Well. My car is almost ready.

In fact, it should be ready for break-in next week. Basically all that’s left is installing the exhaust and methanol injection system - which will be turned off until the engine and clutch are broken in. I contacted JHM about the tune last night - and am waiting to find out how to proceed. I can surely download/upload the high performance tune myself from that point on. Velocity Factor took a long time to get started but once they got into the groove, they worked quickly. I have a good feeling about my build. I think they did good.

Ultimately, I’m hoping to have 600 horsepower at the crank when all is said and done. I still have some upper engine work to do - but I’ll get there. I’d also like to have a rebuilt transmission installed as it’s got 105,000 miles on it.

Am I going to run the car at Palm Beach International Raceway? Yes. Just give me some time. As mentioned elsewhere, I’m a luxury car kind of guy. My only experience with a manual transmission was driving this car home 1300 miles - and that was over six months ago. I’m going to need some time to get the hang of it enough to drag race but it won’t take long. I’m not embarrassed about getting crappy numbers at the track - as long as they improve over time. I’ll have somebody who can actually race a manual give it a shot before I do. I’m going to GUESS this will happen some time in November - with somebody I trust to drive my car.

she looks good. Getting excited for you.

Thank you! I sent you an email last night. Let me know if you didn’t get it. We’re just about ready to get her tuned to drive out of the shop for engine/clutch break-in.

One more quick pic - this was from a couple of weeks ago.

The picture you just posted loos like it was about to just get the motor put back in.

Yup, that one was from a week or two ago.

Sweet!!! Looks good’

And yes I’ll put it down 1/4 mile! And I’ll give you some pointers.

Glad to see this has made some progress. Good luck with the break-in, do it right!

zero couldn’t be in better hands

Do JHM tuned b5 cars get launch assist?

They get the launch assist I created a long time ago (pre anyone else having this option). My issue now is There is a launch assist that has been recycled from another source that some people use. Due to that being on the market I think I might just leave it out. As I don’t want to be making the argument that this was something I had well before other people started using the recycled version.

In all reality B5 cars need to be more tempered when you launch them. The larger N/A motors have a better set pattern that you can tune for and get repeatable results. The B5s benefit from having more room to play with the launch.

Finally… Break-in begins on Saturday…

Well, a couple of I’s needed to be dotted and T’s needed to be crossed - so I’ll be picking up the car on Thursday. I’ll probably be driving the car for 1000-1500 miles for a complete break-in and then will get everything else in place shortly afterwards.

The car drives as smooth as creamy vagina…

Congrats. Vids? (of the car, not a creamy vag)

10 seconds smooth?

None yet. I’ll have the car home tomorrow. What kind of video do you want?

Yeah.

I like vodka.

75 miles on the new engine and clutch (and everything else) so far… 1425 to go… Or at least 1000… Next steps:

  • Devil’s Own Methanol Injection Kit with 2 1/2 gallon tank
  • 034 Intake with 90mm MAF Housing
  • 630cc Bosch EB14 Injectors
  • 034 Coil Pack Conversion Kit
  • Wide-band O2 Sensor
  • 340lph fuel pump kit
  • Fuel Pump Regulator
  • Manual In-Car Boost Controller
  • JHM Tune
  • 034 Motorsport Carbon Fiber Y-Pipe with RS4 Inlet Hoses

I think I should get new transmission and differential fluid as well. Anyway, I’m hoping to have the above stuff done the week of Thanksgiving. After that, I’ll be taking the car to the local track to see what it can do.

Why would you wait until after to do all of that stuff? Just for break in?

Why get a wide-band and not just log with VCDS?

and lastly why a manual boost controller?

I’m not being a smartass, these are really questions and I’m wondering if there are legitimate reasons for your choices and I’m excited to see you get to the track!
