VCDS newbie.

just found some time to finally install vcds and see what codes my car is throwing looks to me like o2 sensors and intake manifold flap. it says something about a fault in the se3cond computer, how do I scan the second one?

I"ll post the entire log below, I just did the autoscan and this what I got.

End --------------------------------------------------------------------

first off there is a good chance your intake flap in broken on your intake manifold. Test to see if it functions.

The rear 02s are worn out. I would replace them

Justin is right.

Check to see if your intake manifold flaps are broken. Have you had a carbon clean done any time recently? Most of the time the intake manifold flap arms are broken when people don’t reinstall the intake manifold correctly.

The rear O2s are shot. All those wiring and internal resistance faults are a good sign that the sensors are worn out.

The first engine ECU is 01-engine electronics and the second engine ECU is 11-engine electronics.

By the way, that is a hell of a rpm (6,660) to save the fault for the O2s in the second engine ECU.

carbon clean was just done, but in the shops defense I was getting the epc light intermittently before they did it. you would think that if they were broken they would have mentioned it to me. I also never had an o2 code before the jhm exhaust was installed.

how does one check the flaps? and why is 6600 such a high rpm?

When someone installs a new exhaust it is possible to kill an oxygen sensor. The increased flow is just too much for old sensors sometimes.

Physically look down at the flaps. If you see something like this then you have a problem:

http://jhmotorsports.com/products/pictures/034/034-B7_RS4_FSI_V8_Intake_Manifold_Flap_Lever_Arms_STOCK_LOCATION_w_text.jpg

It is a hell of a rpm. The devil’s number is 666. It was a joke.

lmfao sorry, right over my head.

ill check the flaps tomorrow and post back. im thinking they may just be stuck, last week I went through enough key cyles to actually get the cel to shut off on its own. when the epc light does come on im down on power up until about 6500 where there is a massive surge and im guessing thats the flaps popping open.

Your getting the tag team. Jimmy as per usual is the man to listen to. When you put on a new exhaust the wires can be damaged in the 02 removal. And when your exhaust has more flow you can expect that the extra flow will finnish off whats left of an already old 02

can I not just remove the intake flaps all together? if so will this cause a never ending fault?

Justin, I didn’t even think about damaging the O2 sensor wiring when installing exhausts. Any way that we can help out other members is a good thing.

You actually want the flaps inside the intake manifold because they help with directing the air for low end torque.

so after making sure they are not broken whats the next thing I should be looking for?

also will I get raped at the dealership if I want to just pick up the o2 sensors tomorrow? is it worth the wait to order from ecs or someone?

If the flap arms are not broken then you want to check the vacuum lines to the intake manifold flaps.

I would order the oxygen sensors from JHM, GAP, or ECStuning. Usually the dealership list/parts counter price is still a lot higher than the online places.

badtoyz, a few of us Ontarians use Neil Brands @ Owasco Audi - give him a call, he does a bit of a discount (just say you’re an AZ user) and has reasonable shipping rates. Super easy guy to work with.

thanx guys.

so both flaps move freely no problem. I pulled a vac line just on top of the tee and blew into it and can hear it losing air somewhere south of it so I guess some more disassembly and just hunt down the leak.

contact Neill Brands at Owasco Audi and tell him you need the o2 sensors and that you want the insider’s deal (audizine price)

he is a good guy and will give you a good idea of a decent price from a dealer…and if it makes sense to wait for the part from America.

he will ship them to you as well.

damn: bango beat me to it

Crosby vw wants 276 for 1 and 317 for the other. I will just order them and wait.

question. is there a Bentley manual or anything for our car? and is the only ay to get the front of the motor by taking off the entire bumper? im trying to follow the vac lines and I want the piece with the hood latch out of my way but seems its connected to everything.

in the picture posted it looks like they were able to gain access without removing the entire front clip. the weather stripping is still there. anyone at all have any tips how to do this? I searched for any kind of repair manual with no luck. I did find bumper removal diys but I didn’t want to take the entire thing off until I have a second vehicle and can keep it off for the winter.

I have this Bentley software and it has the information for the RS4s. My older computer has Windows 7 so I had to download a program to view software designed for older Windows programs. http://www.bentleypublishers.com/audi/repair-information/audi-a4-s4-repair-manual-2002-2008-b6-b7-ebahn.html

To get any real room for the front of the engine you have to pull the bumper and loosen the core support. In the picture I posted it looks like the intake manifold is unbolted and he is holding it up on the left front corner. You should be able to stick a mirror down there and get a better look that way.

If you can post a picture of what line your trying to track I’d think that’ll help others help you track it down.
