what ever happened to the RS6 4.2 TT transplant into B7 RS4 in New England area?

It was one of the PES supercharged RS4 guys…I don’t know what happened but suddenly he was putting an RS6 (C5) 4.2 V8 TT into his B7 RS4 body. Did his 4.2 FSI get eaten by the PES monster? ruh roh.

Anyway, the build was supposed to be incredible…forged and fully built…massive turbos…massive goals…massive press (spread in EuroTuner or something)…and then it fizzled out.

What happened?

In other news, is this legit? Here’s a Russian RS4 claiming it has an RS6 engine in it. I’ll assume C5 RS6 lol.

Not sure if this is the same car, but it’s actually an A4 with that swap?

And heres a B5 RS4 with that swap - I love the way this thing looks…

it’s neither of those…guy used to be on the forums…LIVING WEAPON or something?

the B5 is nuts. Is that thing running yet? I haven’t seen any interesting stuff with it.

Found this video of it. Not much else out there it looks like.

yeah, bet they’re pulling their hair out tuning it etc.

So nobody has info on living weapon’s build?

they somewhat embarrassingly promised regular updates…then nothing for a few months…then a blip…then nothing.

RS4/RS6 Swap

Last month we introduced this Frankenstein creation being built by Advanced Technologies, HT Motorsport and EFI Express. Customer Bryan Whitmore has asked them to swap an RS6 motor into his ’07 Audi RS4 and then tweak the turbos to nudge 840hp at the crank, 700hp to the wheels.

To achieve this, the motor is now fully built with JE pistons, IE rods and ARP hardware. They have selected dual-scroll EFR turbos and are awaiting their delivery as we write. The custom dual-plenum inlet manifolds are also due in the next week.

The V8 engine’s oil system is a custom dry sump with all the tanks and plumbing hidden under the custom trunk floor. What’s more, the alternator and A/C unit have been mounted in the vee between the cylinder heads to make room for the turbos, and an electric power steering system has been fitted.

The specification of the motor has evolved since last month because the RS4 headlights are apparently huge, confounding their original plans for mounting the turbos. It meant they had to mount the Borg Warner turbos low at the front. This in turn necessitated the dry sump and meant they had to push the block back and down as far as possible to gain room up front for the radiator and intercoolers. In the meantime, the built 01E transmission has received a sequential shift mechanism, lightweight flywheel and uprated clutch to deal with the torque from the motor. [/b]

RS4/RS6

Continuing our coverage of this crazy 700hp RS6 engine swap into a RS4, HT-Motorsport has been moving the project along quickly. The equal-length, phase-matched exhaust runners, for example, were designed in 3D CAD to ensure quick spooling for the T4 turbos. In fact, Borg Warner supplied development hot-side turbo housings for test fitting to help confirm the design of the downpipes and turbo manifolds.

After they finish the fabrication of the downpipes and manifolds, the new parts will go through a heat treatment to remove residual stress during the welding process before ceramic coating.

The sequential shifter on the Audi 01E manual transmission required significant tunnel work, including modification of the heater housing. With shifter itself is being fabricated to look stock but will also have a quick-change feature to allow it to be swapped out for a longer version for races.

weird that they’re talking about getting dyno’d ‘before there’s snow on the ground’. Is this update from like November and they forgot to post it? Or are they talking about another year for the build? Seems like the FEB update was written befor ethe SEP update because the exhaust was supposedly all welded up in Sept…but they’re working with only one turbo in Feb. Must have been from the fall but they didn’t get around to publishing it.

RS4/RS6
HT-Motorsports’ crazy ongoing RS6 engine swap into a B7 Audi RS4 has seen its share of fabricated parts. For example, the turbo manifolds received 20 hours of TIG welding, while the new intake manifolds hold 16 injectors, and a CAD-designed dry sump seals the block.

After installing a 10-gallon fuel cell in the trunk, the team must plan the route for the fuel system components. They can then feed the heads that are currently undergoing final tweaks at the machine shop and should be ready for installation along with the engine later this month.

Pushing on, the frame horns, core supports and turbo shields are now stainless steel, and are supporting a test block to check clearance. This paid off following the arrival of one of the two Borg Warner turbos, which allowed the crew to start fabricating the exhaust.

The entire team is working to dial-in the project before the Northeastern winter sets in, and are aiming to have the engine dynoed before there’s snow on the ground.

same car yes

so. . . . did they just opt to remove the front frame rails/core support? I don’t get how that will work/be safe/hold the front radiator or anything else. . .

Also, kinda funny seeing the alternator being top mount like that. I’m sure it’s nice to give more options for turbo plumbing and all, but kidna funny to pop the hood, see all this awesomeness, and then have an alternator sticking out from under the intake manifold. You could probably just tell people it’s supercharged instead knowing the intelligence of most people.

I have no idea if this car will ever run.

I think I predicted it would run 12.2 @ 115 or something. We’ll see.

So they’re going to go through all this work only to get beat by a RS4 with a supercharger kit? Dumb

lol, you’re always so pessimistic about builds. I will give you, most never see the light of day, or at least not the glorious light they’ve claimed to be built to. But even in 95% stock form, the C5 RS6 was a pretty legit car. It would seem that with better manifolds/turbos/exhuast it would stand to be pretty stout car.

But I know what you’re really thinking, the tuning. And on that note I agree. I have no idea what it takes to tune the old RS6, but it might share some points with the B5 S4 rather than the complexity of the B7 RS4 (possibly single vs dual ecu, etc). I know Count has mentioned the difference in B6 vs B7 ecu, so I’d guess it being an older setup might make it more simplified.

that was my guess…not theirs

They’re trying to run 10.5 @ 135

He ruined two awesome cars

^x2. I was reading the mods and that is exactly what I thought.

The c5 rs6 is very similar to the b5 s4 in regards to tuning.

Why don’t we all own a C5 RS6? Pretty impressive engine (lots of bonus work by Cosworth), great looking car, nice interior.

If you could get an RNSe in there (I think you can pretty easily) and put aside $5,000 for the bi-annual engine-pull/timing belt jobs, it’s a fantastic option. You can get a decent one for $25,000-30,000.

450/400 stock…probably 500/500 (crank) with a tune + piggies. That’s a car I really think we need to know more about…but for whatever reason, none of ‘us’ (enthusiast nerds) own any. Why is that? I looked at them this past fall when I was exiting my B7 S4, but the only ones I could find had 120,000 kms or more on them. Searching out a low mileage C5 Rs6 is tough. They appear to be just awesome cars that people bought as daily drivers and put normal miles on them (despite the $100,000 price tag lol).

What’s the big deal?

no manual kills it for a lot of people though, and the swap does not appear as straightforward as the normal 4.2 manual swaps (steveken is/has done one, not sure how the tuning worked out)

the power is absurd though, look at 10secS4’s RS6, wasnt that 11’s with a trans tune/tune/piggies?

yeah, tune piggies probably race gas. High 11s at 116-117. Basically B8 S4 maxed out performance…or stock motor B6/7 S4 maxed out performance. Or APR RS4 performance. Not bad for a $25,000 car with $600 in modifications lol.

What do they weigh? My impression is that they weigh 4200 lbs but it’s probably much lighter. I was surprised how light your C5 A6 4.2 was.

but mind the huge brakes, drc, bigger wheels, bigger sway bars, turbo heft… its got the B7 RS4 weight disadvantage (better/bigger stuff weighs more), minus the rs4 advantages (aluminum hood, all V8 C5s have Al hoods/ front fenders), plus a massive trans with a massive fluid cpacity and tc, plus the turbos, charge pipes and intercoolers.

I’d guess 4200 on the low end, more like 4500

The prices have come down considerably. http://motors.shop.ebay.com/sch/Cars-Trucks-/6001/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=rs6

I’d only get one as a toy and if I had a proper shop so I could pull the engine and service it myself. Sick cars though.
