I mean the manifold itself. The turtle shell…I think it’s Mg
It is supposedly cast magnesium but I dunno…the inside of the runners look a lot like aluminum to me. And, it isn’t exactly lightweight. But then again, I’m no metallurgist and have no idea what kind of funky mag-alloy it is.
I have a spare intake manifold (my stock one). I bought another manifold (p&p) just in case I snapped a flap arm during my carbon clean on my stocker. Was assuming I could install the p&p one and sell my stocker for what I paid for the “modified” manifold easily since there were folks out there with broken flap arm issues. No, not so sure my stock intake manifold is worth all that much, so I’ll hold on to it.
With that being said, I know a few folks that got the 034 replacement arms were having difficulty understanding how to actually install them…not sure if they ever figured it out.
^^^Same people who didn’t know how to install the JHM shifter
I’m just thinking of adding a tune/exhaust/catless DPs. The tune is easy to reverse, especially if I keep a 2nd ECU around for warranty work. The exhaust should be easy to reverse as well. I suppose I could do piggies, which would keep a stock appearance apart from the o2 sensor relocation. Hrmmm
Getting a second ECU is quite expensive due to the immobiliser. It must be cloned. Ask your dealer how much this will cost.
I’m assuming carbon cleanings are considered regular maintenance and will not be covered under warranty, right?
Anyone have a guide for IM removal and carbon cleaning? As I understand it you just fill up the valve runners with solvent and let it soak for a while and then drain/vacuum? What kind of solvent?
Not to mention the car has two ecus
There are two ECUs to start with. Double rainbow!
No, I don’t think that was the case. IIRC it isn’t intuitive at all how to get the stock arms off or how to get the new ones on. Maybe you need a proprietary or special tool. I’ll have to take a look at the manifold in my basement to see…
I seriously can not wait to have this car. It should be in my hands within a week. I have the check ready for the seller and he signed a bill of sale. At this point I’m just waiting for him to assign power of attorney to his friend since he’s in Ecuador and the title is here. I would wait for him to get back, but he’s waiting on his work visa to be approved so he’s uncertain when exactly he will have his passport back and be able to return home. I want the car now.
Apparently my 3.0 retails for $16K and $13K for private party. I bought the car for $17K in 2009 lol… How do I always find amazing deals on cars?
I need to get the rear bumper repainted or touched up… Some asshole in Atlanta hit-n-run my car while it was parked and I didn’t want to pay the $1k deductible for the tiny amount of paint scrape and paint transfer. My front bumper has a nice 2" area of paint missing and scrapes on the underside so I figure I’ll have that repainted as well. Fortunately I know someone who is gonna give me a good deal on this work.
The only other physical defect on the car is a misaligned front/driver side quarter panel from when I got smashed by an SUV in 2009. The car should have been totaled IMO, but Progressive Insurance employs fuckwits and I apparently chose the worst shop possible to perform the work. It took over 9 months to resolve all of the suspension issues that they created by incorrectly installing stuff.
Once all the suspension issues were finally resolved I was just ready to have my friggin car back and overlooked/ignored the gap mismatch between my hood and the two quarter panels. The same assholes decided to “repair” a broken fuel vent line underneath my car instead of finding the correct part and replacing it.

At that point I brought it to the Audi dealership and raised hell, since they were owned by the same company as the body shop they recommended. After all was said and done I think the claim was almost $20k including all the time I spent in the rental car(brand new Buick LaCrosse lol).
Rant done… sorry for wall of text
Have you seen this rs4 yet? How much of a deposit did you put down?
Dude, most people would say “don’t mean to shit on your parade, but…”. I’m going to straight up say this: I’m going to shit on your parade.
Be very careful about what you do with your money and cheque. This Ecuador/POA story screams “SCAM!” at me until proven otherwise.
I know you’ve seen the car in person but you can still lose money at this point, or worse, end up with a car with a shady ownership history.
I suggest you use extreme caution. If you truly love the car, maybe get your own lawyer involved to look over this sketchy sounding POA arrangement. Spend a few hundred bucks to ensure you don’t lose $40k+.
Seriously, just read what you wrote. Not even close to 100% legit!
whoah whoah whoah, I was skimming this thread until bangoman brought it up. This is really shady :-\
Thanks, man, glad to know I’m not going crazy paranoid
Guys I’ve seen and examined the car, have a copy of the title, and have spoken with the parties involved extensively. There is no way this is a scam. It smells 99% of scam, but I assure you it is not. I proposed him to get the power of attorney setup to speed up the sale. All that is for is to have that person legally be able to sign over the title.
Trust me guys, I perform information security work for a living… I am not an idiot and I’m likely far more paranoid than all of you.
Thanks for your concern though. I keep laughing how this situation sounds exactly like a scam but is not.
And yes I will have my attorney look over the PoA document to ensure validity.
No deposit… just a bill of sale so far. They know I’m legit and I know they’re legit so there’s no need for a deposit.
Good stuff; I’d hate for this to become one of those stories. Since you’ve already got legal counsel going, sounds like you’re all over it.
You forgot one thing… pics!
I’m going to take another look at the car tomorrow so I’ll get some better pics, but here’s a few from the seller for now:

“I’m selling it for a friend”
that one’s huge. Allows you to not be accountable to knowing the item when questioned about its legitimacy.
“The seller is in (insert third world country) right now, and I am selling it for him”
classic
Two major signs of trouble lurking…unless the seller’s name is Nigel Saladu
