Vs.

Nope he never leaves his cars alone. It’s gonna be a beast. My plan for now is full 2.5, IM and JHM juice. I think with that, depending on what he does, I should be good to go.

good stuff

the fastest pump gas B8 S4s get into the low 12s (12.2-12.3) so a JHM car on nitrous should get down there pretty comfortably. That’ll be cool to watch you two battle it out. Get some vids (in Mexico of course)

I disagree…

Anyway… This was posted yesterday… pretty impressive for tune only, if true… Not sure of the mods on the 335 or M3…

Wow, those B8s are surprisingly quick…
problem is I’ve raced both DSG and manual cars. You haven’t

Serious…the manuals pull harder. The DSG cars shift better. The results get washed out with most drivers, but a good driver in a manual should be able to beat a DSG car (mod for mod) every time.

In any event…post that vid in the B8 S4 GIAC thread…this is the B6/7 S4/RS4 vs. thread lol
LOL! Whoops… sorry about that… you mentioned the B8 6-speed v dsg and I didn’t even think about it…

Anyway, DSG is the better/faster tranny… It’s been proven… The top times are DSG cars, why? Better gear ratios and faster shifts make up for the slightly lower redline and what should be better ability to launch… The stock clutch is weak so I’ll give the 6speed that and will see how they do once more guys with aftermarket clutches go to the strip… Do you honestly think they will cut 1.6x 60’s?

Now if you are talking roll racing then the DSG driver better know how to drive the car otherwise they will be toast… I can go from a roll but I ned to start in manual, go WOT and shift to auto… I have it down pretty well… My races with a manual car would look nothing like the APR vid… LOL

Now again, my apologies for the threadjack, carry on! LOL

well…this is the vs thread and everyone is talking about roll racing

as for your amazing 60 foot times, you’re the only guy in the word cutting those times (by a full tenth on an automatic, so that’s kinda weird), while the other quick cars have cut 1.73-1.75 times. That’s a good launch for a MT6 car, so if you finally get some guys able to launch their cars well, you’ll see low 1.7s from the MT guys, and probably 1.6. Only about 3 manual cars have really run at the strip more than 3-4 passes, while you and 81bear have 100 and 40 passes respectively. So I don’t think it makes sense to make sweeping statements based on pretty limited info from the manual cars.

In any event, 60 foot times a) mean nothing in a roll race and b) were addressed by me above explaining some of the DSG cars doing well at the strip (better consistent launches and shifting make up for the cars being slightly slower).

Anyway, last time I checked the fastest stock time (by far) is a manual car who had a ‘decent’ but not great 60’ time (1.846, indicating he left a little on the table and could have been even faster than the 12.69 that he ran). Since there are about 3 DSG cars for every 1 manual car, it’s going to be tough to make comparisons until there’s a ton of manual car data.

Again though…I’ve raced 2 DSG cars and 2 MT6 cars, and the MT6 cars are just flat faster in gear…they pull harder. With a good driver, they have the edge. No doubt about it. Here’s the only real comparison race on video we have of MT vs. DSG…and the MT wins every time. Having a good driver in the manual car allows it to shine.

Haha! “Speed Warning” after when 120mph is reached and the “Please refuel” at the very end was quite funny

Yeah don’t want to make it just about my car… My 60’s come from knowing how to stage, maximize grip via tire pressure adjustments based on temp and track temp, consistent proper launch technique and weight(low fuel, wheels tires, no spare/tools)… Practice and data analysis go along way…

I agree not a big enough sample and even said wait until 6-speed folks with a clutch upgrade go and see what they do… I guess I just don’t take your few races as the bible either since I have driven both cars and feel a properly functioning DSG wins…

As for the stock record that was -400 DA… I raced my car in July stock and on a corrected time basis it is within less than a tenth of his time… car had under 1,00 miles as well… In this case I think he had awesome conditions and knows how to drive so he ran some awesome times… Again, sample size is key like we both mentioned…

Roll race is much more of a challenge for the DSG car but if the tranny works as it should and the driver knows how to drive it then it will be very close with the dsg having a slight edge… The APR video is laughable as Brendon just got his car and clearly didn’t understand how to shift it… Watch the run at 1:30 mark… that is how they all should be and it was very close…

That is impressive for sure (if it’s tune only). The only weird thing is, I was under the impression that at highway speeds +, the 335 with tune (maybe that’s a shit tune, I’d never heard of it) will pull on the M3 or at minimum stay up with one. The M3 has the gearing advantage down low and LSD, but once the 335 turbo’s are in full boost with a good tune, I was thinking the advantage was flipped. Either way, that S4 is running pretty good against the M3.
I don’t think 2.25 to 2.5 is going to ‘feel’ like much…it will just work better. It’s a weird thing. There’s not some rush of power that you’ve magically unlocked…it just creates a better overall curve. Subtle but effective.
Saki…should have bet you a Coke my man. Holy Hell what a difference the 2.5 X-pipe cat back makes. I feel stupid for waiting this long to change out my crappy Milltek. The car now pulls so much smoother and feels noticeably stronger up top which makes sense since I’m sure it’s breathing a lot better now. Sounds even better too. I’ll be making a new vid soon and I’ll get it to vdubjetta02 so he can post it up on the exhaust compilation thread if he wants.

Also of note…the guys at the exhaust shop were commenting on how touchy the throttle is when they pulled it into the bay…love it.

really huh? awesome.

what’d you get done? I must have missed it…just remember this
I am still limited by my crappy 2.25 cat-back. I’m going to remedy that next week though. And after that, some Texturk catless DP’s. Once all that’s done, I’ll re-run him, get a vid and then post it to this thread as an update.
I don’t think you missed anything. It’s really a two stage up-grade process that I have going.

The first part was to swap out the 2.25 h-pipe CB for a custom 2.5 x-pipe CB. Rather than buy a new 2.5 CB (cheapest around that I know of is the Magnaflow), I just had an exhaust shop custom build me a new cat-back. The main reason I wanted to do it this way was for the cost benefit, but also because I wanted to retain my 14851’s. I love the way they sound and I know they’re a pretty good design. As stated, just this upgrade made a very noticeable improvement up top.

The second part will be to swap out my OEM piggies and go to the Trexturk DP’s. I said I would re-run my 335 buddy once I got both done as you’ve noted, BUT, because it feels so much stronger, I think I’ll try now, then again once the DP’s are on. This way I can gauge the improvement. Hopefully I’ll have the DP’s before he jumps over to the B8 S4.

^pics?

Unfortunately they pulled it off the rack before I had a chance to shoot any pics. I will post some up when I get a chance to get under the car.

Here’s a snipit of a vid I just scrapped together from today though. It sounds similar to the old set up, just smoother and a bit louder I think. There was WAY too much traffic on this road today due to the time of day so I only got one pass. The camera work was done by my 13 year old son, and you can hear him snickering at the end of the video. I guess he thinks it’s pretty cool too.

http://youtu.be/qiauHAf_OJ4

sounds good. Still sounds magnaflowish. Mission: accomplished.

I agree, it’s sounds good for sure.

^^X3 Sounds good man.

Thanks guys. With the Trexturk DP’s it will sound freakin glorious.

I loved how my FI catback sounded pre-DP’s.

Absolutely glorious with DP’s.
