seriously if you think they fixed it without telling you or approval. Tell them to forget the situation and that you dont want it fixed. Just try to get your car out of there.
Sucks man hate to see this hapoen. The sting comes from th3 fact that blower tune or not the water pump fails…thats hard to take…joe is right at gm if you brought a vet in for warranty work without mods no one jumped to wrok on it…if you had mods everyone wanted to work on it…this way they could enjoy the test drive
after much back and forth with the dealership and audi warranty was approved on thursday morning.
Car was picked up and driven thursday evening through saturday evening and the when on the way to a friends place about 40km away an error message came up for the transmission. Having had the mechatronics fail before on both a mk5 and this car I knew the signs however it’s nice that audi warns you when it goes to hell. Damn things are dangerous when they go into their “safe mode”.
Car was flat decked to the dealer the next morning (sunday) and I am waiting for a call from them. Out of a car again. : Mechatronics was replaced under a year ago once already. :-\
I found it interesting that Audi RS6/7 and S8 all decided NOT to use this DSG and instead used a torque converter automatic…and that Corvette’s engineers recently said that they looked at the dual clutch transmission offerings out there and “nothing could handle the torque of the C7 cars” so they stuck with a torque converter automatic.
Mechatronics - I’d be surprised if they don’t cover it. It doesn’t see any direct motor load, it’s just a module of solenoids and sensors. It’s possible there are as many people who had their mechatronics unit changed compared water pump/thermostat failure people.
At least to me, it’s not the “automatic” part that’s disappointing, but the torque converter part. It’s totally available with the clutch pack, but it seems only Benz is using it, also proving that torque capacity isn’t the issue.
If it was replaced under a year or 12K miles ago then it is still covered under the parts warranty. Usually that is less strict than the factory limited 4 years/50K mile or CPO warranties.
well they’re dicking around apparently the software on the mechatronics isn’t the proper revision so they want to charge me to update that before they will look at the root of the problem. I think this is more related to the SA than audi warranty itself. Either way we shall see. IF i had a TCU flash I could see why they would be going down this road but of course there is nothing of that sort even released. I think audi is going a tad overboard on this.
With that said, the dealership has essentially all but stopped selling stasis due to the headaches regarding the TD1 thing. Apparently there is zero clear directive regarding anything to do with this and there are a lot of pissed off customers. One car had warranty approved and mid way through the repair was flagged and then denied of course after much fighting they covered it.
The other thing that is being talked about is that none of the customers who leased stasis cars were ever informed that when they return these cars it’s going to result in problems/charges/fines. I think audi and stasis are going to have a shit storm on their hands in the very near future. Also if stasis loses the dealer support they are finished.
That’s very interesting. I always wondered about these Stasis tie-ups - it never seemed quite 100% legitimate to me.
I guess Stasis has to foot the bill if a car gets the TD1 flag. What I don’t see is how a small company that is basically drop ship based will be able to afford the claims on more than (complete guess) a dozen cars with major drivetrain problems.
I know there’s a local VW dealer that used to be an APR dealer. If you bought, say, a GTI from them, got a tune and something broke, they kind of got it covered. I wonder if they stopped selling APR stuff when the TD1 show came to town…
Well audi’s directive is to send them on a wild goose chase to find the problem.
First thing was to reflash the TCU (and some how I am on the hook for this)
Now they want to drop the pan and look for shavings and if that yields nothing, have them check the yaw and something else of the internals (i am not up to speed on all the parts). It seems like they are looking at everything but the problem that presented the same issue the last time they covered this less than a year ago.
I might have missed it, but which dealership are you using? I know a couple other local guys have been having a heck of a time with certain dealerships.

And if that’s so how is my “chip” responsible for the Mechatronics/transmission malfunction?!

how much did the mechatronic unit replacement cost you?
that’s what I was told last time, they still haven’t “figured out” if its mechatronics failure yet, still tooling around in an a3 that literally sounds like its going to explode.
Car has been there for 3 of the last 4 weeks! FUN FUN!
