way back in mid-2014. And a boatload of cash has been dumped into the project along the way. Hopefully, we will have the misfires (and now overheating) resolved soon, so I can finally get the ECU and TCU tune on the car that everyone else has.

Since we dont know root cause of the problem(s) at the moment, it is extremely frustrating and not possible to predict an ETA for completion. It could be on the road next week, or it might still be in the shop next year. In any case, I will be sure to post an update as soon as the car is running. Fingers crossed it is on the road before we hit 2017

Any speculation on what the problem is? Your car has been in the shop since I was in HS and that was quite some time ago! Do you think there’s a bad combination of mods or faultiness with the actual car?

V8A6, of course, you already know all this, but for anyone else who is reading this and might be having similar issues:

Overheating - you may want to look at my new coolant leaks thread for some tips on where to start looking. Other obvious places to start: bad fan, water pump, or thermostat. The latter 2 items are worth replacing if they’re old anyways, especially if you’ve already got the front end off.

Misfires - the usual places to start are (in order of cheapest to most expensive): spark plugs, coil packs, carbon cleaning, fuel injectors.

Ironically seems our cars follow the same plight fix one thing one thing comes back. I haven’t figure out the overheating and it’s interesting in park the car can idle for hours without overheating in drive the car can sit for 5-10 minutes and start overheating, the gremlins are at it again

Ya, fortunately I don’t have any real major issues going on anymore at the moment, but since my radiator got fixed the other day, now I get a sporadic “Hood open” warning on my dash. Like, off and on 1000x during a drive. Pretty sure the idiots at my local shop put my front end back on wrong. There’s no way I’m taking it back to them to fix though, every time I have them fix something they break something else. Every time. Also just got a tire pressure light this morning that I need to look into, and my airbag light is still on. Would be nice to start my car one day and not have any warning lights.

That dash!! I need that dash!! So nice!!

Thanks man

So, they pulled the thermostat, that was just installed along with a new water pump, probably 1000 miles ago, and found it was not opening. Replaced with a new one, and no more overheating issues!

Now, we are back to troubleshooting the misfires. Will update again when we have some progress

Sweet, one of my things to check was the one! I’ll pretend like I helped

Good luck with the misfires!

Wow that dash is sexy - looks like my first mod will be some interior color changing

well, we pulled the intake manifold again, and all looked pretty good. Unfortunately, when the split the clamshell the lower half got damaged.

Luckily, I have another one, so they are piecing the the best from both together, and should be back in action fairly soon.

In the meantime, ordered…

JHM Intake spacers
JHM lightweight crank pulley
JHM SAI blockoff plates

The only thing I havent added is the JHM lightweight rotors. I am a HUGE fan of lightweight wheels and rotors. The thing is, I have the RS6 calipers waiting on standby. So, if anything Ill have a custom set made for them, after all the rest of this shit is sorted out.

So, at this point I officially have the most decked out v10 S6 that doesnt run… LOL.

That said, there are only so many parts left on the car that have yet to be replaced with new. Where logical troubleshooting fails to determine root cause, throwing money at a bunch of new replacement parts will eventually resolve the issue. That is the plan, anyway.

Fingers crossed!!!

I love the piano black surround! did you respray yours or get one off an Rs6? I hace been trying to find an RS6 RHD one but they are like gold dust. i might just by a a6 one and get it sprayed piano black!

OR why not just wrap it with high quality gloss black vinyl? I might take a stab at it; I really dislike the silver as well.

Thats a good idea batman!

I got the dash surround from German ebay. It was from an RS6. It really should have come standard on the S6.

I agree. The silver really cheapens up the overall look IMO. It should be pretty painless to wrap as long as you have a heatgun to push the wrap through the openings and get smooth.

It’s been a few years since I’ve carbon wrapped anything, but the 2x2 weave is SO much easier to work with than a twill pattern (although a twill arguably is more interesting to look at), it just doesn’t like to wrap around stuff very well with a vacuum bag. On this part, it would definitely pull the weave out of alignment here and there - it would probably trigger some OCD on my part if it did. 2x2 is a lot easier to control…

We’ll see how motivated I get. Epoxy isn’t the easiest thing to work with when the temps are lower, but it’s a decent winter project idea.

Here’s a couple parts I’ve done

Just bought one today on ebay. They’re out there but generally I think you have to find them in Europe and have them shipped over.

Them pics dont work for me unless i open them in a new tab.
