so its been bugging me all day but after some research it turns out the coolant can freeze. well… not freeze per say but when improperly mixed it does gel up and doesn’t flow properly which would explain the air pocket like affects we were seeing last night, not enough water to freeze and too much coolant hence the gelling vs freezing. i cant see the pump failing again, it seems like that would explain why both pete and i saw what we did last night. the other common variable was TEMPERATURE…
on its own sure, but keep in mind wind chill factor of that cold air hitting the radiator and heat exchanger, the coolant res was freezing to the touch last night, no way for it to thaw or come up to temp even when running the motor hard. i think i need to flush the entire system out and refill with a proper 50/50 mix
congealing more than freezing but yes for coolant id consider that freezing. before i realized it gelled up i poured a bit of water in only to find out it wasn’t mixing. the fluid in the res was COMPLETELY still even with the pump engaged. it took me using a dowel like object to get down past the res and into the tube where the gelled coolant was and having to stir it up. after an hour long drive from long island back to hoboken(and a bunch of back to back pulls…) it had still NOT mixed and the res was still freezing to the touch and completely still. so somewhere within that loop there is more gelled up coolant that the pump just cant do its job.
50:50 pentosin and water gives you a -36F freezing point. Wind chill isn’t a factor, since that correlates to the human skin losing water through evaporation. If your CPS rad was, say, sprayed with washer fluid it would experience a wind chill of sorts.
Richi, have you used any other type of coolant in there? The only stories of gelled up mucky coolant I hear is when two different coolants are mixed…or not flushed well enough before switching…stuff precipitates out and makes a gunky mess.
Pete sort each section by 60-130 time so there’s some flow to it.
I. E. The Apr cars sorted by time, then the giac cars sorted by time. That way all the tunes are separate but sorted.
Also you’re missing to tonyrs4’s 14.02 run
That’s just too weird. Mix some pentofrost ++ and hot water, 50/50, and pour some in there. Use a turkey baster to suck up the excess. If it doesn’t melt, you have issues with some contaminant gelling up the coolant.
