thoughts on the B8 S4 game

While i don’t closely follow the b8 s4 game at all is it me or is there only one shining star in the b8 game seems the top of the list is the well deserved sucuess of primetime and his 11 sec venture.

It seems to me that most b8 s4 guys are clinging onto prime and his accoplishments like its nothing special that he is doing and it takes no tallent or skill to acheve his timesheet.

From the last thing I’ve seen some of the b8 membership thinks its just a chip and push the gas pedal hard. While I’m not saying that there isn’t a good amount of serious advancement and performance gains to be had and the b8 has already proven to be the best s4 performance wise so far. It seems a few are maybe overly stating where the cars are really at. Once again not all but deffinitly a few

My last thing I wanted to get some thoughts on was the apparent attempt by giac to now get into the APR dominated b8 game. I read some where that giac claimed they were too busy to tune the b8 s4. I call that bs. I don’t think they were too busy I just think they couldn’t do it.

Love to hear others thoughts and opinions.

Well there’s the age old race gas vs pump gas debate. While primetime is certainly the standout by a good margin, the facts are

  1. He has just about every mod possible for the car, and has tried a couple versions of some mods

  2. He goes to the strip like most people go to the movies or watch tv. He has probably been 10+ times in 2011. This means he knows what he’s doing and he’s not going to leave anything on the table. He’s not going with a full tank by accident…and he’s not going to accidentally deep stage. He gets everything out of the car. He’s good.

  3. He runs race gas exclusively and has for a year now. This makes his times tough to compare to other guys on pump but there are lots of b8 guys on racegas now.

On pump there is a 12.27 guy, a 12.39 guy and a 12.48 guy. Only the 12.39 guy had a pulley. I think you’ll see someone on pump get deeper into the 12s.

On race gas there are a few guys who ran 12.3-12.5 but modlists vary.

Bottom line the fastest two b8 s4s on pump gas ran 12.27 and 12.39 and that’s awesome. The cars are seriously fast for a $60,000 4 door family sedan that struggles to tip the scales under 4000 pounds. Their torque curve is freakishly good. Its more of a straight line than a curve.

Still its neat to compare them to b7 rs4s which are supposedly ‘slow’ and the b8 guys love to cite the rs5’s 4.2 fsi (and the new rs4) as a ‘fail’. Hey guys…with a tune, exhaust, clutch and flywheel the rs4 is as fast or faster than every b8 on pump gas. Not only that but the rs4 and the b8 s4 both start at the same point in stock form (high 12s/low 13s) so the NA cars gains are similar to the SC cars. So I guess by the b8 forum’s own rationale, the b8 is a fail too…and the whole 3.0T engine is a fail. I say this sarcastically. Its excellent. I also say ‘the b8 forum’ as a generalisation…there are a few good apples who understand this stuff. When I showed this rs4 vs b8 on pump comparison to the b8 guys on audiworld last week they all flat ignored it. It conflicts with the attitude prevelant in that forum…that the v8 cars are un-moddable…so they don’t know how to address the facts, and ignore them.

The only fail is peoples’ inability to understand and appreciate performance from other platforms.

Shawn, Thanks man… I certainly appreciate it! I think most people say what they do because the car isn’t a 6-speed car… To your point there is a little more to it than just pressing the gas but most don’t understand that… Is it as hard to drive as a stick car? Obviously not, but it isn’t what people make it out to be either… I have been drag racing 25+ years since I stared with my moped so I do have some experience especially with stick cars… Again, thanks for the props!

Fortunately, others are starting to hit the track and run some good #'s but since I am on race gas it is tough to compare… There was a 12.26 pass last night in Tornoto so I expect too see some good numbers over the next month… I hope someone beats my time so I can really get serious! LOL I’ll go 11.7 this year either eay…

As for GIAC who knows… I have heard for months now from some reputable folks that GIAC. REVO, etc would have a chip but to this point nothing!

Thanks Saki! I agree with your comments… Love the RS4 and looking forward to seeing it really shine… That 12.28 is really great and hopefully motivates others… I’m all about people running their car, having fun, learning, and enjoying it…

who ran 12.26?

Considering race is good for 2-3 tenths 81bear could threaten the 11s if he threw in some 100+. Last Saturday I kept suggesting he buy a gallon or two to mix in with his little tiny bit of 94 he had left. Only problem was it was 110 octane which might be leaded? a.k.a. might be dangerous for his cats.

He didn’t want to though. he seemed more into being pump-fast. I guess I’ll go with him again in a week or two. I should have gone today. It was DA -500 all day.

It was ilspazzaneve‎, on AZ… The interesting thing about his car is that it doesn’t hesitate at 3500rpm like the ohter dsg cars… He totally shortshifted and still ran 12.26, pretty good…

Yeah, Bear should throw in some race gas… leaded will kill the sensors not the cats… shame really… I’ll probably go headers this winter and then run leaded gas going forward…

Track by me was closed today… not happy! They are open every week in nov. weather permitting… I’ll be there…

Interesting thing is that it was at Cayuga …

Sorry, but if you have a 2010+… the interesting thing is the launch, shift, and short shift… Track is well… irrelevant… Great run and time though…

Why are you telling bangoman what is or isn’t interesting? That’s our track. That’s why he posted that. It’s extra interesting because we can compare his times to some of the other recent AR member times that were run there.

Prime glad you’re a member here and glad you got the post.

I can see the b8 cars kick ass and its clearly a faster 3.0 then mine lol.

I just kinda got frustrated for a little bit where it seemed many people were over looking your clear amount of skill and understanding of the car go make it run so well. Not all b8 s4 cars are 11sec cars. Your sucuess is well deserved and I felt that you should have just as much praising as Apr.

Prime the only thing I would watch out for is the swarm of scam artists that are going go try and offer bs parts claiming performance. It seems like Tue bottom feeders always come out when excitmemt starts ramping up

Sakimano I can totally see the guys on audiworld doing that. Fact of the matter is most of those guys are just regurgatating the last Thing that someone said that sounds smart.

Prime great to see you share your feedback. I just can’t stand AZ so its great to see your representing the great B8 comunity… If you can please post some updates here for those that are excited for you but don’t like the AZ troll fest

Thanks! I appreciate the kind words… I signed up to congratulate George(2000s4) on his awesome RS4 time… I know what you mean about AZ… I no longer post there becuase of a dispute with the “ownership” as they didn’t like that I made shift paddles to help the communitty out since it undercut their paying vendor’s price by 5 times! Just goes to show you who really runs the board over there…

Anyway, really excited for this Sat. as the weather is supposed to be low 50’s and I have made a few tweaks to the car… Should see a new best ET and trap… I’ll make a post when I get home Sat. afternoon with some vids and such… Need to get some more traction on the B8 board!

this site actually has it’s own photo and video uploader which is pretty cool.

Primetime we don’t accept advertising to have anything to do with this site. It’s a member run board based off seniority of members and there say. Your more then welcome to share what you have made here. We support member driven development as well as honest results from legitimate products.

We would love to have you bring your video and information here. We have made the site to be one of a kind where all the information can be shared in one spot.

Keep us posted good or bad on your results this weekend. We are all excited to see the Audi brand so well represented.

And to just think ALL the b5 S4 guys pegged the 3.0 s/c to be a failure before it even hit the ground. So much for turbos huh

interesting, and unsurprising lol

what a joke. He wasn’t doing it for a profit…just made something for his own car, and had a bunch of extras made for buddies. Certainly not a big ‘for profit’ business venture.

It was tantamount to chastising someone for doing a DIY because it hurts the tuning shops who advertise on the site.

As a result of this shortsightedness, AZ lost…

…the most interesting man in the (B8) world.

Thanks! I appreciate that… I’ll be sure to post all of my results over here going forward… Hopfully, that can help drive traffic and get the B8 section going like the 4.2 section… My brother and I are planning some product development from a performance standpoint this winter so I’ll get that on here as well once we start and update with progress…

Thanks Saki! Pretty much nailed it on the head… If what my brother and I plan on trying works out it will really shake some of the big companies up… Time will tell though…

LOL! Well the car is inoperable currently and the track isn’t open until Sat. I don’t want to jinx myself but I think we will be the fastest after Sat. B5’s aside ;D
