Thoughts on AMS findings regarding divorcing coolant

Sorry, guys busy few days… The stuff ynnekdude linked to is what I use… The roll I used on my intake was like $15 and came with 4 of the fasteners… I’m pretty anal so I took the tube off wrapped it all nice and neat and put it back on… Looks pretty good imo… lol

If you do go that route, make sure to properly dampen the roll and wear gloves or else you will be picking fiberglass out of your hands for hours.

Cool. Thanks for the feedback guys. Going to do this soon.

AMS just released it

Curious what the response will be, since this is priced the same as AWE and APR (one of the main sources of bitching from the crowd). Main difference, as discussed in this thread, seems to be not divorcing the two systems. Only other advantage I see is a slight discount for being an early adopter. Sounds like they will stick around and support the product, which is always a good thing 8).

The bitching about price has started. What were they expecting? AMS makes expensive, high-quality stuff. Why would they suddenly change?

^^^because saxon had an evo once and everyone/everything was cheap?

didn’t ‘2000S4’ make his own cooler a year or two ago? I think it cost him $300. Surprised there isn’t a DIY online for that.

this is a nice picture. Very nicely exposed to show the welds. I think it’s a high dynamic range photo.

I need to learn to TIG weld

Ron, Also figured out that my system had burped either during or before the track, causing the fluid level to drop, at resting temp it was at the min line, so topped off almost 1/4 to max which was about half a liter

Also changed my filter to a clean one and I did have that little screen in place, removed that as well

db, Good stuff man… That should help with airflow… Others have noticed drops in the coolant/water levels as well after installing… APR recommends pressurizing the system to ensure all air is out but I don’t think most do that…

Seems like a nice product from AMS… I’d love to see two cars with very similar setups hit the strip and pull IAT’s while making 3 consecutive passes and see how much better the AMS kit is? You Chicago guys could probably make that happen… Just a thought…

I’m actually about to order it right now. Guess I’ll be the guinea pig lol

I mentioned this in the 2014 thread, but I ordered one too. So, there’ll be a couple at least.

Is there anything that would cause an issue with installing this on a Q5? Do S4’s have more room under the engine bay?

Didn’t see that. Did you order yours with that extra tool?

Yes. Eric said it was needed if I was going to install it myself (which I plan to do). Not sure exactly why I need, but I figure I can sell it when done if needed.

what was the discount for the early adopters?

Gonna guess $100 and a free sticker!

Almost 4x that…

wow…that’s a good deal! :stuck_out_tongue:
