So far from what we know headers help with more then just performance stuff right. Getting headers allows you to not have to pull the motor just to change a 02 sensor. We all know as people do carbon cleans or just even with age you need to replace your 02. Some more performance to the V10 and we saw people getting issues with 02. So your removing the cats we know sole people have said that’s good for 20 or 30 hp alone. Then the technical bulletin says the v10 header design isn’t optimal but the design you made would be. Audi even said that.
When you look at v10 BMW headers they are almost 8k. They have a not even full replacement for the v10 for 5 k if you get around that or less you would have a good deal on your hands. The v8 full length headers were almost 3 k.
Agreed! While any custom v10 headers with top quality materials are going to be expensive, on the v10 S6 I actually see them as a great value.
Reduced engine bay heat
Lambo-like Sound
Catalytic and 02 sensor relocation - no need to drop the engine ever again, to get to the upper cats/o2s
Increased performance - UNLEASH THE BEAST !!!
I guess I didn’t make this clear earlier, but the cost of the headers now is as cheap as they will ever get. Once we put my car back together, we wont be able to make another set without acquiring a DEV car. And in that case, we will need to sell about half a dozen sets of headers at a much higher price (thousands more), just to break even.
Ahh I want a set too! But, I just bought the car I just paid for 2 vacations one here at the end of May one in july and I am also saving up for a wedding in September and honeymoon. Anyone ever been to New Zealand? Lol I was kinda happy the project was slow going. Was giving me time to save.
Here’s something I never got to ask you: how long do you intend on keeping this car? 4+ years? 10? After all, you are putting a considerable amount into it.
Well, whenever I have started some crazy project car, the plan has always been to keep it ‘forever’. Of course, that never happens. There definitely is a part of me that loves the project itself, and I find myself looking for the next one as soon as one is completed.
I would love to keep every car I ever owned and modded. However, the money is often needed for the next project, and driveway space is very limited at my house.
As of today, I plan to keep it forever. Once complete, I think it is going to be one the closest things on the road to a modern day muscle car, with European build quality. While all the new turbo cars offer insane power potential, I love the large NA engines, which you are only finding in the flagship models now (and soon you may not find anywhere). So, I can’t see giving this car up anytime soon.
Of course, if the right offer came along, it might be hard to turn down. We’ll see what kind of attention the car gets once it is complete.
That’s a great answer. Well, if you do decide to keep it, then you’ll have a twin car in the NA following your project’s footsteps. Like I’ve said, I intend on following your model given it goes well, which I have great faith that it’ll be a beast. Give me some years to develop the funds and knowledge - I won’t be too far behind!
Very smart of you. So many times you have guys who want to cut there own path just to be different or sometimes there are those guys who say they think there has to be a better way. The reality is you can make something very easy very hard if you want. There is no reason to break the mild and with years and years of proving what works for audis… this is the true blueprint. When audi right out tells you I’m the study guide that your car needs headers for more power and that your exhaust system that comes stock on the car is killing power so it can pass emissions. You kinda know what you have to do. This build is just what you have to do
I’m keeping this car forever and I have a crazy idea for a project that I’m not ready to share. Nothing ground breaking but it’s not fully baked yet. It’s so fun to drive, and it sounds like sex!
Keep in mind, everyone, that this is not remotely a proven product yet - no guaranteed benefits whatsoever. I’m not saying it won’t have benefits, but we’re talking about a product for which you don’t even have install pics, a “startup” video, nothing. So, keep that in mind before you part with your cash…just sayin’.
I’ve been bitten before by jumping in on something like this (a “McLaren exhaust system”) that turned out to be airware. I get concerned when someone says “buy now before prices skyrocket.” If it is truly a quality design / build, the maker will have specs that can be replicated at a lower cost due to economies of scale.
the cost of fabricating jigs for ongoing production is likely unpalatable to the manufacturer due to the low prospective sales volume. if enough people jump on board, then maybe they’ll make jigs and it’ll be a runner, like captaininsano’s S4 headers; if they don’t then it’ll be like the headers for my A6, 2 sets and thats it.
So, it’s one-off after one-off; makes sense. Right now, they can fit them to V8A6’s block to keep cost down. That said, results aren’t guaranteed. Every set is an experiment until road / track tested and proven.
