Looks like Jupiter got the shaft too. He’s a really calm nice guy…so he must have been really pissed to post this.
I had a 605 fail after 15k miles. They were on the car just over a year. Frankly, I’m not happy with Tial at all. I’m not one to do my own work b/c I’m not skilled in that manner so this only adds to overall costs associated with such a failure. EPL tuned the car, because those ******s are in bed with Tial it helped eliminate the possibility of blaming it on some unorthodox tune but it didn’t help the overall outcome.
The first reply from Tial is below: There are others I can add later but this sums up their reply:
I spoke with USP about how one was not spinning at idle and the car was having a hard time on boost. Told him to send the turbos in.
when we received the turbos in the bearings and turbos themselves felt great, I had my guy take them apart to see if we could find anything that would prevent them from spinning at idle…this is what we found (see attached)
that particular bank of the engine had/has an oiling issue, breather or drain or both, oil was pushing and building up behind the heat shield which eventually forced the heat shield into the turbine wheel, grinding them both down then what was left over took out the fins of the turbine wheel (FOD).
What weight oil are you running?
Due to the findings, this is not a warranty issue unfortunately - however the cost to fix is not great as you only need one journal bearing CHRA and possibly a re-skim of the
The entire situation pisses me off and I’m sorry to hear your turbo life span was far less than mine.
Edit: Didn’t realize this forum was sensored, weird and pathetic.
In my case they didn’t.
I wanted to prevent as little down time as possible. (I also do about 12 track events per year) I opted to order 770’s prior to the motor being pulled, 605’s sent to be inspected and ultimately their decision to not warranty their product and also charge me to repair the failed one, btw my passenger side was the one that failed.
I ordered 770’s in hopes they might be more inclined to provide some sort of credit or additional consideration regarding my previously premature failure. Would you replace a 605 with a 605 after the initial one pooped out in the 12k mile range? I found the paperwork indicating it was just over 12k miles. I think most would opt for a different turbo and manufacturer, well my dumb ass didn’t.
I think the above only makes Tial look worse.
OP, if you need any info regarding the contacts I spoke with let me know!
