you can lump several of the fast VAST cars in with JHM. I don’t remember them doing much ground breaking once the now tuner for JHM gave the tuning keys to vast

J whats your issue with EPL. Ive heard a lot of bad press about them as of late. I think most of it is the stink and bad assocation with AMD still seems they are having some issues latly

I’ll post what I caught from the sidelines of other threads’ drama (if Fonz wants me to erase this I will), but his noggy car that he bought from an EPL buddy used to be tuned by EPL and EPL got pretty paranoid about the ability to read tunes, kicked him out of the shop, and some EPL’ers accuse him of trying to steal the tune. I have nothing to add either way, just what I caught as an unaffiliated party.

I can partly see cause for concern, but I bet it’s the part of the story that we don’t know that initiated the issues, because if someone really wanted to base a tuning company off of another company’s tune, it’s not like it would be impossible and it’s not like Tony could really do anything to stop it (see: 10secS4 tuning debacle).

I meanif you can tune…can’t you also tear apart a tune just by buying it? Thus anytime they sell a tune are they going to freak out in case someome steals?

put your stamp on a tune and make it so that you can always see if someone has stolen your work.

fact is if you can REALLY tune, copying your work is going to be obvious as fuck because you’ll have your dozens of changes on the file that will be easily identified…and if you CAN’T really tune…why would anyone steal your shit?

Exactly. The second you sell a tune, you’ve got to have already come to terms with the fact that if someone really wants to, they can and will access what you’ve done. Putting a stamp on it wouldn’t really make a difference, because it wouldn’t be illegal anyways if someone were to copy it (though it would be interesting for the tuner’s own curiosity, and most tuners do stick cookies in their tunes). That’s why I’m saying that I bet it’s the undisclosed part of the story that started the personal drama, because I can’t imagine Tony at EPL has any delusions about his tune being uncopyable in the first place.

The rs6 record holder is jhm who went 10.8@130 with a full weight car. With a wonky throttle body.

Good luck because that would mean you’re going to need to run 10.0@136…and considering the b6 a4 3.0 guys are currently all able to kill your car (which isn’t even running) I think you ought to actually run something instead of talking about it.

I’ll start by saying 10.8 is faster than anything i’ve ever done so you aren’t getting anything but respect from me.
Jhm’s 10.8 was on the rs6r which is a modified rs6 i believe… details are hazy but i’ve heard talk of larger comp wheels and whatnot. Rs6 frame but not “pjrs6” so to speak.
I have no doubt jhm can hit 10’s with pjrs6’s, however the rs6r should be considered a different turbo than the rs6 much in the way a k04/rs6 hybrid is different from a pjk04.
10.8 on any turbo is awesome, especially with tb problems… so i say congrats to that crew.

Well you’re pretty close to 10.8… it’s all in the tune, keep us posted and take a video camera. Or even a decent camera phone like bora’s SGS2.

I saw this thread when it was posted but I didnt read through all of it. I’m just curious, absolutely no shit talking or hating here… But, am I the only one who is unimpressed by every tial car out there? Nice ET on this pass, sleeping on the tree a bit, fortunately that doesnt effect anything and maybe he was working on getting a nice launch, I know bigger turbo S4’s are a bit harder to get out of the hole right. But the trap? Every single tial car in under 130 mph I think. This particular build, is a fully built motor from the valve cover to the oil pan, running the sweet ethanol, and a Jfonz tune, who from what I understand, tunes pretty aggressively compared to the other tuners. Granted the Ebay core is a weak link in the build, but otherwise this is a pretty modified motor compared to stock, and running 30 lbs from 770’s (tials largest turbos available). Also, it was a single pass, which by the looks of the 60’, it can ET a bit better for sure. But back to the traps, this car let’s say for argument sake, trapped 130… Fully built, big tials, e85, jfonz at the laptop, etc… Am I wrong to expect at least 132-136 from a car of this caliber and fuel?
Like I said, no hating, I’m just really curious as to what is holding these cars back… Stock manifolds maybe, turbos just arent all they are promised to be? I’d love to know. I want to see one of these cars blast out a sick trap, but it’s not happening and they have been around for a while. Anybody know? I would love to get a back pressure sensor on both stock manifolds on these cars to see what the hell is going on, because I would finger the stock manifolds first. But also, the high hp claims 770 3.0l cars with different manifolds are even showing worse results…
Anyway, this is what I’ve been wondering about these builds, this one in particular has the goods to be real fast in my opinion besides the intercooler being a small hold back. Why is the intercooler limiting boost? Can the wastegate actuator be adjusted to pull some more out of the turbos?
Regardless, really nice pass, and great ET as well. Props for going out there and even running the car, that’s something that a lot of these tial guys are scared of, or too worried they’ll fail at. Stick with it, because even as it sits, there is a high 10 second pass in this car.

i agree on the traps, high 120s is norm these days for fast s4s. 130s has been done time and again. I was actually impressed with the trap compared to the et in regards to comparable cars. he seemed backwards, slow trap quick et even with a shit reaction, he had to be banging gears so tony gets a thumbs up from me.

fwiw, and not totally a fair comparison but my car was running high 11s and high 120s low 130s at 21-22 psi and no timing for my shake down runs, probably 450 ish wheel. this j-fonz/770 car must have mucho more mph in it if its at the power levels i think it must be making.
