JHM car won by a boatload. Was really surprising how little difference full exhaust + GIAC tune made to the Nogaro car. It was basically like a stock S4.

JHM B7 won the first two pulls due to miscues by the B5…although 1st gear pulls in the B7 are pretty solid while the B5 waits for boost. The third was very close till 4th where the B5 started to pull strong.

Tonight a friend of mine and I went to our private racetrack and did a pull from 40-120. He’s a B8 S4 MT6 without ADS or SD or any of the other heavy stuff that weighs the B8 down. He’s a good driver, and my car is a bone stock B7 RS4. I pulled half a car on him early…and from about 50 to 120 it was the most dead even race I’ve ever been in. We both nailed all of our shifts.

I would not have guessed a B8 would beat a B7 S4 with those mods are keep even with an RS4, that’s impressive.

Yep. B8s move out pretty impressively.

my s4 vs my close buddys E46 M3… Neither one of us could pull on the other. We did two pulls, 10 to 90 mph. Besides our shift points, our cars never moved from being neck and neck to whole way

it’s a big difference between the DSG and MT6 cars. I raced a DSG B8 S4 last summer when I was 2.5 catless downpipes (basically RS4 fast) and beat him by about 1.5 car lengths each time. The manual cars with a good driver are very quick. They don’t seem to show up on the quarter mile list as well because so many people have a tough time launching effectively and can’t shift for shit.

But the cars are awesome. It really makes sense…the B7 S4 if stock would get killed by the B8…but that’s how its supposed to be. The B5 S4 gets absolutely murdered stock for stock when its up against a B6 S4.

When you get the JHM tune you should have a rematch and see what happens. Record it for us and I’ll take back all those nasty things I said about you… :wink:

that’s just about right. In fact I’d say he’s a shit shifter. Am I right? The E46 M3 had a good step on the B6/7 S4 stock for stock. Your mods should help a little, but your ECU is hurting you because it’s not really ‘trained’ to take advantage of your modifications. A JHM tune would be a lot better. The ECU can adapt, but the stock parameters inhibit how much they can take advantage, and your throttle etc are all fucked up in stock.

With a JHM tune, you should throw about 2-3 car lenghts on him.

by the way, this thread needs more videos. Stories are cool and all, but video is what matters.

Agree we need more vids on this thread, but unfortunately I can’t help with that one for this story…didn’t have a camera or a passenger with one for my latest run.

In any case, I recently ran against a buddies 07 Dinan Stg-2 335 with a Corsa axle back exhaust. We ran from 65 to about 110-115 and he had me by about 2 car lengths when we shut it down. However, we did a verbal 1-2-3 start over the cell phone since we had our windows up. With the slight delay in call processing, he definitely got a small jump on me AND he was calling the start. So, I would venture to say that I did ok, considering I am still limited by my crappy 2.25 cat-back. I’m going to remedy that next week though. And after that, some Texturk catless DP’s. Once all that’s done, I’ll re-run him, get a vid and then post it to this thread as an update.

It still shocks me that more people haven’t seen this video…I posted it on quattrofail in a B7 RS4 argument thread with a bunch of B5 guys trolling the b7. One guy said something but nobody else mentioned it…I guess they don’t know what to do when confronted with facts.

One guy did say that S/C RS4 wouldn’t have a chance against a “well sorted” stage III B5. Or something close to this, I’m too lazy to log on to QW right now.

To him I say this - in the history of the B5 S4, only one B5 on pump gas, full interior (as the RS4 ran) has ever run a faster quarter mile than that RS4 did. One. Of the hundreds, if not thousands, of B5 S4 passes that we have seen/heard of/read about, only 1 was faster in full street trim.

How he figures any old ‘well sorted’ stage III would walk it is beyond me. You just saw a well sorted stage III with meth and a literally $10,000 modlist get absolutely hooned by the RS4.

I just don’t think people know how rare it is for a stage III B5 S4 to actually run as well as it dynos. People see that car A dyno’d XXXwhp and ran 11.7…and my car also makes XXXwhp, therefore my car is an 11.7 car. It’s so fucking funny.

thats really good for piggies and a 2.25" cat-back. if you get a full 2.5" dp back you should even up if not edge him out. add and intake manifold and its over

unfortunately a more aggressive tune than Dinan (weaksauce) will see the 335 gain it all back. Cheap too…software for those cars is $500-700.

They still are not as fast as people make them out to be. I’ve done quite a few JB’s at the shop and even raced a friends JB4 Z4 3.5sdrive we did and absolutely shit on him. My gti even nips at their butts. Most of the crazy 1/4 times are on nitrous and race gas. If they went over 117, they were on nitrous regardless what they say

yeah, they typically love race gas and typically underperform the perceived standard. They have that B5 condition.
