I agree the 6MT clutch is horrible and add of now no idea how much the dsg will handle. For all we know the stage 2 might be the most power the block/transmission can handle and we won’t see big power until these have been out for a couple more years and drop into the 20k price point

I’m sure most will agree that until a tuning solution that allows customization comes around we will be handicapped by what the software companies want to bring to market in parts

Utilizing your mythical 400% markup for APR/GIAC tune, working backwards that gives a variable cost for a stage 1 tune ~$312.25

Using your hypothetical markup as the index, I calculate Epic Tuning Group’s stage 1 tune @~172% markup.

If we are to apply the same logic, ETG is only less guilty of excessive profiteering.

Now is APR/GIAC’s tune worth 47% more than ETG’s tune? The market says yes (sales).

Why? Because they have a higher probability of answering our emails and being in business 120 days from now.

Regarding the high price on the tunes…when I almost bought an MK6 GTI, I planned on getting APR tuned because of their reputation, and I can call anytime and get answers to questions. Sure, at the time the Unitronic cars were faster, but their reputation is shady at best when it comes to reliability. Would an email tune work for my Cobra? Sure, and it would only cost $200. But I paid $500 to have one of the best tuners in the country personally tune it and I might have made less power but the car drives great, and I could probably email him a question right now and have an answer by tomorrow.

We make a butt load on the pulley when you take out the software, but it doesn’t do squat without software.

The pulley puller tools markup is lower then most products iirc. It’s mostly purchased by dealers anyways.
