Thinking about buying an RS4...

Yes, I’m well aware of the telltale signs of a scam. I get paid to think like a criminal and break into networks of companies using various methods. I’ve done my research and I would have figured it out by now if these guys are scammers. I’ve taken numerous precautions to protect myself and detect fraudulent activity so far during this transaction.

If you look through the ebay sellers website, http://www.ronsusser.com/ , you’ll see that he is currently selling and has sold numerous high cost items with the records to match on ebay. He often sells cars for a friend of the seller, whom I have been speaking with on a daily basis since winning the bid. I know where these guys live and work. I have a signed bill of sale and I could totally spank them with a lawsuit to get my money back if they end up scamming me.

I seriously appreciate your concern saki. These guys are all well to do guys, two of which live locally to me. They would be risking dire consequences to their careers and personal life if they were trying to run this type of scam.

I never need an excuse to reference the flight of the conchords so it seemed fitting lol.

Keep us in the loop

Woohoo the car already has JHM 380mm front rotors. The only other non-stock item is the rear diff mount, which the owner got from JHM so hopefully it’s the Apikol red/race mount.

I’ll be picking up the car either tomorrow or Thursday… extremely excited.

Neat. I thought someone pointed that out last week?

 You did, and I assumed they were from the start seeing the pics and in person, but the owner just confirmed.

The car is fuckin amazing  I can’t wait to give it a little more pep with a few mods. Right now the only thing I plan to do is JHM rear rotors(already got em on the front), tune, downpipes, and exhaust. Also there is a tiny bit of curb rash on two of the wheels so I will probably buy a set of lightweight wheels next time I get new tires.

They’re really neat cars aren’t they. You never really forget you have something special.

With so few of them around, you get some reactions.

Today a snowplow operator said to me at the gas station ‘that thing looks like it has a ton of horsepower’ which is interesting because I’m reasonably sure he doesn’t know the car at all…but he can just tell there is something special going on. Even though they’re so similar, nobody ever said that when they saw my s4 parked.

I’ve also had loads of people just start talking to me about the car . One guy came up to my open Window and just started a chat like we were old friends. I was eating a sandwich with my wife near the lake and he just walked up and asked ‘so what’s it like… Pretty awesome?’

I had no idea what he meant. The look on my face seemed to tell him that, so he said ‘Audi RS4…what’s it like owning one?’

Stuff like that has happened a couple dozen times.

My car is avus silver that blends in for the most part . I can’t imagine what it’s like in a lowered red one or something.

^^^ funny, I was walking out of Home Depot the other day, from a distance I saw this guy do a walk around and look at my trunk. As I approached my B7S4, he complemented the car but proceeded to tell me he thought it was an RS. This happens to me often, I think the DTM package and RS4 reps throw people off. My reply is generally in a disappointed tone " no, it’s just an S" thank you though.

Congratulations on the purchase of great car! I would almost bet someone will comment on a daily, based on your color and being an RS!

Dtm looked so good. I wish I had found one with it in 08 when I was buying mine. Exterior sport package I think they called it in 07

I think the exterior sport package is the correct term for 08 as well. Not sure, I could check my sticker.

I always thought the DTM term was used even though true DTM’s were only available on A4’s in Europe.

I do enjoy the looks my car is getting so far, but I’ve had the thought in the back of my mind to debadge the car of all RS4 logos. What do you guys think? Maybe I’ll leave the ones on the doors and just remove the grill and trunk logos? I’ve always been a fan of the debadged look, but like you guys say this a special car so maybe I should revel in the logo’s sexyness.

The only thing missing on this car is the premium package. I actually miss having automatic lights, auto dimming mirrors, seat memory, and homelink for programming my garage openers in. I don’t give a damn about the crappy RNS-E and I’m going to tint the windows dark enough where I don’t need to dim the rear-view mirror, but I’m really going to miss the seat memory and homelink. Is there any way to retrofit that stuff? I’m guessing not cheaply. What about programmable garage openers that I can use to copy my existing ones and keep in the car?

Edit: Gonna get my dad to take some pro pics after a detail. I’ll post em up.

Non premium package is hard to find. My car is the same

I got the new rnse which is quite a bit better than the old.

Memory seat matters if you share the car. I don’t so no big deal. Parts to retrofit Te module and switch are about $250 on forums and double that from audi (who refuse to do this for you by the way as it’s a pain in the ass)

Dimming mirrors is nice but with a tint, not an issue

Only thigsbi miss are auto headlights and auto wipers. You can retrofit.

Mirror with compass - around $100 used or on part outs, ( $650 new)
Sensors - $350
Other miscellaneous parts - $50

The memory and rain/light sensing modifications each have diy threads somewhere.

Search the rs246 rs4 section for the programmable memory seats, as the guys talk parts, and then link to a thorough thorough thread on AZ in the a4 section.

The mirror for light/rain is apparently best done when you need a new windshield because getting the old one off is hard and I think leaves a mark. Lots of diys for that around the various forums.

Are the parts interchangeable with other B6/7 cars? IIRC JHM were parting out a B6 S4 - they might still have some of those modules kicking about.

Dimming mirrors are annoying. Auto headlights are cool. My B6 S4 doesn’t have auto wipers.

Thanks for the heads-up on the RS246 section on memory seats - I have a sensor failure so the memory doesn’t quite restore the fore/aft setting to the exact position. But deffo useful if you share the car, I spend half of my life in the GTI driving around on the OH’s settings cos I’m too lazy. I love that the S4 seat memory is linked to the key to the position is changed when I unlock the car. Not sure how it works but it does.

I’m 6’5" and my wife is like 5’3"

Couldn’t live without memory on shared cars. So she’s banned from the rs4 (although she doesn’t care to drive it)

Auto wipers are nice. They not only turn on when it rains but also change speed automatically as well (and you can set the multiplier on the stalk).

Its especially nice on the highway when passing trucks and cars.

:o

Yours doesn’t have memory seats? I have two different seat/mirror settings programmed depending on which key is used.

read back a few posts. Start at paragraph two of #51

Looks like the car actually has an extended warranty until 75,000 miles. It is a “comprehensive coverage” warranty sold by ‘First Extended Service Corporation’ and appears to cover anything that would have been covered by the original manufacturer’s warranty. Anybody know anything about this warranty company?

I don’t know much about the extended warranty, if others don’t unfortunately it’s probably a learn as you go type situation. Look at it this way, anything is more than zero!

About your de-badging question. I could careless about badges and what they imply. They do give a clean look which is nice. I would be tempted to do it with my own but prefer not to create any more work, plus my exhaust work and BBK prevent me from flying under the radar so to speak. Your car is similar and much better then mine so the badges are a minor detail due to the wide-body, wheels, brakes, interior, engine and well… the whole damn thing! If you like the clean lines then remove those puppies, your car speaks for itself, not the badges.
