We have never covered Jason’s filter and we driven it through plenty of rain and puddles without issue.
I will note that if you put one of those on, it can be pretty restrictive so I wouldn’t drive hard with one of those on.

Point noted. I’m not really worried being that I live in California. I’m also sure the Vortech impeller would turn most water if any that hits it into vapor\mist.
The sock could still be handy at the car wash when directed high pressure water is used to clean off the grills. It should help prevent accumulation. In any event I’ll keep one in the trunk.
That intake is monster awesome. These blowers love a free flowing intake. For the mustang you can gain over 50hp in just a intake.
I know the B6 s4 had or might still have a very restrictive intake.
as for getting water in it. Your intake is constently open to intake water but so is the oem air box thats why you have a filter. now keep in mind the aix box is a box because it allows the water that comes in to fall somewhere.
As long as you have your belly pan on the car there is no reason why puddles and other water hazards would be that big of an issue. Clearly dont go in water deeper then the lower front bumper
…and you live in California lol
Try that in Seattle or Vancouver
Cuppa had his intake relocated lower down
http://www.a5oc.com/forums/build-threads/21768-cuppas-s5-coupe-build-41.html
He lives in the UK where the weather is notoriously shitty
True, but his first comment lol:
[QUOTE=Cuppa;990338]Lol, did think of that, but it’s now a second and often third car so is more of a weekend/show/track car.

I don’t think it will be very likely for any issue to occur, and obviously JHM weighed the pro/con of this as well as tested it extensively if it was done like any of their previous work. However, I’m sure the JMH-Haters first comment will now be about how risky this is lol.
I know it will GREATLY help the intake temps as that was one of the original concerns even from the beginning. I worked with them a little bit trying out different air flow options to see if there was any change (difference in front sealing lip where hood meets front bumper, and other stuff like that). That said, it does look a little concerning.
I would be interested in heat output from the Aux radiator that I’m guessing it is in front of now, but I guess that was the lesser of two evils (engine bay heat vs aux radiator) and at speed it shouldn’t be an issue.
It looks in the photos of the setup that tubing bends and goes up from the filter.
Water droplets from the rain won’t get past the filter anyway, and even if a little water manages to get through, it won’t go up the tubing. And even if it somehow magically does get to the charger, it should turn it into fine harmless mist.
Rain can possibly de-oil the filter quicker with this setup, but that most likely won’t be a problem with normal maintenance intervals.
Snow is a different story though. I guess it can get past the honeycomb grilles and get stuck on the filter
Not sure if there’s enough heat there to melt it quickly enough.
Great intake location performance wise though. Cleaning or replacing the filter should be fairly easy as well, just unscrew the front belly pan and that should give enough access.
Always weigh risk with reward right? This might be happy medium, I think it will be o.k.
Well I picked up the car this evening.
First impressions are based off a 15 mile drive home in traffic. Right off the back I’m happy with my clutch choice. It’s the 3R setup which should be on their website soon. It feels basically OEM smooth with no drive-ability issues. It was easy to feather from the very first try. No learning curve for it at all.
After letting traffic die down some I took it back out for another drive. I got my first Kill already. AMG C55 got smoked on the top end, bottom end and mid range. The guy was not happy with what was happening. I can definitely tell its revving faster and making some serious HP. Compared to what it had before the cars gone from very mild to wild.
The exhaust note now that it has the HFC’s is a little louder vs my OEM cats. But I still find it to be sporty and it just demands a little more respect now ;D. On the freeway at cruise, conversation levels seem about the same inside the car to me. But when you wrap the gas it cant be ignored any more.
I’m glad I did the BBK kit first. After feeling how it pulls above 120 the BBK was a welcomed feeling knowing I could bring it back in check easily with no drama. I’m told in the cooler air it’ll go even faster.
I’ll be back at their shop before too long for something. Jason told me he’ll get started with the IC setup and HPFP in the next few weeks.
I’ll get some video’s up this weekend to close out this thread. I’ve got a huge list of other cars in town I’m looking for now ;).
Hope you guys found it informative!

RT’s are HEMI’s right? I got the video of what happened next if anyone wants the data point.
Many renditions of r/t I think. Best guess is that is an earlier 5.7l version maybe? ~375 hp, mid to high 13’s at low 100’s 1/4. My guess is it wasnt even close for him. You had mopar to the right also.
They are pretty heavy and slow unless it’s a challenger or modded decently with great tires
@5 seconds you can hear the Challenger bark at me.
@50 seconds I went after him. He sees me coming up and takes off.
This second clip shows me grabbing 5th and almost immediately having to get out of it because I was closing really fast. I felt I had made my point. And the car made a strong showing.
The GPS in my camera is a lil slow and lags behind 3-5 MPH.

WOW you can tell your car is supercharged your car really has legs. That looks like nice smooth quick acceleration. That RT didnt stand a chance.
Not sure how to embed video here. But here goes nothing.

Enjoy
On the second video with the charger, how’d you get the livefeed from The Blue Oyster right into your stereo?
Nice, congrats boosted!
So JHM finished the B8 S5 supercharger video. They ran 11.9s @ 118 mph consistently.
Very solid! I bet this car can go lower with some tweaks! Very consistent runs though, I bet it’s fun!
JHM usually keeps the faster times in there pocket. The cool thing about the stage 1 times is there all going to be about the same.
The stage 1 4.2 S4 goes 11.9
The stage 1 4.2 RS4 goes 11.6
The stage 1 4.2 S5 goes 11.9
I think the S4 and S5 have some power pulled back to save the motor where the RS4 has more RPM that extra 1000 rpm helps in making the upper rpm power
