Yeah don’t want to make it just about my car… My 60’s come from knowing how to stage, maximize grip via tire pressure adjustments based on temp and track temp, consistent proper launch technique and weight(low fuel, wheels tires, no spare/tools)… Practice and data analysis go along way…

I agree not a big enough sample and even said wait until 6-speed folks with a clutch upgrade go and see what they do… I guess I just don’t take your few races as the bible either since I have driven both cars and feel a properly functioning DSG wins…

As for the stock record that was -400 DA… I raced my car in July stock and on a corrected time basis it is within less than a tenth of his time… car had under 1,00 miles as well… In this case I think he had awesome conditions and knows how to drive so he ran some awesome times… Again, sample size is key like we both mentioned…

Roll race is much more of a challenge for the DSG car but if the tranny works as it should and the driver knows how to drive it then it will be very close with the dsg having a slight edge… The APR video is laughable as Brendon just got his car and clearly didn’t understand how to shift it… Watch the run at 1:30 mark… that is how they all should be and it was very close…

Saki…should have bet you a Coke my man. Holy Hell what a difference the 2.5 X-pipe cat back makes. I feel stupid for waiting this long to change out my crappy Milltek. The car now pulls so much smoother and feels noticeably stronger up top which makes sense since I’m sure it’s breathing a lot better now. Sounds even better too. I’ll be making a new vid soon and I’ll get it to vdubjetta02 so he can post it up on the exhaust compilation thread if he wants.

Also of note…the guys at the exhaust shop were commenting on how touchy the throttle is when they pulled it into the bay…love it.

I don’t think you missed anything. It’s really a two stage up-grade process that I have going.

The first part was to swap out the 2.25 h-pipe CB for a custom 2.5 x-pipe CB. Rather than buy a new 2.5 CB (cheapest around that I know of is the Magnaflow), I just had an exhaust shop custom build me a new cat-back. The main reason I wanted to do it this way was for the cost benefit, but also because I wanted to retain my 14851’s. I love the way they sound and I know they’re a pretty good design. As stated, just this upgrade made a very noticeable improvement up top.

The second part will be to swap out my OEM piggies and go to the Trexturk DP’s. I said I would re-run my 335 buddy once I got both done as you’ve noted, BUT, because it feels so much stronger, I think I’ll try now, then again once the DP’s are on. This way I can gauge the improvement. Hopefully I’ll have the DP’s before he jumps over to the B8 S4.

Unfortunately they pulled it off the rack before I had a chance to shoot any pics. I will post some up when I get a chance to get under the car.

Here’s a snipit of a vid I just scrapped together from today though. It sounds similar to the old set up, just smoother and a bit louder I think. There was WAY too much traffic on this road today due to the time of day so I only got one pass. The camera work was done by my 13 year old son, and you can hear him snickering at the end of the video. I guess he thinks it’s pretty cool too.

K…did a few pulls today (impromptu so no vid again unfortunately) with a buddy of mine. He’s got a B6 S4 TIP, piggies, Magnaflow CB and stock ECU. I’m MT6, piggies, 2.5 CB and JHM tune. Every pull, I put about a car on him and I think that would have widened if we had more space to run since I seem to pulling up top real well. BUT, that’s not as much as I thought it would be. His car seemed really strong actually.

I have no idea how a TIP is vs an MT6, but it seemed like he was able to shift much quicker, (yes I know a JHM shifter would help) AND not sure how the TIPS are geared differently if at all. Is there much of a weight advantage with an MT6?

Is that about right for the difference in mods (really just the tune)? Would love some feedback.

The tips are always going to be the faster shifters. That makes up for the extra weight. Other than that, your mods are similar but you have a JHM tune, that’s where the length comes in. Also remember that on a stock tune car, in 1st and 2nd especially, the ecu has a torque limited applied. That’s the main thing in the JHM tune that makes them faster. Race him from a 1st gear roll, by the time you are to 100, you’ll have a good 3 lengths on him

fact is a tip is always going to shift flawlessly, while a manual car is hit or miss. Getting back on the throttle on time…nailing the gear…accidentally feathering the clutch a touch. All of these things will work against you.

With that being said in my manual B7 I raced a tip with piggies and a 2.5" catback and I fucking slaughtered him so just wondering why you aren’t doing the same…

We need more info. Speed/gear started in? Speed gear ended in? What RPM are you shifting at (should be 6500, and no more or you’ll be slow)

Yeah I feel like I should have done much better and therefore the post… wouldn’t have even bothered if I walked him badly since I would have expected it. I’ll admit, my driving/shifting skills today were sub par for sure, but maybe this will help explain (sorta does for me right now when I think back about what happened). From a dig is where I got him best…BUT, I didn’t use LA (afraid of frying my stock clutch) although I’m reading that it’s probably not that bad for it. Even worse though, I slipped it through 1st (still pulled even) pulled on him in 2nd and then fuckin missed 3rd. If I hadn’t done that, it was probably going to turn into 2 cars at least. No freakin clue how fast we were going since the traffic in Mexico today was a little rough. So from a dig I would say I did damn well considering my retarded driving and to your point, hit or miss. Today I clearly fell on the miss side.

As for the rolls, start from 2nd (really no idea what speed) and we seemed pretty even, I was about a nose in front of him, all shifts as close to 6500 as I can remember, proly hit 6800 max a few times, didn’t miss any shifts and I would slowly start to pull till about 90-100, (guessing again) but certainly not at the rate I would have expected.

We ran from a roll at least 3-4 times, all from about the same start/end speeds with the same result and this is where I was feeling a little disappointed.

I am going to see if he’ll run me again real soon, I’ll make sure to note the speeds etc and see how it goes. I’ll try to grab a vid as well.
